Marquis Hawkes presents two takes on one concept. "Part 1" takes his amalgam of disco and house to its logical conclusion, perfectly walking the tightrope between joyous abandon and classy depth, and giving DJs the perfect weapon for all floors, from sweaty basements to much bigger venue. "Part 2" then flips the program with the same raw materials and sets up the perfect shot, directed at a big-room house-techno crossover and building on the foundations laid by the Detroit techno originators by infusing contemporary production values and a more modern twist.

Marquis Hawkes makes his return to Aus Music in the form of a blazing, floor-focused two-track EP. The Basement Is Burning takes its name from a near-fateful experience stemming from an electrical fire in Hawkes's home which culminated in him and his family being evacuated from a fifth floor balcony. The title track kicks off with splashy, live drum samples that are armored with electronic layers before a feel-good piano lick glides into the mix. "Tower Block Boogie" then tumbles short funk samples through bold drums as a fervid sense of tension burns throughout.

Aus Music present another solo EP from label mainstay Marquis Hawkes. The Berlin based artist's previous work has comprised fun, sample-heavy tracks designed with nothing but the dancefloor in mind. Sweet Temptation expands on this bringing melody, rhythm, and chords to the foreground. Jubilant, powerful vocal lines and stony drums are the core ingredients and their melding results in a collection of four tracks of varying moods and intensities. While "Burning Light" and "Sweet Temptation" pack a certain big-room punch, "Eivissa" and "Zapper Bluesky" carry depth and soul in a manner that recalls a classic and cherished Hawkes sound.

Long term friend of Aus Music Marquis Hawkes presents Doornroosje. Hot on the heels of his recent LP Social Housing (HTH 058CD/LP, 2016) - the Berlin based artist lines up Doornroosje, a tight a two-tracker that remains consistent with his output on Aus: dancefloor-focused jams suffused with simplicity and soul. "Discopuss" kicks things off with a potent combination of samples and hardware as sassy funk samples are propelled by tough crunching drums. The title track follows up with piano stabs and busy, percolating synth lines driven at a pace-y rate to rapturous effect.

Aus Music follows landmark 2015 records from the likes of Shenoda (AUS 1588EP) and 2015 addition Fold (AUS 1587EP) with the return of the esteemed London-born, Berlin-based Marquis Hawkes. In the wake of his 2015 outing on Houndstooth (HTH 048EP), Hawkes packs his first full-length EP on Aus with disco loops and tough analog drum-work. Ripe, punchy drums propel the tumbling, truncated, funky loops of "Chances" before the syncopated rhythms of "A Very Deep Groove" lay the groundwork for a rich, hypnotic mood. The sparse sampling and naturally sequenced drum tracks of "Free of Sin" make for steadily blooming tension.
