RELEASE DATE: 12/6/2024
2LP, 180g white/grey vinyl, pantone printed sleeve, UV spot varnish. Includes download code with digital bonus tracks. In honor of its 25th anniversary, Tresor Records presents a white and grey vinyl edition of one of the most seminal albums in the label's catalog: Drexciya's Neptunes Lair. 2022 marked the 20th anniversary of the passing of James Stinson and the releases of the Transllusion and Shifted Phases albums. In recognition, the rightsholders, their families, and the label had commissioned Detroit-based contemporary artist Matthew Angelo Harrison to re-conceptualize the covers of Tresor's Drexciya-related catalogue. These editions were released sequentially, bimonthly, starting early-September 2022. The series started with Neptune's Lair, first released in 1999, and the "Hydro Doorways" single arriving shortly after, followed by Harnessed The Storm and Digital Tsunami. In the beginning of 2023, Transllusion was released. The series was completed by the long-awaited re-release of Shifted Phases. These records, individually and as a catalogue, represent some of the most crucial moments in the Tresor label history, with the sound and mythic world of Drexciya undoubtedly inspiring generations.

Detroit's Drexciya, with their close ties to Underground Resistance, emerged in 1991. With an encoded agenda and socio-political mission aimed at the world, a new page of Drexciya's grand history was written entitled Neptune's Lair. Drexciya is the sound of originality embodying all the musical styles and history that Detroit the city has seen and been part of. Drexciya is music for change that defies categorization; traditionally armed with freestyle electro, techno, funk, and jazz while covering an entire spectrum of moods. While words won't do Neptune's Lair proper justice, rootsy Kraftwerkian techno, gives way to G-style electro, while jazzy freestyle funk evolves alongside classic 4/4 club sound. Although the roots run deep, Neptune's Lair heralded an important new chapter in the musical connections between Detroit's finest and Tresor.

2014 repress. After the re-release of Drexciya's Neptune's Lair (TRESOR 10129CD/LP) and Transllusion's The Opening of the Cerebral Gate (TRESOR 270CD/LP), Harnessed the Storm is the third album in Tresor Records' great Drexciya reissue program. Originally released in 2002, Harnessed the Storm was conceived as the opening chapter of the legendary Seven Storms -- a series of seven albums created within a single year and released via several labels under different names. Harnessed the Storm was the sole one in the series credited under the main Drexciya project. The album, which is considered to be one of the pair's darkest, was produced in a time of creative outbreak and emotional turbulence. The duo's confidence was at a peak, new techniques revolutionized musical production, but the duo also had to face Stinson's severe health issues. This led to a radical shift of pace in producing and releasing music. For the Detroit pair it was time to move on from their ground-breaking past. It was time for some shape-shifting and wave-jumping to occur, in Drexciya's terms.

2019 repress. The classic Drexciyan dancefloor moment "Digital Tsunami" is considered the signature track of 2002's Harnessed the Storm (TRES 181CD/LP) album. It is accompanied here by three titles that are not present on the 2LP vinyl version of the album. Harnessed the Storm was conceived as the opening chapter of the legendary Seven Storms -- a series of seven albums created within a single year and released via several labels under different names. This 12" also includes "Aquatic Cataclysm," which ranks with the most abstract, alien, and stark in their catalog. Another masterful lesson in futurist dance music from one of its strongest forces.

Classic repress of Drexciya's Harnessed The Storm, originally released in 2002 -- the armor-plated follow-up to 2001's Neptune's Lair (TRESOR 10129CD/LP). Detroit's best-kept secret reloads the torpedo tubes with 10 tracks of deep water darkness to break up your frozen waters. Neptune's Lair begins your journey underwater with the dream-like "Under Sea Disturbances" and the Kraftwerk-ian "Digital Tsunami," before diving deeper into the classic Motor City elektro of "Aquatic Cataclysm," "The Plankton Organization" and "Birth Of New Life." The final and deepest stage of this dangerous sonic dive ends with the old-skool of "Dr. Blowfins' Black Storm Stabilizing Spheres" and "Soul Of The Sea."
