Wizz Jones is an undisputed giant of modern folk, and one of the finest acoustic guitarists Britain has ever produced. Though he has made numerous acclaimed studio albums, often accompanied by luminaries such as Bert Jansch, Ralph McTell and John Renbourn, he has never released a solo live recording -- until now. Capturing all the ambience and spontaneity of a gig, the set finds Wizz performing both standards and originals, all the while showcasing the inimitable musicianship that has won him fans including Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. Includes rare photos.

Previously reissued on CD by Sunbeam, now issued on deluxe LP format as well; 180 gram pressing. Long prayed-for reissue of this classic 1970 UK folk stunner that's a missing link both in the Wizz Jones oeuvre and in the guitar-freedom music of the prime era. The Legendary Me was Wizz Jones' second studio album, originally released by the obscure Village Thing label. Cosmically figuring somewhere between the non-trad radical expressions of the Mike Cooper/Roy Harper axis and Clive Palmer's post-ISB journey, Jones' terrestrial position finds him alongside Davy Graham, Shirley Collins & Palmer at the dawn of '60s UK freedom. The Legendary Me has been impossible to find since release. If you've ever wished John Renbourn was twice as good or thought Bert Jansch was too uptight, then this is your cup of meat. Includes detailed liner notes and cool vintage photos.

"Wizz Jones is regularly cited as an early influence by the likes of Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards, amongst many others. He was also a crucial mentor to 1960s folk-blues royalty like Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Ralph McTell. More recently, he's frequently name-checked as an icon by younger artists, including Thurston Moore & Stephen Malkmus. Originally released as a very limited pressing on a German label in 2001, Lucky The Man is still Wizz's most recent studio album. This digitally re-mastered reissue is enhanced by the addition of 5 bonus tracks, all selected by Wizz himself. The final bonus cut, 'Sugar For Sugar' is a previously unreleased duet with Wizz's hero, Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Lucky The Man features a stunning array of supporting and duetting musicians, including ex-Pentangle members John Renbourn and Jacqui McShee, Balham Alligator Gary Ricard and Wizz's old busking partner from the '50s and early '60s, Clive Palmer. Also featured are guitarists Martin Wheatley & Bernd Rest, and Wizz's son Simeon on sax. Plus of course, Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Still traversing the musical landscape he helped to pioneer -- folk, blues, cowboy songs, jazz and traditional English tunes -- this is the sound of Wizz Jones in superb voice and guitar playing form."

Long prayed-for reissue of this classic 1970 UK folk stunner that's a missing link both in the Wizz Jones oeuvre and in the guitar-freedom music of the prime era. The Legendary Me was Wizz Jones' second studio album, originally released by the obscure but vital Village Thing label (following his self-titled debut on United Artists). Cosmically figuring somewhere between the non-trad radical expressions of the Mike Cooper/Roy Harper axis and Clive Palmer's post-ISB journey, Jones' terrestrial position finds him alongside Davy Graham, Shirley Collins & Palmer at the dawn of '60s UK freedom. Under-recorded until the late '60s, The Legendary Me has been impossible to find since release. It fits snuggly next to his other classic, Right Now, released a year later on Columbia. If you've ever wished John Renbourn was twice as good or thought Bert Jansch was too uptight, then this is your cup of meat. Remastered the way you've come to expect from Sunbeam -- at Abbey Road from the original tapes -- this perfect product includes three killer bonus tracks (including a Leonard Cohen cover that doesn't suck and the master's take on Jansch's "Needle of Death"), liner notes, and cool vintage photos. --Kris Price

"A new studio album from one of the cornerstones of England's contemporary acoustic folk and folk blues guitar scene. A year in the making! Joined by various musical companions on a number of the tracks: John Renbourn (guitar, ex-Pentangle), Jacqui McShee (vocals, Pentangle), Clive Palmer (banjo, Incredible String Band, COB, Famous Jug Band), Gerry Conway (drums, percussion, Fairport Convention, Fotheringay and too many others to mention!), Bernd Rest (guitar, Rosie Brown), Martin Wheatley (National Tricone tenor guitar & ukelele, Hula Bluebirds), Simeon Jones (harmonica, sax one cut, played with Lazy Farmer and others), Gary Ricard (guitar, Balham Alligators). The album contains songs representing Wizz? definitive original guitar techniques (as on his rendition of 'Weeping Willow Blues'). Splendid guitar interaction with John Renbourn on a fine acoustic version of Cannonball Adderley's 'Sermonette'. A beautifully arranged version of 'Omie Wise' with both John Renbourn and Jacqui McShee, which smacks of Pentangle with Jacqui and Wizz? voices blending nicely. The album brings back Wizz and Clive Palmer playing together on a couple of songs, including the stunning and hypnotic 'Paris' (on which they both play banjo), appropriate, as they busked together in Paris streets over 40 years ago. Still traversing the landscape he helped to pioneer in England -- folk, American blues, cowboy songs, jazz, the English tradition, broken hearts, and something entirely unique, THIS is Wizz Jones, in superb voice and guitar playing form."
