Fallou hasn't, however, followed Youssou on his quest to find global "crossover" success?not if that means diluting his full-strength mbalax. In Fallou's music the tama drum cuts a dizzying asymetrical swathe across the beat and the sabar mesmerizes with its insistent ratatata-tat, tat-tat. Guitars and horns dart around and through the relentless polyrhythms, contrasting exquisitely with Fallou's supple, lyrical voice.
