2024 repress. Forest Drive West makes a welcome return to Echocord with the Recursion EP, featuring one solo cut and two collaborations with DB1 and Localhost. London's Forest Drive West has been steadily releasing his left of center take on techno over the past five years on the likes of Livity Sound, Hidden Hawaii, Delsin, AD93 fka Whities and of course Echocord where here returns here following the Parallel Space EP back in 2019. Leading the release is the murky, tense atmospherics of "100m," produced alongside regular collaborator DB1 the eight minute composition journeys through unfurling, expansive pads, subtly nuanced bass warbles and gritty off-kilter percussion. Next up, Forest Drive West joins forces with Localhost for title-cut "Recursion," embracing a 4/4 approach rhythmically this time and bringing hazy, ethereal pads, earth shattering subs and circling stab sequences into the limelight. Forest Drive West's solo cut "Anchor" then rounds out the release, taking things deeper into dub territory via tumbling percussive echoes, billowing chords and heavy doses of low-end drive.

Forest Drive West returns to Livity Sound with the Dualism EP, a tour de force of stripped dub aesthetics and swirling psychedelic rhythms. One of the finest breakthrough UK producers of recent years, in a short space of time Forest Drive West has created an enviable catalog across labels such as Livity Sound, Rupture, Echocord, Whities, and Mantis. This new EP marks some of his best work to date. The final track on the EP, "Scorpion", features Melbourne based percussionist Lucky Pereira whose frenetic but tightly locked drums add a fizzing energy to Forest Drive West's deep atmospheric rhythm track.

2025 repress. Forest Drive West delivers the Parallel Space EP via Copenhagen's Echocord, backed with a remix from Conforce. London's Forest Drive West has gained widespread recognition as a purveyor of raw and emotive techno over the past few years, releasing material on the likes of Livity Sound, Hidden Hawaii, Neighbourhood, and Whities. Here though see him returning to Echocord following his recent remix of Babe Roots on the imprint earlier this year. "Creation Dub" leads, fusing echoing dub chords and off-kilter drums with cavernous atmospherics and pulsating low-end tones before "Drift" edges into darker territories with murky synth textures, glitched-out percussion, and tension building drones creating a hypnotic and subtly nuanced six-and-a-half minutes. Title-track "Parallel Space" then opens the B-side, bring the rhythmic aspects into the spotlight this time as bumpy broken drums, a rounded sub line and oscillating percussion ebb and flow amongst hazy pads, fluttering echoes and expansive reverbs. Conforce's take on "Parallel Space" rounds out the package next and the Delsin regular delivers a typically classy interpretation with choppy bass stabs dynamically driving the composition as snippets of the original's ethereal textures and spiraling percussion are weaved within.

LIVITY 033EP

2019 repress. Livity Sound continues to be one of the most innovative labels of its era with another essential release, this time in the form of a debut long player from Forest Drive West. This extended double 12", Apparitions is a fascinating further development of the producer's intricate fusions of techno, dub and jungle. The acclaimed UK artist has released two EPs (Jinx/Scanners, LIVITY 022EP, 2017 and Static/Escape, LIVITY 028EP, 2017) on the label before now, as well as on its sister label dnuoS ytiviL and the likes of Hidden Hawaii, Appian Sound, and London drum-n-bass outlet Rupture. Little is known about the London-based producer, but in just a couple of years he has established his own unique blend of complex rhythms and tactile sound design, distilling a rich history of UK musical influences into fresh new forms. This record continues in that tradition with a mix of sparse rhythm tracks that contrast heavyweight drum programming with rich and deft sound design. From menacing and mysterious, to cinematic and hypnotic, it makes for a compelling and immersive experience; Apparitions is a landmark release for one of the UK's most exciting new producers.

Livity Sound Recordings present Forest Drive West's return to the label, following up 2016's System/Show Them 12" (LIVITY 199EP). This time, the smoke laced atmospherics and broken rhythms are reconfigured for maximum impact on "Jinx", whilst "Scanners" subtler late-night grooves and grit-laden percussion produce a melancholic ebb and flow.

LIVITY 199EP
|
Stunning debut from London based artist Forest Drive West for Livity Sound. "System" revolves around an irresistible deep and tripping pneumatic broken drum groove, propelling the track through ten tense minutes of foggy atmospherics. "Show Them" is similarly immersive but this time with nods to the densely smoked out UK dancefloors of 2004, austere and hypnotic.
