From the artists: "Nothing untoward happened. Actually, that's not true, many unexpected things happened that can't really be described, not in words at least. Maybe communicated in a look, through touch or some kind of psychic pulse. Nobody got hurt though, quite the opposite. If you'd passed us by you wouldn't have noticed anything. We keep a low profile. We might have seen you. We might have see you in your entirety or perhaps a silhouette, a glimpse of an essence. On the other hand, at that point we might not have understood what existence means. Or we might have understood all of it at the same time. Your passing by being merely a brief glimmer in a torrent, a miniscule fluctuation. For all intents and purposes imperceptible. That's OK. We lost some details, we left soft debris in our heads, to be arranged and processed later on. We knew what we saw and felt and we'll know it again when we return. None more real. We were pinned to the earth and free to go anywhere we wanted. Anywhere, if we dared. We walked through lands suddenly divined, then everything faded away."

Double LP version. "Gonzen, uminari or retumbos. Perhaps you've heard these sounds? They're known to occur all over the world and, as one might expect, humans have strained to offer various explanations for these unsettling emissions that materialize unbidden from the sky. We like to say that we've understood what's happening so that we can move on. Tidy up the loose ends and don't scare the horses. Nothing wrong with that in good measure, but there's something to be said for the Haudenosaunee peoples' explanation. They pointed out that the Great Spirit hasn't finished their work of shaping the earth and is making a fair bit of noise while they're at it. If you accept that many questions never truly get answered, in fact can or should never truly be answered, you may be able to tune your mind to this collection of lingering sonic detonations. If you accept that the work is ongoing, our labors seldom done, that there's not much point talking about the end of anything, you may be ready to join us. Double LP version. Not approved by the FDA "Like La Monte Young and The Incredible String Band stuck in an elevator." In the process of relocating to Den Bosch's Willem Twee Studios, The Transcendence Orchestra let love slip deftly out of its gate and reverberate around the walls of the studio's main hall, a high ceilinged former synagogue in the city's old town. Working intensively to capture its echoes, they coaxed it to appear in pipes and strings, directed it through resonant circuits and shepherded it round the room with beaters, horns, and rattles. Having returned home with the recordings, a purpose began to emerge. Through a process of extensive reconfiguration and testing it became clear that the love contained within could transform perception. Under the right circumstances, and accompanied by appropriate technology, it could serve as a map for navigating beginnings and endings. Like some distant mesmerizing chant or a psychedelic folk song, it could connect us and reassure us that we can pass through the boundaries and survive. Perhaps not intact but at least whole. Here is that map, love soaked diligently into its lines, ready to guide those at a loss or reassure those willing to explore.

The title of the debut album from The Transcendence Orchestra outlines the modus operandi of this pairing of Anthony Child and Daniel Bean. Recorded in a remote English rural setting over a period of 24 hours, this is an apt location for a recording that eschews time and space in favor of methodological displacement and deep psychological navigation. Modern Methods For Ancient Rituals is an experiment in acoustic and synthetic symbiosis which is deeply influenced by the atmosphere and acoustics of the rural location of Cats Abbey resulting in a set of recordings which can aid to the transformation of consciousness. Deploying a range of ancient and modern instruments and effects, including Buchla Music Easel, harmonium, shruti box, bass guitar, hurdy gurdy, Electro Harmonix 45000, Strymon Blue Sky, and Roland RE 101 Space Echo, among others, Child and Bean conjure an audio experience which encapsulates elements of drone, trance, pulse, rhythm, and melody, subtly shifting all into a psychologically penetrating experience beyond the aesthetic and into the comforting unknown.
