Walls, Corridors, Baffles is the debut album of Swiss musician and producer Samuel Savenberg, aka S S S S. Following various releases on Haunter Records, aufnahme+wiedergabe, and Hallow Ground, his LP on Präsens Editionen tries to find an approach to an artistic expression beyond tropes of darkness, harshness, and excess. Thus, the aesthetic of Walls, Corridors, Baffles is radically and uncompromisingly sober. Instead of focusing on a conceptual or symbolic treatment of sound as an abstraction, Savenberg emphasizes its materiality. The album consists of eight pieces strung together into a manifesto which calls for a febrile embrace of an unheard-of, intense sobriety. In Walls, Corridors, Baffles, unadulterated percussive force meets an astoundingly precise and frugal vocabulary of electroacoustic sounds, as for example on the opener "Deserter". Passages extended over long melodies invite the listener to lose oneself in the contrastive emptiness. Central to the work are the affective qualities of the music which lapses only at moments into a more defined emotional quality -- as on the final track "Nothing But The Circulation Of Air". Edition of 300.

Samuel "S S S S" Savenberg is one of the earliest members of the Haunter Records crew, presenting his project through 2014's Administration Of Fear. Since 2015's Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes though (HG 1702LP), Haunter has become the home for his most experimental releases. Absence ventures even further into those same lands: traversed by telluric bass phenomena, over-scaled waves of sound and kinetically charged breakbeats (ripe with processed 808 drums) or crumble into digitized bits. Fellow Swiss producer Gil provides with a remix, combining a slowed-down dembow beat with the doomy electronics of the original.

The multi-channel sound work Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes is the result of Samuel Savenberg's two-week-long artist residency at Lucerne's Südpol in the summer of 2015. Originally available as a small-run cassette release through the Italian Haunter Records imprint (2015), Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes has been carefully mastered for a vinyl issue by Room40 founder Lawrence English. During his residency, Savenberg explored the sonic environment of Südpol, doing field recordings around the building or recording pianos and even another resident, an actor whose fragmented and distorted voice can be heard throughout the two parts that make up Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes. While this particular work does not necessarily explore a theoretical framework like Savenberg's previous releases under his S S S S moniker, it is not to be understood as an experimental piece, but rather an extension of his singular approach to electronic composition. Black and silver cover artwork; Comes as 180 gram vinyl.

Following the successful 2014 tape debut, Administration of Fear, Samuel Savenberg presents the first vinyl release from his highly acclaimed industrial/electronic project S S S S. It immediately becomes clear to the listener that this is no light fare; a distorted beat mercilessly shatters layered vocal samples at tenacious intervals. The term Autopoiesis is not to be understood in the vein of Luhmann's systems theory, but refers instead to its biological meaning -- the sheer self-preservation of life. Found-footage vocal samples of despaired souls and manically impelling beats bear witness to several forms of the struggle to preserve life. Passages of claustrophobic ambience are too urgent and erratic to give the listener any respite, though the epilogue, "Identität III," seems almost conciliatory in its far-reaching expanse. S S S S performs his unique form of industrial music in clubs from Milan to Berlin and Moscow. Fans of Throbbing Gristle, SPK, or Haus Arafna can put their minds at ease; another generation of uncompromising artist is here. Recorded December 2014 and January 2015. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
