The Beach Boys, live from Sankei Hall, Osaka, Japan on January 13th, 1966. As 1966 got underway, Brian Wilson was crafting Pet Sounds in Los Angeles, while his bandmates continued to tour. Mike Love, Al Jardine, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston started the year by flying to Japan, where they toured from January 7th to the 23rd. Presented here is the entire NHK Radio broadcast from Sankei Hall, Osaka, Japan on January 13th, 1966. The superb performance finds them in excellent form as they tackle a cross-section of their most popular material to date, both originals and covers. Surfer Girl (1963) is the third studio album from The Beach Boys, and the first on which the brilliant Brian Wilson was given complete production credit. The album features the hit title-track, the classic "Little Deuce Coupe," and, perhaps most importantly, the gorgeous and lush "In My Room," which gave a hint of the dense production brilliance that Wilson would perfect three years later with the immortal Pet Sounds (1966). Surfer Girl spent more than a year on the US charts and is the perfect balance between early surf party Beach Boys and the later, more introspective sounds they are now best known for. The original 12-song track list, found here on side A, features the band's first two singles -- 'Surfin'' and 'Surfin' Safari', while side B is made up primarily of rare outtakes from their 1961-62 Candix studio sessions. The two tracks, 'Barbie' and 'What Is a Young Girl Made Of?,' were actually issued as a single in early 1962 under the name of Kenny & The Cadets, and feature a 20-year-old Brian Wilson on lead vocals."
