"The received wisdom (at least in America) goes that punk rock was invented in New York by the Ramones, who reconfigured Midwestern hard groove rock and '60s garage singles, into a formula that defined punk: short, fast, catchy, and unstoppable. But in some weird parallel universe, punk might have traced its roots to Rocket from the Tombs, a Cleveland band that lasted less than eight months (1974-75), and never made a studio recording. In those eight months they wrote songs that would become punk anthems: 'Ain't It Fun,' 'Sonic Reducer,' 'Final Solution,' '30 Seconds Over Tokyo,' 'Amphetamine, and they played them like there was no tomorrow. These men are ugly, old, and have not mellowed in any conceivable way. They've devoted their lives to raging against the boundaries, and they have been willing to pay the price." "Strictly limited to one pressing only, the LP version of the new Rocket From The Tombs LP will be a sought after collectable as well as an amazing document of brand new recordings from this longest running proto-punk band. Spawning both the Dead Boys and Pere Ubu, Rocket From The Tombs is the finest of all the mythical Cleveland first wave bands. Sonic Reducer, Final Solution, Ain't It Fun, and 30 Seconds Over Tokyo are all original compositions within the band's repertoire. No other independent rock and roll band can claim such a legacy. Featuring the same lineup as 'Rocket Redux', the LP contains eleven new studio songs, produced by David Thomas at Suma. The band remains: David Thomas, Cheetah Chrome, Richard Lloyd, Craig Bell and Steve Mehlman. The two songs released as a 45rpm earlier this year by Smog Veil, 'I Sell Soul' and 'Romeo & Juliet', have been remixed and partially re-recorded."
