"The legendary Detroit band. Their first single (included here as extra tracks) was released in 1967, they went on to be the 'Official White Panther Party Band' preaching revolutionary ideology alongside dope, sex and r'n'r. They played the infamous 1968 Democratic Convention that turned into a police riot. Their manager, John Sinclair became a hippie martyr after being jailed for ten years for two joints, inspiring John Lennon's '10 For 2' song. They were thrown off their first label, Electra, and signed to Atlantic for two more albums. Now greatly revered as one of the seminal rock'n'roll bands and a huge inspiration for punk. Thunder Express documents their first and last studio work -- six tracks recorded in France in '72 at Studio Castle Herouville for a TV show; plus four tracks from their first two singles from '66 and '68. The title track is a previously unreleased song unavailable elsewhere. Two extra tracks from the rare earliest single 'Borderline,' are added. Includes inner bag with notes and interview from 1970, and the White Panther Party '10-Point Program.'"

1999 release. Legendary studio sessions made at Herouville Castle in March 1972 with MC5 kickin' out maximum energy. You can hear their classics ("Ramblin' Rose," Kick Out the Jams," "Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa," "I Just Don't Know," etc.) alternated with really inspired versions of The Stones' "Empty Heart," John Lee Hooker's "Motor City Is Burning" and their Them meets Blue Cheer assault on "I Can Only Give You Everything." Mastered from the original master tapes, Thunder Express is amazing proof of how much Detroit Motor City's energy can be packed onto reel-to-reel tape. Includes original pictures from the session and new artwork.
