Lee Morgan's Vol. 3 is the third album by jazz trumpeter, released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded on March 24, 1957 and features performances by Morgan, Gigi Gryce, Benny Golson, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Charlie Persip. A classic hard bop date on its own, it's the last in a series of sessions that a very young Lee Morgan (barely 18 years old at the time) recorded in 1957, a pivotal year for the American trumpeter, who would sweep the modern jazz scene from then on.

Reissue, originally released on Blue Note in 1957. This is Lee Morgan's second release as a leader. At the time of the recording (1956) Morgan was just 18 and he was already shining like a mature soloist and solid band leader. Another attracting point in this set is that the most of the tracks are composed by the great Benny Golson. A beautiful hard swinging bop session featuring Hank Mobley on tenor, Horace Silver on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, Charlie Persip on drums -- plus the obscure Kenny Rodgers on alto sax. Originally released on Blue Note in 1957, this album stands as a strong early piece in Lee Morgan discography. Clear vinyl.

One of the greatest trumpeters of the post-bop era, Lee Morgan died aged only 33 in 1972. This classic recording was made for FM broadcast in the summer of 1970, immediately before he made his classic 1971 album Live At The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach. Featuring Bennie Maupin (tenor sax), Harold Mabern (piano), Jymie Merritt (bass), and Mickey Roker (drums), it showcases some of the best music Morgan's group ever performed, and is presented here in its entirety, with digitally remastered sound, background notes, and images.

"On trumpeter Lee Morgan's third album for Blue Note, recorded on 24 March 1957, Morgan's sextet - comprised of Gigi Gryce on alto and flute, Benny Golson on tenor, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Charlie Persip on drums - showcases five compositions by sideman Benny Golson. The numbers include the fascinating 'Hassan's Dream' as well as 'I Remember Clifford,' a tribute to the late trumpet player Clifford Brown. Tragically, Morgan (a trumpet player like Brown) himself would also meet with an untimely demise, but in 1957, the nineteen year old Philadelphia native was one of the leading trumpeters on the New York jazz scene and remained so until his death at age 33. One of Morgan's most legendary performances, on John Coltrane's celebrated Blue Train album, would be recorded just a few months after this date." 180 gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. Presented in mono.
