It started as an experiment, freestyling in the low-tech glamor of Melbourne's Soundpark studio, no rules, no speaking, no plan. Gemini telepathy wrought wild. Total delirium. The soundtrack to a film Kubrick never made. Guided by Neptune retrograde. Gemini 4 is the project from Hugo Race (Dirtmusic, ex-Bad Seeds) and Michelangelo Russo (The True Spirit). Their electronic take on the blues, John Lee Hooker's World Today, evaporated critics and audiences in 2017, merging the blues master's legacy with a psychedelic and hypnotic atmosphere, expanding the sonic space and shifting towards a more electronic horizon. In Gemini 4, they have reached that horizon, and it has become the space itself in which they experiment beyond limits in a zodiac-flavored brew of instrumental electronica somewhere between soundtrack and chillout.

Originally released on the Kitty-Yo label, Silur was the third "proper" album from Tarwater and to many was the pinnacle of their lengthy recording career. Although in recent years the duo have angled towards more of a "pop" sound, back in 1998 when Silur appeared it genuinely shook up the indie rock world with its fusion of melancholy slow-core, electronic soundscapes and the kind of smoked jazz loops you would more likely have expected to hear on a library record. Basically, with all that electronic knowhow and songwriting expertise this duo set the scene alight with Silur and it's an album that still manages to sound hugely enjoyable decades.

LP version. Hugo's True Spirit deliver a lush, sonic love letter of rock, electronica and dramatic orchestration, based in blues, hypnotic repetition and sonic exhilaration. Michelangelo Russo is a huge part of this atmosphere; his approach to music is that of an artist with a palette of mysterious implements and machinery, but the entire band and production is incredible from start to finish. Starbirth is 48 minutes of mind expanding, mind blowing, heel tapping tunes. Starbirth is international maverick and music icon Hugo Race's 15th album with his band of True Spirits.

Hugo Race (Dirtmusic, Fatalists, ex-Bad Seeds) and Michelangelo Russo (True Spirit), fuse rock, blues, ambient and electronic sounds on their raw, compelling new album 100 Years. In 2017, the duo released John Lee Hooker's World Today, a tribute to the blues legend's delta blues legacy reinvented in a swirling mix of analog grit and deep trance pulses. 100 Years showcases the duo's sonic chemistry against Race's stark songwriting. Inspired by the raw majesty of early blues recordings, the album was recorded in two days in a non-stop live Hugo Race and Michelangelo Russo 100 Years session. Amplified harmonica, open-tuned guitars, smoky vocals and primal foot beat walk listeners through a landscape of dreamlike devastation, a hypnotic wall of sound suspended in time and space celebrating endurance and redemption, hand-made from ancient roots.

Hugo Race and Michelangelo Russo are no strangers to either Hooker or the blues. Hailed as a supreme influence on the music of their band Hugo Race & The True Spirit, here the duo create a full sensory immersion in John Lee Hooker's World Today with devastating singularity of purpose. Recorded in a single, continuous day and night session in Berlin at andereBaustelle studio of Boris Wilsdorf (Einsturzende Neubauten), this is an epic album of sonic sorcery suspended in time and place, looking back through twenty-first century eyes at John Lee Hooker's delta blues legacy in a swirling mix of analogue grit and deep trance pulses. The selection of tracks tells a story in itself; from the runaway twelve-year old boy of the desolate classics "Hobo Blues" and "Country Boy" to the worldly-wise elder Hooker of "The World Today" (originally from Hooker'n Heat) and "The Motor City's Burning" (a cover of Hooker's cover of the MC5 classic), the album traces the arc of a life from pre-modernity to the Now on the 100th anniversary of Hooker's birth. Race and Russo's reimagining of Hooker is simultaneously blues, electronica, avant-garde and ambient, a homage to one of the greats of rock and roll prehistory, delivered with a sting and a twist more relevant than ever to the world today.

The band Tuleje consists of Gosia Zagajewska, Ksawery Wójcinski, and Wojtek Kurek. Their original arrangement of folk music from eastern Greater Poland is filled with deep respect for the original material, and at the same time expresses their subjective view of tradition. A bold look, full of references to jazz, blues, early music and free improvisation. The repertoire was based on folk melodies from the Konin area -- from the villages of Babiak, Kramsk and Osiek Wielki. The lyrics were written by the singer and poet, Gosia Zagajewska. Creators coming primarily from the world of improvisation and jazz propose a new, non-obvious and uncompromising reinterpretation of traditional music, with a mood and sound loosely referring to artists such as Tom Waits or Nick Cave. The arrangements are largely based on rhythm, trance, looping, but also on improvisation, from which the tradition of rural music-making largely derives. The band's second album Puste ulice ("Empty Streets") is a well-thought-out, intense and coherent whole, consisting of both soothing ballads and short, dynamic songs with hints of punk or free jazz. The trio consistently familiarizes listeners with an uncompromising reinterpretation of traditional music, while surprising them with fresh, mature and bold ideas.

LP version. The new album of the Polski Piach trio is titled Anomalia ("Anomaly") and is the band's third album. After Poludnie and Pólnoc ("South/Noon" and "North/Midnight"), the band recorded a fully acoustic album, raw but brighter than Pólnoc. The songs contain the title anomalies and are narrative, even cinematic. They flow. The music of Polski Piach is a journey, both through the listener's imagination and musical styles. The album was recorded live in Piotr Zabrodzki's analog studio. The music was recorded on tape and mixed in analogue way. The cover was designed by Pawel Ryzko using drawings by Patryk Zakrocki.

The music of Polish band Extensa, although based on a traditional three-member instrumental line-up, escapes obvious genre assignments. Perhaps this is what a soundtrack to a film about a spaceship landing on the roof of a 200-year-old hut in the mysterious borderlands of eastern Wielkopolska, where the band comes from, could sound like. Heavy sounds and trance noise alternate with elements of psychedelia, bringing to mind the prefix "post" when describing their style. During their concerts, they evoke the atmosphere of classic Polish science fiction; the ghosts of Wilhelmi, Maklakiewicz, and Szulkin appear, the perversely used words of the Nobel Prize winner ex-president and quotations from old radio plays. The band's line-up closed in 2021, and since then it has received rave reviews touring regularly from the capital to the border. In February 2023, Extensa recorded its first material at Warsaw's Mustache Ministry Studio under the watchful and caring eye of Marcin Klimczak and soon fell into the stern but wide- open eye of Uncle Gusstaff. "We didn't agree on anything, no piece was prepared at home in advance, no one brought ideas for rehearsals" -- these are Andrzej's words. Everything is the result of "here and now." The band consists of: Mariusz Wróblewski (drums), Andrzej Radniecki (bass), and Pawel Wieloch (guitar). For fans of Russian Circles, Neurosis, Isis, Amenra.

Hailing from the Los Angeles underground of the 1980s, Savage Republic forged an astonishing reputation for themselves as art-punk and industrial pioneers with their legendary performances. Their brand of ritualistically tribal exhibitions blurred the boundaries of post-punk and industrial music. Their music incorporates minimalist bass rumbles, exotic and/or militaristic drumming, Arabic melodies, alternate tunings, primal chants and even a bit of surf guitar. In 2021 Savage Republic released the album Meteora on Gusstaff Records and during the tour promoting this album in January 2023, the band also played a concert in Wroclaw, Poland. It became not only a document of this route, but also a kind of summary of their entire history. The album is released in CD format (the entire concert), as a black LP (over half of the concert) and as a limited red vinyl with an eight-inch vinyl record (lathe-cut) added with a few remaining songs from the concert. Both LP versions were pressed on thick 200g vinyl. Vinyl versions include download codes with the entire concert.

Savage Republic released four full length albums in the 1980s, plus several live records and compilation tracks. In 1989 everything went quiet as the Republic scattered to pursue other interests and their labels and distributors folded. After reuniting in 2002 for a brief U.S. tour supporting the boxed-set reissue of their five studio albums by Mobilization Records, several of the members began sharing ideas for new songs, reviving the band officially in 2005. In 2006/2007 Savage Republic added drum professor Alan Waddington (the Unforgiven) to the line-up and released 1938 on Neurot Recordings, the band's first studio recording in 18 years. The limited edition Siam EP was also released on Neurot Recordings featuring alternate mixes of some of the 1938 material. With their first full-length album in seven years, Savage Republic returns with some of their best work yet! Self-recorded in a secret cavernous location, their mix of tribal textures, political anthems and Morricone-esque surf instrumentals once again transport the listener to faraway lands at turns both sinister and beautiful. One of many highlights of Meteora is the pandemic inspired piece "Unprecedented," written by Wire's Graham Lewis that is sure to become a staple in their set list. This longest-lasting lineup of Thom Fuhrmann, Ethan Port, Alan Waddington and Kerry Dowling have infused all the power of their legendary live performances into a cinematic sonic dreamscape.
