KARLOFF 023EP
|
"His outstanding releases on Telegraph and 7th City are dating back quite a while now, so it's about time for Boogizm boss S-Max to work in the field yet again -- this time for Karloff Rekordings! The positivistic battle called 'Lovebombing' is not just another empty phrase now, but the expression of a naturally grown love for the roots of 'electronic dance music' and the pure joy to praise them masterly in an abstract makeup. S-Max's affinity with for many years, and it sometimes even seems to be part of a life concept -- not least in his recommendable DJ sets. However the guy from Wiesbaden succeeds again and again to put his own twisted, quirky stamp on these weighty influences, while he doesn't waste his time trying to be 'oldschool' in a constrained way. Thus the beats are bouncing casually, bass lines and organs matured in the oak vat create a warm and fuzzy familiarity, and finally the bleeps get along again without effect feedback thunder, and without neglecting their galvanizing purpose."

BOOG 014EP
|
"A-side features Mike Shannon's remix, that's the first time getting any Boogizm-signal on 45 rpm, this interpretation showing his personal strength of gaining danceablity with a personal, funky approach, here quite harmonious, Detroit-y and ready to rock, building up tension slowly and gradually. The B-side is S-Max's tracks on 33 giving another example of his Boogist approach to contemporary club music without losing track of freedom and tradition. 'Taoist Afro Sputniks' features a heavy, bouncey bassline funkin' its way along Detroit-y chords and beats knowing early acid tracks, yet working right here and now. 'Inner Nothingness' rolls quite deep and dubby, rather minimalist and somewhat darker, yet funky and bleepy -- digging and restoring neuronal crossings long forgotten. The EP ends with the first locked groove on Boogizm in ages -- and on and on and on..."

BOOG 008EP

"This is S-max' first solo-artist EP on his own imprint, a 4-tracker showing his personal definitions of contemporary house/Detroity-minimal-whatever... Music! Loaded with his good-acid-trip-cartoon-style, armed with bleep'n'bassline-funk+ bitcrush-soul, here we go deeper into that Boogizm-space, ranging from moody outerworldliness to 'Kick-it!'-disco. Boogizm ventures further into the non-cliché- personal, modern, while maintaining danceablility first class. One half of Boogizm-crew delivers sonic guerilla tactics, erasing mediocre boredom-keeping it playful and free. 'Further proof that club techno with soul is not yet an extinct artform' with collaborations with Daniel Bell/Jay Haze/Ark/DB the Boys widen their field of operation, definitely funkatizing your world."
