"Almost exactly ten years ago, Âme, the duo of Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer, was officially born. The two artists had met a year earlier and began homing in on a style of house that was classically informed yet totally modern, as inspired by jazz, funk and soul as it was by Detroit techno. Âme Live takes stock of everything that's happened since then, connecting the dots between early records on Sonar Kollektiv, later works on Innervisions and still unreleased material. It also serves a much simpler purpose: documenting their exceptional live act. Âme started playing live in 2010, and in doing so devised one of the most idiosyncratic performances in club music today. The new album is made up of the best recordings from the road, reedited in the studio and woven into a continuous mix. For fans, it's a fresh take on Âme's celebrated oeuvre. For everyone else, it's a perfect introduction to one of house music's most imaginative duos."

IV 028EP
|
After exploring technoid territories, Âme are back with a deep house EP. It is very much infiltrated with a Duchamp-esque way of approaching artistic objects: ready-made, self-referencing and perpetuating. So musically, perpetuum mobile (ital. "Moto perpetua" by Niccolò Paganini) elements push forward into mesmerizing loops. The future is nearer than in most contemporary deep house releases. Typically amazing Innervisions die-cut sleeve.

Every Âme 12" is, as always, the result of a work-in-progress. "Setsa" fuses prepared piano from John Cage with some classic house roots, while "Ensor" is the steamroller which comes out of some dark basement techno club in the early '90s. Sadly, The Sound Factory is already gone.

OSTGUT 010EP
|
Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann are Âme. In the spring of 2007, they contributed a 16+ minute epic track to Ostgut's dance soundtrack, Shut Up And Dance! Updated, which is now on vinyl for the first time. With its minimalism in the vein of Philip Glass morphing into a majestic '70s psychedelic killer, it is an outstanding track. The DJ-friendly club edit doesn't leave out any of the original's stupefying magic.

"Âme returns with two new tracks. Two tracks that move away from that clean sound has been penetrating us for the last two years in nearly every production. Bring back the raw -- like Kerri Chandler said last year already. So here u go: Wildpitch I think I luv u!"
