2008 release. Vampisoul offers you David Axelrod's very first UK orchestral performance, live at the Royal Festival Hall in London in . A Grammy award-winning producer for Capitol Records who helmed dozens of great jazz, funk and soul records during the 1960s and '70s (David, McCallum, Lou Rawls, Stan Kenton, The Electric Prunes, Cannonball Adderley...), David Axelrod also forged a distinctive musical style while recording several of the most eccentric albums of the '70s. His music was rediscovered in the '90s, and has been sampled by key hip-hop artists such as Dr.Dre, DJ Shadow, or Lauryn Hill. On this performance, from Dean Rudland's liner notes: "The show opens with what sounds like an Axelrod classic, but is in fact, a re-composition specifically written for the show, the Rolling Stones' 'Paint it Black.' 'How could I come to England and not pay tribute to the Beatles or the Rolling Stones?' explained David. And sure enough, the show's closing moment is dedicated to Lennon and McCartney's 'Norwegian Wood,' sealing the overall unique experience of Axe's evening. In between, for the best part of an hour and a half, we were treated to an incredible selection of David Axelrod's music, mainly taken from his work on the William Blake inspired albums Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience." DVD is NTSC, all region format.

Exact repro vinyl edition. "The third Axelrod album, originally issued by Capitol in 1970. Subtitled 'A Musical Comment On The State Of the Environment,' this features lyrics adapted by Michael T. Axelrod from The Book Of Isaiah, The Old Testament and 'Song Of The Earth Spirit', a Navajo origin legend. A concept album evolving around ecological doom, this features choral-based arrangements, fierce jazz-like structure and a very compelling, very flat-out weird atmosphere."

"First time on CD for one of the rarest albums ever from funky maestro David Axelrod -- the producer known for his work with The Electric Prunes on Reprise, and a string of late '60s classics on Capitol Records! This mid '70s set for Polydor has Axelrod working in a jazz funk mode -- much more electric than before, with heavy keyboards from Crusader Joe Sample, thundering drums from Ndugu Chancler, reeds from Jerome Richardson and Ernie Watts, vibes from Gary Coleman, and a nice undercurrent of strings as well. There's a subtle dose of fusion in the mix, but one that's never too jamming -- and Axelrod always maintains his trademark sense of space and timing -- turning the simplest musical measure into the kind of groove that holds up well into the 21st century. The album's a favorite of sample hounds and crate diggers, and is incredibly hard to find on vinyl."

Exact repro vinyl edition. "First Axelrod solo LP, originally issued by Capitol in 1968. A known jazz and soul producer at that point (Electric Prunes, Nat Adderly, etc.), he combined orchestral production techniques into the realms of psychedelic rock and soundtrackian aura. Sparse production and the habit of inserting long, clean drum breaks assured him coveted sampling status for over a decade now (see DJ Shadow, many others). Song of Innocence is a beautifully-arranged suite in seven parts, inspired by the writings of William Blake. Composed, arranged and produced by David Axelrod."

2010 repress; exact repro including gatefold, originally released on Capitol Records in 1969. One of Axelrod's best and most loved LPs, including classic front and back cover artwork, featuring a shirtless Axelrod as brooding genius ominously overlooking sultry blonde goddess. Musically the album contains some of Axelrod's best trademark complex and moody studio arrangements, this time around based on the poems of William Blake.

"This collection brings together 27 productions by Axelrod, staring way back in 1966, to his own musical creations on Mo Wax records in 2001. Grammy Award winner, Axelrod started his musical career as an A&R Executive and producer at Capitol Records, L.A., and was soon working on productions for the likes of Lou Rawls, Cannonball Adderley, Electric Prunes and many more. His work with these great artists of their time has helped secure his reputation as one of the finest producers of the past 50 years and his distinctly recognizable style has given us numerous great jazz, soul and funk records. This collection brings together 27 Axelrod productions, from his work with others, starting in 1966, to his own musical creations, including those released by Mo Wax in 2001, to celebrate 50 years of music involving David Axelrod."
