Pierre Berthet is a Belgium-based musician, composer, inventor, sound installation artist and craftsman, and this is his second release on Sub Rosa. He studied percussion with André Van Belle and Georges-Elie Octors, improvisation with Garrett List, composition with Frederic Rzewski, and music theory with Henri Pousseur. He designs and builds sound objects and installations (made with steel, plastic, water, magnetic fields, etc.), and presents them in exhibitions and solo or duo performances. He has worked with Frédéric Le Junter, Pierre Bastien, DJ Low and Rudi Trouvé and played percussion with Arnold Dreyblatt. On Extended Loudspeakers, jerrycans (fuel containers made from pressed steel) are connected by a network of steel wires, with each wire length and can location adapted to the space. A loudspeaker is slipped inside one of the cans; the sounds it broadcasts make the wires vibrate. When these sounds are modulated (pitch, timbre, volume, density), the cans produce various resonances, which can be injected back into the speaker (feedback). The cans are hanging, so that listeners can circulate and choose different listening perspectives.

He has created here two minimal explorations of his own musical instruments -- springs, tank, tubular drums, jerry can, wires sound installations, home-made instruments, found objects -- the two continuum process pieces -- purely acoustic, full of drones and natural percussions (1. Strings are excited by percussion, friction, magnetic fields and electric motors.' First solo record from this musician/instrument builder from Liege, Belgium (after a collaboration CD of strange songs with Frederic le Junter and one long track on a Sub Rosa compilation), also collaborator of Arnold Dreyblatt for performances. You'll find the first part in a Dreyblatt style, a center part of layered and droning sounds (but without any effects) and a strong finale.
