White vinyl in PVC sleeve. Limited edition 500 copies. "Miles Davis' second great quintet, featuring Wayne Shorter on tenor, Herbie Hancock (age 25) on piano, Ron Carter on bass, and Tony Williams on drums, is the last of Miles' true acoustic jazz bands. Formed in 1964, the legendary quintet can be heard playing at Chicago's Plugged Nickel jazz club on 22 December 1965, one of their earliest recordings. For these performances, Miles played almost no material from their studio albums, focusing instead on Miles' favorite jazz standards. However, it is precisely because he is playing the standards that listeners are able to hear just how groundbreaking this quintet was at the time. The music found here was so pioneering and influential that it still sounds new after over four decades."

"Miles Davis Live at the Plugged Nickel, now available for the first time in a deluxe five LP box set with liner notes. This box represents the most complete version available on vinyl of the Miles Davis Quintet's legendary Plugged Nickel performance. Twenty tracks in all with almost four hours of music taken from the seven sets Davis played during his two-night residency at Chicago's famous Plugged Nickel jazz club. It was also one of the very first recordings Miles made with his now legendary 'second' quintet, featuring Wayne Shorter on tenor, a 25-year-old Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass, and Tony Williams on drums. For these performances, Davis played almost no material from his albums, focusing instead on his favorite standards. However, it is precisely because he is playing standards that listeners are able to hear just how groundbreaking this quintet was at the time. The music found here was so pioneering and influential that it still sounds new after over four decades! Do not miss your chance to own this piece of jazz history on vinyl." "Now for the first time ever on double LP, In Person, Friday Night at the Blackhawk represents a very short-lived and little-known version of the Miles Davis Quintet, recorded live at San Francisco's famed Blackhawk jazz club on 21 April 1961! After losing John Coltrane to his own soon-to-be legendary quartet, Miles Davis tried out a several other tenors before finally managing to bring on Hank Mobley. Mobley, who initially gained notoriety with the Jazz Messengers, was a less aggressive (though not less in any other way) player than Coltrane, bringing an interesting new dynamic to the Quintet. The flawless rhythm section of Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums, had been backing Miles since the days of Kind of Blue and was, by the time of this recording, a well-oiled and lethal machine. This double LP of Friday Night at the Blackhawk, while not technically complete in the sense that no doubles are included, includes at least one version of every song that was played that night, and is by far the most complete version available on vinyl!" 180 gram vinyl.

"After six years spent away from the public eye (1975-1981) due to a long period of illness and addiction, Miles Davis finally returned to music with 1981's The Man With the Horn. And just to prove that he was fully out of retirement, Davis embarked on a tour of Europe in the spring of 1982. It was his first European tour since 1971 and fans came out in droves to see the Prince Of Darkness. By April 26 April 1982 Davis and an all-star band (featuring Bill Evans on sax, Marcus Miller on bass, Mike Stern on guitar, Al Foster on drums and French musician Minu Cinelu on percussions) had made their way down to Rome where they played two sold out sets. The first set, was a forty-six minute medley featuring Davis' own 'Back Seat Betty', Gershwin's 'My Man's Gone Now' from Porgy & Bess, and in a nod to his Italian fans, Giuseppe Verdi's 'Aida.'" "Recorded on the same day as Agharta, Pangaea's two LPs of material are culled from the evening performances at Osaka's Festival Hall. Featuring just two songs, both clocking in at over 40 minutes, Pangaea shows Miles' band really stretching itself to the limit. Live electric jazz-fusion from the undisputed master of the genre." "Dark Magus was recorded at Carnegie Hall in 1974 but went unreleased until 1977, when it was put out in Japan only. As a result, these stunning live recordings have been incredibly hard to find on vinyl, until now. These are some of the heaviest, and headiest, tracks Davis ever cut, and his band is in top form. Absolutely classic and essential electric jazz fusion from the dude that invented the genre." Gatefold sleeve; on 180 gram vinyl.
