Internationally recognized for adding a French flavor to Amsterdam's talented tech-house generation, Paris-born Julien Chaptal has soon made the charts his second home. His debut album took the techno scene by storm and his follow-up EP bridged the divide between classic house and modern tech house. Continuously inspiring the music scene with his fresh take has not only ensured a glittering array of releases, but has also led him to remix for heavyweights such as Underworld and Jimmy Somerville.

INTAC 033EP
|
Julien Chaptal has seen a massive international breakthrough. Adding a little French flavor to the Dutch sound, he has become a key member of the current Amsterdam techno/house generation. "Garden Secrets" begins with a distant disco pulse and evolves into a tech-house roller as it takes a twist down the sound garden path with high octane industrial wallops that are sliced with heavy-fisted chords on what we can only guess is a steel electric organ.

REMOTE 025EP
|
Remote Area's 25th release presents Julien Chaptal, Amsterdam's favorite Frenchman. Although a Parisian at heart, Julien moved to Holland more than 10 years ago and has become a key member of the Amsterdam New School Sound generation. He's back again with another massive release: "Pump" is hard-hitting and in-your-face. This dance bomb can't be ignored -- it pumps, squelches, soars and thumps -- a killer tune for the club floor.

Artists such as Lauhaus, Boris Werner, Kabale und Liebe, Julien Chaptal, David Labeij and Gimikk are part of this infamous scene. Julien Chaptal's debut album Tokens opened up doors to his well-deserved international acknowledgement. He rolls on with more funky tech-house grooves with this jam. REMOTE 001CD

This is the debut full-length release by French producer Julien Chaptal -- one of the up-and-coming artists of the new Amsterdam electronic underground. Spearheaded by labels like 100% Pure, Intacto, and Remote Area, and reinforced with releases by Shinedoe, 2000 And One, Kabale Und Liebe, Anton Pieete and Polder, the Amsterdam scene has managed to put itself back on the international map. On Tokens, Chaptal teams up with Daniel "Mumbling" Sanchez and Carlos "Screaming" Valdes. Compared to the other new minimal-, techno- and house-producers in Amsterdam, Chaptal's sound is definitely different. This music breathes his musical roots: the French house that dominated dance music and especially his hometown Paris, in the second half of the '90s. This beautiful collection of tracks is the best proof that Chaptal is one of the finest talents Amsterdam has to offer. The grooves are house-y, deep and funky, the subtle melodies fresh and uplifting. Several tracks can cause severe damage on the dancefloor, as already was proven by the happy few that were able to play them in front of a crowd, like Remote Area label boss Dylan Hermelijn (2000 and One). Chaptal had his first break with his own group Le Clic, which has so far only released one 12", but became a popular live act in The Netherlands. He has also performed with the 6-piece Amsterdam 661, consisting of six members of the burgeoning Amsterdam scene: Lauhaus, David Labeij, Quazar, Boris Werner, and Kabale Und Liebe. He also produced a 12" with Lauhaus, which became a solid international club hit. Tokens is a great album, and proof that French house is alive and living in Amsterdam.
