It's the return of the "Drum Machine Man" to Permanent Vacation. In 2010, Tevo Howard, who dusted off the mirrorballs in Chi-town like no other in recent times, brought us the definition of "What Is Noise?" Today he asks What Is Sound? and delivers the answer straight away: more essential, stripped-down and hypnotic Chicago house business that shows Tevo's full spectrum from party starters and almost technoid bangers to late-night pearls. Pump and bounce!

On Tevo Howard's first CD release, Hour House Is Your Rush marries his two EP releases for HHYR: Crystal Republic from 2010 and Pandora's Box. Next to that, two more tracks are added, "Move" from 2009 as well as "I Won't Lay Back," from Rick Poppa Howard's s/t EP of the same year. This makes a comprehensive compilation showing some of the best output from his recent catalog. Though his tracks are heavily inspired by the early days, his productions sound very crisp and "today." The Crystal Republic tracks show his emotional and raw warehouse side, whereas on the Pandora's Box tracks, Tevo experiments with different rhythms and textures, which results in a varied set of tracks, from classic Chicago acid house to more Italo leanings. Tevo's music truly takes us back to the original vibe of Chicago house music, without getting too dusty.

Tevo Howard is currently one of the hottest names in the house circuit. Following up releases on labels like Rush Hour or his own Beautiful Granville imprint, he now delivers his Chicago house twist on Permanent Vacation. The What Is Noise? EP is his first release for the label. What initially started as a remix request led to the beauty of four originals which show the whole variety of Tevo Howard's insight on today's house music.
