PAMPA 017EP
|
Jakobus Durstewitz and Mense Reents aka Die Vogel present The Chicken EP, featuring quite an interesting guest. "The Chicken" begins with that familiar Pampa swagger, all clickety-clackety in 3-D, and soon we hear the extended howl of some kind of beaked instrument. Is that Vincent Price? No, it's famed shoe-eating director Werner Herzog. "Mesmerize" is easier on the psyche, both majestic and gentle, with legato horns and strings massaging your mood. Neapolitan sherbet for open-airs and open ears.

Die Vögel have laid another milestone in the history of club music -- the Fratzengulasch EP. Groundbreaking, surreal and captivatingly timeless, this dance music doesn't give a damn about the laws of gravity and the monotony of everyday routines. Listen in to the dream-like canons, freely dissonant brass orchestrations and hypnotic, psychedelic beats. The arrangements are clever, without relying on samples and tried-and-tested techniques. This is a tribal meditation.

2023 repress. Pampa is a new label from DJ Koze and Marcus Fink, dedicated to releasing club music that's seriously danceable. The first release is by Die Vogel, a collaborative project between Jakobus Siebels and Mense Reents. "Blaue Moschee" features oompa-style brass looped over a stripped-back kick-drum. "Petardo" is driven by growling trombones and tubas set to a rolling, tribal drum tattoo with '60s British jazz horns and fiery woodwinds. "Empire" finds exquisitely-arranged brass parts interlocking into a single-minded groove.
