"This set gathers together 18 selections from one of jazz's greatest saxophonists, Charlie Parker. All the recordings were captured in the late 1940s and early 1950s at such storied venues as Carnegie Hall and Birdland in New York, The Jubilee in Los Angeles, and the Portland Civic Auditorium. Focused on experiments in Afro-Cuban fusion, Parker is joined by a dazzling array of jazz legends including Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Jackson, Art Blakey, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Red Rodney, and others. The package includes essays by rock keyboardist Keith Emerson and contemporary jazz saxophonist Cory Weeds. While these tracks have previously appeared on other albums, this is the first time they have been gathered in this deluxe package. Available on a limited-edition 180-gram vinyl version for Record Store Day available exclusively at independent retailers. Also available on CD and digital."

"Originally released on Savoy in 1955, very soon after Bird departed this mortal coil, The Genius of Charlie Parker, is a compilation of recordings from 1944-1948 -- a period of particularly profound material from one of jazz's most important artists. Joining the alto saxophonist on these sessions reads like a who's who of jazz greats from Dizzy Gillespie to Max Roach, Bud Powell to Miles Davis. Some of the greatest bebop ever put to tape, lovingly reissued on LP by Doxy."

"This collection of brilliant sides, all recorded in New York City for the Savoy label from 1945-1948, represent the very apex of Charlie Parker's career. Several tracks feature Bird's all-star quintet, with a young Miles Davis (who was just 19 on 'Billie's Bounce' and 'Thrivin' On a Riff') on trumpet, Max Roach on drums and legendary bebop pianist Buddy Powell on piano. Songs like 'Buzzy' and 'Chasin' the Bird' are also particularly significant because they represent some of the only existing recordings of Powell and Bird together." 180 gram vinyl with CD version of the album.

Bird in Time: 1940-1947 is a unique four disc set produced by bebop jazz historian Michael D. Anderson. This set chronicles the early developmental stages of the career of the artist from 1940 to the fall of 1947. This includes his performances in the Jay McShann band, his work as a sideman, collaborations with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, as well as his leadership of various groups. In addition to select recordings, the four disc set includes unique interviews by Mr. Anderson with artists who performed with Charlie Parker, or 'Bird' as they knew him, describing in detail their experiences with him during this period of time. These interviews provide, for the first time, a glimpse into the creative process that was engaged in making these song tracks. This is a 'must have' for serious Charlie Parker music collectors.
