Directed by Peter Watkins (best-known for his Oscar-winning 1965 short film The War Game), Privilege is a cult classic from 1967. Starring Manfred Mann's singer Paul Jones and supermodel Chrissie Shrimpton, it concerns the attempts of the state to control the masses by manipulating a pop star. Its soundtrack combines hip pop and incidental baroque sounds from Mike Leander (who worked with The Beatles at much the same time), and has gone on to influence artists as diverse as Patti Smith and Morrissey. Finally available on CD for the first time. Digitally remastered.
