The Eyewitness is the newest album from Jeff Mills and it is composed from the perspective of an unknowingly complicit bystander and it is at the very least, psychologically pathological in nature. What this release is essentially proposing is an admission to the diagnosis that no one is immune to shock and trauma. The Eyewitness reveals a habitual pattern in the way it symbolizes a mirror reflection of mankind in its most vulnerable moments. As an artist, what Mills is notoriously known for is the perspectives and paths he chooses to approach hefty, complex, and sometimes, awkward subjects. He suggests sound as a reflection and what listeners might be able to see in themselves. In the same vicinity of his recent solo albums, the direction, scope, and target of The Eyewitness is first about listeners, then about it. More than the few previous albums he's released lately, this one has a unique relationship in terms of imagery and visual treatments that represent the concept. The front cover shows Mills, neatly dressed in a black suit that ap-pears to be caught in the act of doing something methodically as he cohorts to support with a bright white type of surgical light towards the viewer. Other photos show him in darkened spaces. Remote and deep in thought. Other clues are the titles of the tracks such as "Sacred Iridescent Mirror (The Pledge)": this refers to the act of installing value and credit to something ambiguous, and "Menticide" which means the systematic effort to undermine and destroy a person's values and beliefs. In the opening track, "In A Traumatized World," listeners hear the narration spoken by Mills, in a language he specifically created for this album. It's a dialect that is designed to be undistinguishable, but spoken with a compassion that it could be sympathized with. In the latter part of the track, it reaches a climatic point. Meaning, "it" has happened. And the album is the evidence.

This double LP is cut in reverse, and plays inside out. Jeff Mills presents his new album The Trip, the world's first cosmic opera. What happens on the cosmic journey toward the black hole? What is on the other side of the black hole? Jeff Mills explores these questions through a performance and an album release, that appeals to the auditory and visual senses. A performance focusing on being lost in space The Trip began about leaving planet Earth and searching the cosmos for new locations to live. This album displays, in five theoretical scenarios, what could happen after entering through a black hole and exiting on the other side. Featuring special guest Jun Togawa . Jeff Mills, fascinated by Jun's unique way of singing as well as a commanding stage presence, approached her through the right channels and by the evening of the same day, Jun Togawa agreed and the lyrics had been written. The recording sessions were conducted remotely between their locations in Japan and the US. Two songs featuring Jun are "Contradiction" and "Hole." For both songs, Jun added the vocals to the rhythm originally composed by Jeff Mills, and the final synth pad (added by Shinichi Yamaguchi) was edited by Jeff Mills. On "Contradiction," he wanted to include a guitar similar to the style of rock and roll legend Bo Diddley, which is masterfully played by Kazuhide Yamaji of the current Yapoos.

Jeff Mills on The Clairovoyant: "There are many ways to imagine the future. One might be to look back in the past to see what has similarities to what we are seeing today. Another way might be to invent and build a time machine to jettison ahead in time to get a glimpse. And, one way might be to use our natural senses to feel what the future might be like. Though all are intriguing to explore, this album is about the latter option. We are a species of human animals and we are guided by the ways of 'knowing' from feeling; by the ways of intuition, premonitions, and sensing. Each one of us are born with this special tool set that tells us when the time is right, when enough is enough and when there may be more or less to it. It has been these skills that has allowed humanity to survive and flourish for thousands of years. It is also safe to say that we do not know all there is to know about this skill. A Clairvoyant is a person who claims to have a supernatural ability to perceive events in the future or beyond normal sensory contact. 100 years around 1920, a person with such abilities that could summon, speak to the decease and spirits were in high demand due to post World War I battle casualties, the Spanish Flu virus pandemic of 1918, the social and civil unrest and many more events that made uncertainty the norm. Ironically, the we were doomed to repeat some of these events and what we're experiencing today. The general impression of Clairvoyant was that of a conductor of faux hope, scam artist that preys on grief and desperation or someone that believes in their natural ability a bit too much! In many cases, this might have credit, but also, it was this person, with this way of supposedly channeling the beyond that gave people hope, optimism, resolve and much needed closure. The album plays in the way of a metaphysical seance and should be listened to in a darkened, candle lit room. A silent space, free of outside noise, chatter or talking and other visual distractions. The album should be listened in full -- from beginning to end."

Sight, sound, and space are deeply rooted in the work of Jeff Mills. But what do these three quintessential elements mean? Is it possible to describe to someone what it is like to see for the first time, or to listen to music in a new way, or to travel throughout the galaxy without having to break through the earth's atmosphere? The man from the moon has deep-seated thoughts about these concepts and explains them through this massive compilation, Sight, Sound And Space. The project has Mills diving into his extensive catalog and selecting tracks which epitomize his feelings on each. Sight is a beautiful faculty bestowed upon the human race. Mills wants his music to draw the correlation between sight and sound. In this opening part, you see him select tracks which often soundtrack classical sci-fi films, in which what we experience is the embodiment of all three: sight, sound, and space. As in with opening track "Perfecture", composed for Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927), where the track is to accentuate the perfection of the futuristic buildings John Coltrane used to deconstruct music when he listened to it, listening to each aspect individually to absorb and appreciate it completely. Repetition, or the lack of it, is often at the heart of listening to music: it helps us understand its structure. An understanding of sound aids in reaching into the realm of music which encapsulates things or experiences, and electronic music is the perfect tool for exploring these possibilities. Tracks like "Microbe" exude this point, with layered beats each with their own meaning and direction which make a tantalizing cut. Space is one of the pinnacles of Mills' interests. The similarities between it and techno are remarkable, the more that is discovered about each, the more possibilities they reveal. "One Man Spaceship" was constructed to give the listener the experience of navigating through the cosmos. Perpetuated here is electronic music as a guide. Space may frighten you as this gigantic continuum that is detached from you, but you must remember you are a part of it. Poignant, aggressive, but serene sound track created by Jeff Mills for And Then There Was Light, a Japanese film directed by Tatsushi Omori based on the novel Hikari by Shion Miura. The music is an additional character in the scenes, showing the determination of the people and a great sense of loss, agony, and love.
A synopsis of the film: On Mihama, an island off the coast of Tokyo, a middle school student, Nobuyuki, will do anything for his beautiful girlfriend and classmate, Mika. One night, he catches her in the arms of another man. Thinking quickly, Mika responds by pretending that she is being molested and calls for Nobuyuki's help. Nobuyuki naturally obliges and ends up killing the man. But someone witnessed the incident: a young neighbor named Tasuku, who looks up to Nobuyuki. That night, a devastating tsunami hits the island, wiping out most of its residents. All is quiet. Fast forward 25 years later, and Mika has become an actress leading a glamorous life. Nobuyuki, meanwhile, is married to another woman and has a five-year-old daughter. The past appears to have been buried for good, until one day the only witness to the crime, Tasuku, reappears with a vendetta on his mind. First, he seduces Nobuyuki's wife and begins an illicit affair with her. He then sends incriminating evidence of the long-lost crime to Mika. Once again, Nobuyuki finds himself needing to protect Mika.

An elegant musical tour to each one of our planets in the solar system, Holst brought forth imaginary visions of space that would survive many generations and decades after. As an important piece to the classical universe, The Planets is regularly played throughout the world every year as it had been the most vivid translation of our cosmic neighborhood until now. The electronic music artist and producer Jeff Mills, pays tribute to this century of incredible musical production. He embarks on a sonic journey to compose and re-discover our neighboring planets in an 18-piece suite that explores the nine planets, including the portions of space in between the planets, the nine regions Mills calls "Loop Transits". Mills takes the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetics, concept, and model for creativity. From the beginning, his first releases explored futuristic and science fiction topics, and he continues to do so to this day. For Jeff Mills, the future is a powerful creative drive which explains the artist's ceaseless activity. Since its creation and like the intention of Holst, each track is musically imagined to invoke the psychological effect, emotions, and ideas of each planet. But unlike in the year 1918, when the score was first publicly heard on the last week of World War I, 100 years later, there is now a more accurate knowledge about what each planet is made of and what they look like. The piece should bring the audience closer to confronting each planet in ways that audiences in 1918 could only dream of. With the French composer Sylvain Griotto, the arranger of Planets, and Mills's previous work on the album and classical score about the NASA astronaut and doctor Mamoru Morhi's space journey in 1992 and 2000 from the album Where Light Ends (2013), Mills has created an electronic music album that has been translated for symphonic and philharmonic orchestras and will accompany them in their live debut and all performances. Starting to conceptualize and produce music for it dating back to 2005, Mills constantly worked on the project over the years to bring it to fruition. In July 2016, Jeff Mills completed the last production stages of the Planets album at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London.

An elegant musical tour to each one of our planets in the solar system, Holst brought forth imaginary visions of space that would survive many generations and decades after. As an important piece to the classical universe, The Planets is regularly played throughout the world every year as it had been the most vivid translation of our cosmic neighborhood until now. The electronic music artist and producer Jeff Mills, pays tribute to this century of incredible musical production. He embarks on a sonic journey to compose and re-discover our neighboring planets in an 18-piece suite that explores the nine planets, including the portions of space in between the planets, the nine regions Mills calls "Loop Transits". Mills takes the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetics, concept, and model for creativity. From the beginning, his first releases explored futuristic and science fiction topics, and he continues to do so to this day. For Jeff Mills, the future is a powerful creative drive which explains the artist's ceaseless activity. Since its creation and like the intention of Holst, each track is musically imagined to invoke the psychological effect, emotions, and ideas of each planet. But unlike in the year 1918, when the score was first publicly heard on the last week of World War I, 100 years later, there is now a more accurate knowledge about what each planet is made of and what they look like. The piece should bring the audience closer to confronting each planet in ways that audiences in 1918 could only dream of. With the French composer Sylvain Griotto, the arranger of Planets, and Mills's previous work on the album and classical score about the NASA astronaut and doctor Mamoru Morhi's space journey in 1992 and 2000 from the album Where Light Ends (2013), Mills has created an electronic music album that has been translated for symphonic and philharmonic orchestras and will accompany them in their live debut and all performances. Starting to conceptualize and produce music for it dating back to 2005, Mills constantly worked on the project over the years to bring it to fruition. In July 2016, Jeff Mills completed the last production stages of the Planets album at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London.
