TURBO 219EP
|
Turbo Recordings present a 12" vinyl release of Tiga's trance pilgrimage to the center of your personal space, There Is No Distance Between Us. Co-produced by Tiga and on-again/off-again musical life partner Jesper Dahlback, the track was originally released digitally as a B-side to the Tiga mega-hit "Easy" and is now available in its glorious physical manifestation with an insane after-hours techno remix from Paris producer u.r. trax, perhaps the first Turbo artist with a Master's Degree in something other than Comparative Tiga Studies. "Yeah, I'm back up in your area," says Tiga from atop the rock-climbing wall inside his virtual panic room. "Something just didn't sit right with me about this track not existing on the material plane. Here I am singing about human connection and not giving you something you can hold in your filthy hands? Anyone who knows me knows I hate hypocrisy, so I had to make things right, vinyl-style. If I could make the world's problems go away by pressing records, I would. And I can, so I will. This is only the beginning."

Turbo Recordings present he latest from executive honcho Tiga, a massive ode to passive-aggressive income remixed by Héctor Oaks, Der Zyklus, and Decius. "No one wants to work their body anymore," says the Montreal merrymaker from atop a throne in the exact shape of a digital wallet. "I get it. Who wants their surplus sweat equity vacuumed up off the dance floor by corporate parasites when the real future's in decentralized skanking? But that's why people in my position -- the top one-percent in terms of nightlife and hospitality take-home pay -- have to offer real benefits to risking it all in the clubs. I'm talking dance-move insurance, competitive drink ticket packages, and -- most of all -- the kind of brick-and-mortar bangers Rhythm Nation was founded upon back in 1814." While gratingly content with the original version, Tiga has nonetheless chosen to flood the marketplace of ideas with a plurality (three) of voices he feels will optimally position this release in today's unforgiving neo-centrist landscape. This stunning grassfed vinyl 12" opens with a remix by Berlin-based vinyl-only DJ Héctor Oaks, who has been described as "operating at the absolute vanguard of rave." Please remember that describing people this way is basically injecting them with Imposter Syndrome. The release also features a remix by Der Zyklus, an alias of Gerald Donald, the epochal genius from Drexciya, Dopplereffekt, Japanese Telecom, Abstract Thought, Zerkalo, Zwischenwelt, and many other fantastic projects. Finally, Decius closes out the EP with all the British mischief you might expect from UK luminaries from Trashmouth Records, Fat White Family, and Paranoid London. "I've designed my entire life around the concept of ease," adds Tiga. "I never wanted to work for a law firm. I wanted to make beats for a law firm. I've always been self-employed, and that why my street cred's off the street charts. And I've let as much of that freedom trickle down to the audience as I can. Because when it comes to music, there's no such thing as an acceptable minimum wage. You gotta know that you gotta give it all you got or you're gonna get got."

Bugatti. Another irresistible one-liner on the dancefloor that can't be missed or forgotten. So much sex and attitude, so few elements. A staccato kick-snare rhythm, a robo-funk synth line, a futuristic pad, a detuned ride, a cheeky vocal hook and a one-note acid line that brings it all together. That's it. All you need if you know what you're doing and have an experienced pair of Canadian Electro-godfather balls intact. Tiga has made a career out of being catchy: from "Sunglasses" to "Mind Dimension", from "Plush" to "Pleasure From the Bass", from "You Gonna Want Me" to "Let's Go Dancing". How does he do it?? It's his ability to drop a clever turn of phrase that separates him from the pack, but the strength and character of his production choices keep things clear of kitsch and make him a perennially hot-tipped cool-commodity everywhere from the great American EDM stage to the hallowed-haus of Panorama's deep underground credibility. His career is like a Veyron -- stable and insane. So listen to it, get it stuck in your head. This track is crazy dope, it doesn't sound like anyone else, and it's the most hip-hop thing all you house DJs are likely to fit into your sets this weekend so go on, get loose and take it for a ride. 12"-only remixes by Perth Drug Legend, Cliff Lothar, and Rebolledo.

Woke is Tiga's third release so far in 2017, and was recorded at Montreal's Lost Star Studios before he returned to Ibiza for the summer. He started 2017 with Eye Luv U (TURBO 188EP), his first new material since 2016's Blondes Have More Fun, and the track that marked his return to Turbo Recordings. April saw Tiga vs Audion's Nightclub EP (TURBO 190EP), the third collaborative release from Tiga and Matthew Dear, and the follow-up to their mega-hit "Let's Go Dancing" and the micro-hit "Fever". Woke features remixes by Vakkuum, Eduardo De La Calle, and Justin Cudmore.

Tiga is back to tell you what you've always needed to hear with Eye Luv U. Co-produced by one half of Paranoid London, the single harnesses all the pure source energy of what enlightened club-goers describe as their favorite emotion. Scottish talent Jasper James darkens the tone on his remix, which would not be out of place at a classic off-the-grid warehouse rave. Butch's equally great "80's Warehouse Acid Remix" also lays claim to that warehouse, challenging what it means to be "warehouse" in an age when corporations pay people to throw parties in what used to be underground settings.

Tiga is a pioneer of Canadian electronic music. His original single Make Me Fall In Love oozes with groovy-ness. It's remixed here by Edu Imbernon and Prosumer. The new remix from Edu Imbernon is clean, lean and punchy - Edu comes through with the deepness while maintaining a certain degree of energy that he has become known for in his latest productions. A delightful, almost ethereal mixture of synth and vox takes this jam deep into the night and is bound to become an Ibiza closing anthem.

Turbo overlord Tiga unleashes his hit single "Plush" on 12" vinyl, featuring remixes by I:Cube and Jacques Lu Cont. This hit was co-produced by Matthew Dear, starting as a freeform jam session and ending as something that works equally well as an underground club anthem. I:Cube gets all French with the original, tweaking out an acid blackout soundtrack. Meanwhile, Lu Cont draws on his alleged stint as Madonna's choreographer to pump up the tempo for the biggest rooms you could possibly imagine.

"This release is the latest in a series of remix 12-inches from Tiga's 2009 album Ciao!, featuring some of the most respected and sought-after producers in dance music taking on the most respected and sought-after icon in dance music. 'Gentle Giant (featuring James Murphy and Jake Shears)' remixes by Martyn, Efdemin and Mathew Jonson. 'When a song means a lot to you personally, having it remixed is a lot like sending your child to undergo plastic surgery,' says Tiga. 'In this case, though, it was like having the operation performed by doctors you respect as musicians. This is most likely my favorite track off Ciao!, and the response I've gotten from fans seems to suggest I'm not alone. They come up to me and say, 'Tiga, that was an amazing game of racquetball, but the real reason I'm here is to tell you how much 'Gentle Giant' means to me.' And it's not uncommon for my sports goggles to fill up with salty blue Gatorade tears, mainly because I thought we had been playing squash. Some may claim that the remixes on this release are too diverse, that they strain the acceptable boundaries of what's eclectic and what's too hectic to sex with. And to that I say, "You can't shame the Rebel, dog. You can't even try.'"

"Tiga continues his series of remix 12"s for songs from his 2009 album Ciao! The ambitious project features some of the most respected and sought after producers in dance music. 'For these remixes, I looked to Titans. Standing on the roof of my greenhouse, I called out, 'Hey you, get off of that impossible cloud and into my car. We're gonna drive all night 'til we hit Remix City!'' Overtime Remixes by Adam Beyer and Jesper Dahlback and Motor City Drum Ensemble. 'These producers represent four sides of the commemorative dance coin. To me, variety is that spicy element that seasons the living of our very lives.' Tiga could not be more excited about these vinyl releases, and wants nothing more than fans to share in his enthusiasm. 'If you purchase all four, I will write your name and credit card information in a special leather-bound book. Also, one copy will include a silver ticket, which you can trade in for a golden ticket. Which does nothing. I'm a dreamer. I see the world through groove-colored glasses, ever watching the horizon for the whole world to come dancing into my arms.'"

"Beep Beep Beep. Remix Remix Remix! On the A-side, the Loco Dice Dub is a perfect set-builder, one of his best remixes to date. Purist Loco fans might also be happy to hear that Tiga's vocal has been 99% extracted from this version, leaving behind only the echo of disco-pop in a solid, DJ-friendly groove. Kaine's mix keeps things closer to the original, emphasizing the pop punch-lines with staccato beeps and a chunky beat. Positive vibes here from a bright young UK producer. Finally, space-disco maestros Emperor Machine turn in another epic roller complete with a brilliant analog synth jam finale. Great job! Ciao!"

"Tiga's new album Sexor is one of the most eagerly awaited debut albums for ages. This is a unique proposition. Early reactions to the record have been electric. Described in some quarters as the 'male Goldfrapp' in waiting, Sexor finds Tiga in spine-tingling form. Tiga sings on every track. Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters sings on a couple too. Taking inspiration from some of the world's filthiest underground night spots, Sexor lives up to its title. Sexor is a dirty beast of a record that sucks pleasure from the bass and a whole lot more...The album's foundation song is 'Pleasure From The Bass'. Suitably inspired, Tiga began to think about making his long-awaited album. Being a well-connected, internationally-renowned, ambitious sort, he was never going to play it straight. Tiga would record half of his album in Ghent with Stephen and David Dewaele of Belgian band Soulwax (aka occasional mash-up kings 2 Many DJs), and half in Stockholm with Swedish techno producer Jesper Dahlbäck. The result is a hugely satisfying listen. Free-roaming but coherent, thumpingly invigorating without sounding samey, full of beats and tunes, electronic music that rocks. Album opener '(Far From) Home' sets the tone with its wonderfully unique pop feel. The moody, twinkling city-after-dark feel of 'Ballad Of Sexor' is another case in point. 'Good As Gold' is one of the first songs Tiga did with the Soulwax brothers. 'I wanted to make an old Italian disco record, and it was really exciting to do that.' He had also some fun with Talking Heads' 'Burning Down The House'. After years of excursions and diversions, Tiga has knuckled down, pulled in all his experiences, and crafted a brilliant, 14-song set."
