Motion is the new full-length studio album by London-based power-jazz trio of Steve Noble on drums, John Edwards on double bass and Alex Ward on electric guitar. This trio has played together for over a decade and have become one of London's tightest units, locking in and breaking apart with uncanny telepathy and synchronicity. Operating at the junction of free improv and rock, they swing and shred in equal measure. Both modes, and the effortless, deft moves across the spaces between, are represented in fine style on this release. Live, N.E.W. seem to embody the classic power trio -- whether we're talking jazz or rock, it's the power that counts. Alex on guitar contorts wildly, both sonically and physically, thrashing in his chair to the death metal moves in his head, Steve sits rock-steady and immutable at his drum kit, other than his limbs, which form a chaotic blur, producing the most precise of sounds, and John has eyes tight shut and explores, brutalizes, and caresses every facet of his bass. This record is as close as you get to the incomparably exhilarating experience of seeing N.E.W. play live. Beautifully recorded with fine attention to detail, Motion puts you within a headbanging flick of Alex's bouffant hair, within the blast-zone of that power that has shaken the walls many times at all of London's long-standing improv nights, within infectious distance of the evident joy that these three musicians bring to creating this sound, moment by unrepeatable moment. Recorded at Eastcote Studios, London and pressed on heavyweight 180 gram black vinyl in a limited edition of 300. It comes packaged in hand-screenprinted wrap-around sleeves, featuring ancient cave drawings chosen specifically by Steve Noble for this release. The insert features liner notes by Thurston Moore.

This is the third full-length release by N.E.W., the UK jazz power trio of Alex Ward (electric guitar), John Edwards (bass), and Steve Noble (drums/percussion). NEWtoons is the first release in a new series on Bo' Weavil Recordings -- Sidra Edition. Pressed in a limited edition of 300 hand-numbered copies on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl, and housed inside thick, hand-assembled covers. NEWtoons captures the trio in all their live ferocity, potency and inventive group improvisation. Equal measures free improv as avant-rock, these three live tracks reveal the sheer power, attack and total commitment that these musicians have to reaching new heights. As Jazzwise magazine put it, "Ward is phenomenal, all spidery glissandi and slashing chords. Edwards is a dark magus of a bass player thundering against the elements, while Noble is a violent, malevolent presence. If these guys' personalities reflect their playing, you just wouldn't want to find yourself down a darkened alley with them. A white-knuckled ride you'll be glad to take." Pressed in a limited edition of 300 hand-numbered copies on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl, and housed inside thick, hand-assembled covers.

Steve Noble (drums/percussion), John Edwards (bass) and Alex Ward (electric guitar) are N.E.W.. Deadeye Tricksters incorporates language, ritual, myth, and laughter. Play is at the heart of the interaction of these great players. From the opening riff, with Ward's scattergun guitar fizzing around Noble's detonations, the game is on. It's often the element of play in improvised music that prepares the ears for its more profound moments. The skittering of drum and bass gives way, suddenly, to a sonic shriek, a blast that leaves the listener metaphorically pressed against the wall. There are few musical experiences that move from the titillating to the terrifying in such a short space of time. Noble, Edwards, and Ward are experts at the improv game, tooled up, as they are, with sharp musical wits, adroit techniques and almost uncanny powers of perception.
