A new Toy Tonics EP by label boss Kapote. Four tracks for the dancefloor inspired by Italo disco, new wave funk, and NYC '90s house. A perfect sound for the new Y2K vibes on 2024 dancefloors. Kapote and his friends release music that connects analogue and band vibes with digital production in a very fresh and unique way. Influenced by European underground disco and American house as well as afro beats, new wave, and soulful electronica.

Toy Tonics brings back the Kapote album What It Is -- ten dancefloor tracks originally released in 2019 -- now reworked, re-edited and with two new tracks, released as What It Is (2.0). House music, but with a heavy jazz-funk, brasil, lo-fi influence. A mood that evokes early Moodymann, Kerri Chandler or 1990s Paris stuff. When this album came out originally, it caught the attention of many great DJs -- DJ Harvey was playing "Jaas Func Haus" a lot at Pike in Ibiza, and Gerd Janson, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kenny Dope and Blessed Madonna were filmed playing other tracks from the album. Kapote (Mathias Modica, also known as Munk) doesn't release much music -- he is mainly involved in the Toy Tonics label development, creative direction, and productions of other artists that release on Toy Tonics. Originally a piano and art student, he later discovered DJing, nightlife, and electronic music. Mathias aka Kapote aka Munk has produced and released records with artists like Peaches, James Muprhy and Nancy Whang (of LCD Soundsystem), The Rammellzee, and WhoMadeWho.

House music, but with a heavy jazz-funk, Brasil, lo-fi influence. A mood that reminds early Moodymann, Kerri Chandler, or 1990ies Paris stuff. Loft disco and indie house. When this album came out originally in 2019 it caught the attention of many great DJs. DJ Harvey was playing "Jaas Func Haus" a lot at Pike in Ibiza and Gerd Janson, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kenny Dope, and Blessed Madonna were filmed playing other tracks from the album. Kapote doesn't release much music as he is mainly involved in the Toy Tonics label development, creative direction and is also in many productions of other artists that release on Toy Tonics. Originally a piano and art student, he later discovered DJing, nightlife, electronic music and by now is doing what he does with Toy Tonics with a couple of friends and like-minded producers. Kapote's real name is Mathias Modica and if you google this you will find out he has been doing music before Toy Tonics under the name of Munk. Doing another label called Gomma Records. Where he and some friends already created a little universe based on electronic music, street art, DIY culture, shirt design, underground exhibitions. Mathias aka Kapote aka Munk has produced and released records with artists like Peaches, James Murphy and Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, The Rammellzee, and WhoMadeWho. This is the past. The future will be new Kapote stuff currently in the making with Cody Currie and Sam Ruffillo. Meanwhile check out What It Is (2nd Version).

Kapote is the head of Berlin's future disco-neo funk-nasty house label Toy Tonics. And you always recognize his vibe... that mix of live played keyboards and basses combined with rare samples cut on an MPC. Before Kapote got into dance music he studied jazz piano and plays several instruments. Here now you get three remixes from his album material. Banger all the way. Remixes by Sworn Virgins, Art Of Tones, and Rahaan.

Brasiliko is the new Kapote EP, with remixes by magic Byron The Aquarius (Sound Signature) and Giovanni Damico (Lumberjacks in Hell). Toy Tonics founder and main producer Kapote comes back after eight months with a two-track EP. Somebody called it jazz funk house - and that fits. Crazy flute and Rhodes piano solos played by Mathias "Munk" Modica on Kapote's heavy funk basslines and rolling drum patterns. It's house, it's broken beat.

Berlin based head of Toy Tonics Kapote is back with three new tracks. He starts with a deep, sample-based 118 bpm house track: "Temptation". Quite similar to the mood of the recent Black Loops or Coeo tracks on Toy Tonics. With the second tune he leaves the usual house 4/4 groves and comes up with a -- 100% sample-free -- jazz house, mid-tempo shaker. Munk plays all the bass and synths on this track. The final track then goes hard into the breakbeat funk corner. The keyboard solo -- a Moog played by Munk again -- is so funked up.

Kapote returns with another deep funk house EP on Toy Tonics. Slap bass, Wurlitzer jazz pianos, old school house drum machines, nasty talks. This three-tracker continues the vibe of his last single "The Nose" (TOYT 060EP, 2016). This is slow grooving dance music without stress. Jazz funk inspired mid- tempo house with live played bass, keyboards, and lot of warm harmonies. In fact, Kapote used to play keyboards and bass in jazz bands before getting absorbed by dance music culture. He is a big fan of late '60s hard bop jazz, as well as '70s jazz funk and disco.

Kapote loves funk and Blaxploitation movies. Kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his basslines - melodic basslines create sexual tension. Kapote adds a few warm, jazzy Rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverb and filtering. In the highest points this music is pure endorphin. It is four-to-the-floor - but it has a soulful analog sound. Kapote says he was listening to records from old Detroit label Red Planet and Parisian downtempo pioneers Motorbass and La Funk Mob while making this record. And yes, the vibe is there. Brame & Hamo remix "Uhh Baby".

Kapote presents his debut EP, delivering house music influenced by rare funk and soul -- or by the mid-'90s wave of filter house and the French touch. He likes Paul Johnson and Detroit's Red Planet label (The Martian!), but also French people like La Funk Mob and early Superdiscount stuff. Kapote creates new grooves that flow with a big bunch of soul, and he has the old records and the right machines to make them swing in a new way. Includes a dancefloor-funk remix by Berlin duo Session Victim.
