Italian sound artist Giulio Aldinucci returns with his fourth album on Karlrecords: Real is again a truly masterfully composed and sound-designed ambient masterpiece and a more than worthy follow-up to the critically acclaimed Borders And Ruins (2017), Disappearing In A Mirror (KR 055CD, 2018), and Shards Of Distant Times (KR 076CD/LP), which all made it onto several year's best lists. With now his fourth album for Karlrecords, the sound artist from Siena, Italy has proved a steady and prolific artist on the label roster. And each time, Giulio Aldinucci delivers a new ambient masterpiece that clearly carries his signature as composer/producer and yet reveals a slightly different approach to his modus operandi. Aldinucci's massive layers of sound, built from field recordings and an array of electronic gear, blend drone-y ambient with heavenly voices/sacred music that create an atmosphere of a consolatory melancholy -- alien, but with a graspable presence of human souls. And each album deals with a topic that Aldinucci came across in his observations of and reflections about today's society. In the words of Giulio himself: "The digital media we live with shape and define reality by filtering it, letting us run the risk of living without our personal and unique one. My new album expresses a need of something unmediated and authentic. Real is a reflection on the endless possibility of sonic transformation, the ability we have to create new realities transmuting the soundscape around us and the inner soundscape inside us, even only by imagining it. A (deep)real experience permeated by dreamy lyricism." 180 gram vinyl; gatefold sleeve; includes download card.

Italian sound artist Giulio Aldinucci returns with his third album on Karl, Shards Of Distant Times, a masterfully composed and sound-designed ambient masterpiece. It's a more-than-worthy follow-up to the critically acclaimed Borders And Ruins (2017) and Disappearing In A Mirror (KR 055CD/LP, 2019) which both made it onto several year's best lists. Over the course of six solo albums on labels like Dronarivm plus EPs and collaborative albums with musicians such as Ian Hawgood (Consequence Shadows (HOMEN 094CD, 2018)) Aldinucci successively has been refining his skills as composer and sound designer. His elegant style blending ambient and field recordings came to full impact on his previous Karl albums Borders And Ruins and Disappearing In A Mirror which gained the Italian sound artist a lot of critical praise and made it onto several year's best lists, such as that of Acloserlisten.com. Aldinucci's latest effort is again not only a musical masterpiece of sublime beauty and sacral majesty, it also deals with philosophical concerns. Where Borders was a reflection on the instability of borders and Disappearing In A Mirror raised the very personal question of identity, Shards Of Distant Times explores the liminal areas of the contemporary soundscape that are characterized by the presence of human voice coming from old and time-worn recordings. Like in the auditory pareidolia, the psychological phenomenon in which the mind hears indistinct voices in random noise where none exist, voices and music emerge from the everyday soundscape through the omnipresent internet connected devices, creating glitches between time and space.

Opener "Brezza Perduti Arsi Tramonti" is an introspective composition, where fluttering soundscapes meld with soaring choral voices, contrasting with the darker post-rock atmospherics of "Mirages and Miracles", with distorted radio transmissions crackling through the heavy ether. The detuned, insistent bliss of "Meiosis, Remembrances" intertwines delicate piano with heavy synthesis, leading into the dubbed-out ambience of "Fuoco Lontano", heard inside a glassine chamber with a distant skyline twinkling in the background. The reworks -- meditations on meaning and perception -- showcase how an established body of work can be diversified, and how "[in] a world where many tend to create borders to contain people that share supposed homogenous features, music reminds us that diversity is the soul of humanity". RIYL: Steve Roach, Fennesz, Kara Lis Coverdale, William Basinski, Tim Hecker, Deepchord, the dronier moments of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. 180 gram vinyl.

KarlRecords presents a repress of Borders And Ruins (2017), Giulio Aldinucci's ambient masterpiece of sublime beauty and sacral majesty which made it onto several best-of lists of 2017. Giulio Aldinucci is an Italian sound artist working in the fields of experimental electroacoustic music, field recording and ambient soundscape. Born 1981 in Siena, his catalog comprises four solo albums on labels like Dronarivm (Chihei Hatakeyama, Aidan Baker), Time Released Sound or Home Normal ((HOMEN 067CD, 2016), (HOMEN 094CD, 2018)) plus EPs and collaborative albums. He has also written music for theater, video art, documentaries, and short movies and was awarded with an honorable mention at the 18th International Electroacoustic Composition Competition Música Viva 2017 for his composition "Mute Sirens". Together with Attilio Novellino, Aldinucci launched the project Postcards From Italy which consists of an album published by Oak Editions, live events and an installation by AIPS Collective and Gianmarco Del Re. Borders And Ruins, his first album for KarlRecords, is a reflection on the instability of borders - borders as an extreme attempt to discriminate and rationalize that turns into a source of chaos and cultural ruins on both sides - and their impact on the relationship between people and territory. It is also a sonic diary, a constantly mutating soundscape where electronic sounds and field recordings (taken during several travels around the continent) blend into an ambient masterpiece of sublime beauty and sacral majesty.

Where Borders And Ruins was a reflection on the instability of borders as an extreme attempt to discriminate and rationalize that turns into a source of chaos and cultural ruins on both sides, and their impact on the relationship between people and territory, Disappearing In A Mirror raises the very personal question of identity. In the words of Aldinucci , " Disappearing In A Mirror focuses on the fluidity of the identity concept, highlighting the harmonious coexistence of contradictory elements and the transitional features that characterize every transformation. It is a reflection on the current situation of change and disruption and at the same time it is a gaze into the human timeless soul and its inner soundscapes."

In 2012, Giulio Aldinucci released Tarsia on Nomadic Kids Republic to critical acclaim. Follow-up Goccia takes a rather thunderous step in the direction of a bang-on classic with one of the most complete, catchy, and ambitious albums heard in a long time. Balancing organic layers with some fantastic melodic synth hooks, flying straight through a maze of frequencies from drones, bleeps, bloops, background music, jingles, jangles, gut-punching subs, and whatever else he can. Features vocals by Nadia Bredice. Mastering and design by Ian Hawgood. Cover art by Peter Nejedly. Comes in a portrait style matte card digipak with hand-embossed printing. Edition of 500.
