AUS 1694EP

Remixes of tracks from Sei A's landmark 2016 album Space In Your Mind (AUS 006LP). Gilles Aiken aka Edward (Giegling) delivers a 13-minute remix of "Ancestors," making use of a palette of tightly clipped drums, spectral vocals, and chilly synth lines for an unearthly landscape. Life and Death label founder DJ Tennis turns in two killer remixes of "Space In Your Mind," taking things in a broodier direction.

Scottish producer Sei A presents his third album, Space in Your Mind. Sei A is Andy Graham, an ever-evolving producer who has cooked up many different shades of house and techno since emerging in 2008. With work that moves from dark and melodic to swinging and bass-heavy, Graham is not one to repeat the same trick twice, as his two previous albums and more than 15 EPs on labels like Turbo, Life and Death, Kompakt, Simple, and Aus Music have shown. As if to cement the point, this full-length finds Graham straying from the dancefloor to cook up an album that stands up to introspective home-listening. "The LP came from writing a lot of music in a short space of time," says Graham. "I felt I had grasped a sound and I wanted to expand it further. Musically I was finding that the material had much more space within the sound, with the main structure of it being melodies, therefore giving it quite a rich feel throughout. I was also aiming to expand on writing actual songs that take in verse/chorus, verse/chorus structures." And he has sure accomplished that, because with the help of guest collaborators Will Samson and Daudi Matsiko on four tracks, Space in Your Mind is an absorbing listen with melodies and vocal lines sure to linger in the listener's memory.

AUS 1581EP
|
Aus Music follows Bicep's Just EP (AUS 1580EP, 2015) with the first contribution to the label since November 2013 (AUS 1354EP) by London-via-Glasgow producer Sei A, who has also released on Turbo, Kompakt, and Hemlock. Fans of "Make It Work" and "Wants" will relish the Gasp EP, as it melds moody, syncopated grooves with nifty vocal snips and capacious breakdowns. The title-track's arresting loop gathers percussive whacks and prowling bass; the sizzling hi-hats of "Never Wander" accompany mournful chords spread over sharp electric bass; the tape-driven texture of "4ME2" unfolds behind rasping bass tones and vast, heart-rending chord shifts.

AUS 1354EP

Aus continues its run of releases with Glaswegian, London-based producer Sei A stepping up to the helm once again, following up his well-received Wants EP. "Make It Work" is a blend of muscular drums, pitched-down vocals and hypnotic synths which pan across the record in on and off rhythms. "I'll Take You There" is definitely from the same gene pool, with its pounding pulse and stark vocals, led this time, however, by an equally energetic mid-range bass line. Breach adds his own unique twist to the package with an inspired remix of the title-track, hollowing out the center and building it up with patience on his more extended interpretation.

KOM EX071EP
|
Sei A, native Glaswegian, now resides in London, immersing himself in the hybrid house, firm techno and bass-heavy scenes that happily co-exist within the UK's capital. He's well-known to paint vivid and emotional sonic pictures that touch on rather more considered house and bass tropes, prizing feeling over fads and staging an impressive balancing act between hardcore beat science and lush, moody arrangements. This 12" is no different, featuring two stellar examples of Sei A's stylistic reach, rave stabs included.

TURBO 029CD
|
Originally released in 2010. Sei A aka Andy Graham is one of the most promising producers from the new Glasgow scene. His debut album Editing Shadows (2008) earned him the respect and support of a wide range as his sound is influenced by dubstep, deep house as well as techno, filled with rich textures, moody atmospheres, subtle psychedelia and haunting vocals. Add to that an instinctual gift for melody and the romantic character of his vocal flourishes, and one gets a clearer picture of why Sei A is attracting such admiration as a producer, performer and remixer. Having been commissioned by Booka Shade, Jori Hulkkonen and Tiga, among others, Sei A has also remixed such artists as Terence Fixmer and Azari & III. White Rainbow is front-loaded with a pair of harder-edged tracks but opens up to reveal an impressive range of music -- from the two-step UK bass-fest of "Who Dares Wins," the shimmering lead of "Out Of Reason," the Aphex-like pads in "Star Of Stealth," through the beautiful ambient interludes to the Burial-like dubstep finale of "Meth II," this is a record that rewards repeat listening.

TURBO 115EP
|
This EP from Sei A snaps things back onto a futuristic grid of bass-driven club madness. "Break The Pattern" is a techno zap-fest featuring a killer hook, precision, laser-cut drums and a rough, rolling groove. "Flux" blends retro video game sounds with vocal samples, laid out against a psychedelic cha-cha rhythm. This one received early support from Martyn who weighs in with a strong remix, driving the 8-bit riff into a frenzy, backed by iron-clad beats bouncing atop a megaton sub. Guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

TURBO 113EP
|
Sei A's latest release finds the Scottish producer fully immersed in the forward-thinking UK electronic scene, splitting the difference between the worlds of underground techno and legit songwriting. The title-track balances emotive synths and sculpted vocal samples that flow languidly over a skittish beat. "Starjar" starts in a similarly tranquil vein before expanding into an ominous cosmic synthstorm. Midland toughens up the beats and pushes the track squarely toward the dance floor, while Youandewan creates a vertiginous downbeat ambience.
