"Dub companion to the 'five-star' 1978 release, Africa Must Be Free By 1983, this album underscores the relationship be-tween producer Augustus Pablo and performer Hugh Mundell. Pablo's dub productions, mixed by King Jammy form the perfect complement to these classic rhythms and melodies. Re-mastered for release in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Greensleeves label, the album is example of why Augustus Pablo continues to inspire reggae music fans and musicians these decades later."

"Visionary artist Augustus Pablo is among the most important figures in reggae history. Widely credited with popularizing the use of the melodica in reggae, Pablo was a talented musician and an innovative producer who became an early dub pioneer. Now regarded as classics, his memorable 1970s recordings were part of the remarkable creative surge that vaulted the Jamaican music scene to international prominence. Much of this material was released by Rockers, an independent record label founded by Pablo and named after his popular Kingston sound system. Now, Nature Sounds is presents Roots, Rockers, & Dub, a new Augustus Pablo collection celebrating the 50th anniversary of Rockers. Featuring classic dubs along with rare and out-of-print tracks, the album captures Pablo's immense contribution to roots reggae by highlighting a wealth of material spanning his entire career, all released on Rockers. "Thriller is the 1975 album from Augustus Pablo, the reggae visionary who popularized the use of the melodica in the genre. As the founder of multiple labels, he was a crucial part of invigorating the burgeoning dub reggae scene in its early days. The record's warm, mellow sound makes for a breezy and hypnotic listen, perfectly paired with a jazz cigarette. This lost gem has been reissued with updated artwork from D. Norsen, and was pressed at Furnace Record Pressing."

2022 repress. Originally released in 1983, 2017 reissue. "Originally released in 1983 on his own Rockers imprint, Augustus Pablo's King David's Melody collects singles from the years 1975-1982. The liner notes do a good job of pointing out that most of the tracks are considered instrumentals instead of dubs, which only means Pablo's more responsible for the melodies and structures of the songs than usual. The serene, relaxed, and otherworldly feelings of Pablo's dub material is well represented, and to a lesser extent, the trippy twists and turns, but they are more modest and mostly on the bonus tracks. The inspiration for the overall positive and supremely spiritual feel to the collection is right in the title. Rastafarian Pablo is referencing spiritual leader Haile Selassie's claim to be descended from King David, a king of ancient Israel who could sooth the soul with his flute and harp. Pablo does the same here with his melodica and occasional keyboards. The easy-rolling title track, the coolly cheerful 'Mr. Bassie,' and the airy 'Cornerstone Dub' all support the original compilation's King David-by-way-of-Selassie inspiration, but Shanachie's bonus tracks -- as interesting as they are -- only relate to Pablo's original intentions for the collection in that they were singles. 'Hot Milk' is a thin number that finds Pablo messing with a tinny synth and a primitive drum machine, while 'Freedom Step,' 'Israel Dub,' and the 'Mr. Bassie' rework titled 'Jah Strength Ital Step' feel a bit thicker and darker than the rest of the album. None of this ruins the collection by any means, but listeners should do themselves a favor and try the 1983 sequence of the album for a tighter, more focused listen. CD players make it easy, and with the majority of these instrumentals being hard or near impossible to obtain otherwise, Shanachie's reissue of King David's Melody is welcome, tinkering and all."

"1986 began a new era for Augustus Pablo edging his Rockers revolution into the digital age, In his own words it 'mix-up the vibes a little more'. The four Greensleeves albums that form this new collection, (Rising Sun, Rockers Comes East, One Step Dub & Blowing With The Wind), paved Pablo's journey into a revolutionary new age and brought his far east sound to a whole new audience. Recorded at Channel One, Tuff Gong, Dynamic, HC&F & Creative Sound with engineers like Scientist, Soldgie, Phillip Smart & Steven Stanley the hardcore steppers and nyabinghi meditations within were keenly embraced by the new age sound system culture and Pablo backed them up with hugely successful tours of Europe and Japan showcasing many of the tunes included here blended with a selection of his original rockers."

Radiation Roots present a reissue of Moods Of Pablo, a compilation of Augustus Pablo recordings released in 2000. The man known as Augustus Pablo was a visionary, part of an intimate group of creative figures whose approach to reggae music and audio recording have forever changed the shape of popular music in Jamaica, and the echoes of his creative ingenuity have reached far beyond the island's shores. The enigmatic figure will always be most associated with his exceptional skills on the melodica, a plastic toy instrument that is used to teach schoolchildren the rudiments of keyboard melody, but his oeuvre encompassed so much more. In fact, the man was one of Jamaican music's most important record producers, as well as being a session keyboard player of considerable renown. Moods Of Pablo collects some individual moments of Pablo's work which somehow drifted into the orbit of Bunny Lee, a producer with his fingers always in a broad range of musical pies; futuristic cuts of "Queen Of The Minstrel," "Hold On," "Fatty Fatty," "Heart Don't Leap," and "The Drifter" give way to ten thematic roots dubs from King Tubby's studio, each with melodica firmly in place, morphing rhythms such as "Barb Wire," "Everything I Own", and "Miss Wire Waist" into another dimension.

2023 repress; reissue of the 1976 historic collaboration between producer instrumentalist Augustus Pablo and dub engineer King Tubby.
"If you had to pick one album that best represents the pinnacle of the art of dub, you'd cull the candidates down pretty quickly to ten or 12, and it would get very difficult after that. Few would fault you for ending up with this one, though, which stands as perhaps the finest collaboration between two of instrumental reggae's leading lights: producer and melodica player Augustus Pablo and legendary dub pioneer King Tubby. Among other gems, this album offers its title track -- a dub version of Jacob Miller's 'Baby I Love You So'-- which is widely regarded as the finest example of dub ever recorded. But the rest of the album is hardly less impressive. 'Each One Dub', another cut on a Jacob Miller rhythm, possesses the same dark and mystical ambience, if not quite the same emotional energy, as 'King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown,' and the version of the epochal 'Satta Massaganna' that closes the album is another solid winner. Pablo's trademark 'Far East' sound (characterized by minor keys and prominent melodica lines) is predominant throughout, and is treated with care and grace by King Tubby, who has rarely sounded more inspired in his studio manipulations than he does here. Absolutely essential." --Rick Anderson, All Music

Horace Swaby, known as Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer, melodica player, and keyboardist. In addition to popularizing the use of melodica in reggae music he also wrote and produced some of the most well-known and appreciated dub and instrumental reggae records of the 1970s and '80s. This fiery set featuring Augustus Pablo with his High Times Band was recorded live at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California on October 5, 1984 to an appreciative audience of hippies and heads. Radiation Roots presents this beautifully packaged and mastered live roots reggae/dub classic. Originally released in 2014 on Cleopatra. Limited edition yellow vinyl; Edition of 500.

2017 cardboard sleeve edition of Augustus Pablo's Ital Dub, originally released in 1975. This is Augustus Pablo's first collaboration with King Tubby. "Navigating Pablo's back catalogue is a difficult task, since he got his start as an un-credited session player in the late 1960s, mostly working as a keyboardist. Several early singles credited to Augustus Pablo actually featured the work of other players, as the name was randomly assigned by producer Herman Chin-Loy, who first recorded Pablo's melodica tracks. There are also albums bearing his name that feature less-talented imposters. But have no fear when you pick up Ital Dub, a 1974 album produced by Tommy Cowan; it is the real deal, featuring Pablo's cool melodica over some of the best works Cowan ever issued. . . . Nicely straddling the divide between straight instrumental and manipulated dub, Ital Dub is ultimately a snapshot of Augustus Pablo finding his way, on the cusp of greater glory as a bonafide producer of his own works." --David Katz, BBC

Radiation Roots present a reissue of Augustus Pablo's Augustus Pablo At King Tubbys, originally released in 2005. The visionary musician and record producer Augustus Pablo made some of the most unique and individual recordings in the history of reggae. As with his friend and mentor, Jackie Mittoo, the man born Horace Swaby was of mixed Indian and African heritage, and although his middle-class background might have pointed him in a very different direction, the lure of Jamaica's sound system culture captured him at a young age, particularly after debilitating health problems saw him drop out of school. He began recording as a session keyboardist as the '60s gave way to the '70s, but everything changed when a school-friend introduced him to the melodica, a small plastic keyboard operated by a mouthpiece, which he used on seminal recordings for producer Herman Chin-Loy, credited to Augustus Pablo on the release. During the early 1970s, Pablo crafted melodica instrumentals for all of the leading reggae producers, scoring "best instrumental" for "Java" in 1973, and launching the Rockers label to showcase self-produced work at the same time. This multi-faceted compilation, first issued on Bunny Lee's Attack label in 2005, compiles memorable melodica interpretations of some of Lee's greatest productions, recorded over dub cuts of immortal numbers such as Cornell Campbell's "Queen Of The Minstrel" and John Holt's "My Desire".

First time out for this wildly raw version of the Pablo master-rhythm, shot through with other-worldly incantation. Surely, that's Family Man stalking a sunken cavern, and his bro battering all seven shades out of his drum-kit, like Meters on fire. Could be Chinna on guitar, glazed and violent. Producer Gussie Clarke says Theophilus 'Easy Snappin' Beckford is playing piano, with the front removed so he can strum the strings (like he finally snapped). The mixing rears up right in your face. Transferred from acetate - fuss-pots don't grumble, just be humble. The flip brings unmissable alternates from Gussie's tape-room.

"Augustus Pablo (given name Horace Swaby) was born just outside of Kingston. 'I am a Kingstonian,' he told the NME in 1986, 'but my heart is for the hills.' This mystical connection to 'the hills' is at the heart of Pablo's unique and immediately identifiable sound. By the late '60s, Swaby and his brother Dougie had founded a small sound system they called Rockers. The brothers spent a lot of time in record shops, including Aquarius, where owner Herman Chin-Loy heard Swaby experimenting on his melodica and was struck by the inspiration to record. The resulting tune was credited to Augustus Pablo, a name that Chin-Loy invented, as the story goes, to give an air of mystery to the release. Pablo recorded two more singles soon after with 'Java' becoming a major hit and being voted Instrumental Song Of The Year by Jamaica's Swing Magazine. This success led to the Randy's label moving to create a full-length album from Pablo. Recording in the Randy's studio upstairs from the record shop 'we weren't watching the clock...we had the studio,' Clive Chin recalled. The band included a cast of the greatest reggae musicians of all time: future Wailer Tyrone Downie on keyboards, Aston 'Family Man' Barrett, 'Fully' Fullwood and Lloyd Parks on the bass, Carlton Barrett, 'Santa' Davis and Lloyd 'Tin Leg' Adams were on drums and Earl 'Chinna' Smith played guitar. In addition to these future Hall of Famers, the mixing board was helmed by Errol Thompson. Thompson and Chin would together pioneer a tough, new reggae sound that, Chin referred to as 'Rockers' after the Swaby brothers' Rockers Hi-Fi sound system. For this issue three songs contemporary to the first release of This Is... have been added: the original single version of Pablo's hit, 'Java,' and two cuts issued as B-sides to successful Clive Chin-produced records. 'Guiding Red' and 'Marabi.' Augustus Pablo sadly passed away in 1999. 'He was 46,' his obituary stated, 'and lived in the hills outside Kingston,' where his heart belonged. His music has endured and continues to inspire. This Is Augustus Pablo is considered among the greatest collections of Jamaican instrumental music and is an essential part of reggae history."
