Brothers Wolfgang and Reinhard Voigt are rightly considered main initiators of Kompakt's aesthetic, with the prolific output ranging from anti-beat science to richly layered ambient studies or dry-witted techno anthems. As a duo, Voigt & Voigt have been responsible for some of Kompakt's most notorious releases. For Speicher 99, they present crisp belter "Sanfte Grüsse", embroidering a stoic shuffle with mysterious, pitch-happy synth motives. On the flipside lives the post-industrial "Durchdringung", a pulsating soundscape reveling in metallic noises and hypnotic feedback loops. These cuts serve as a powerful reminder of the series' roots in rough-and-ready techno with a twist.

For Speicher 82, brothers in crime Voigt & Voigt deliver two mind-altering doses of psychotropic techno, squeezing utmost impact out of the most minimal arrangements. The bold and twitchy A-side "Superpitch" does exactly that: riding the pitch, and riding it hard. Its incessantly morphing bell sounds are screwing with your sensory inputs, making you easy prey for the cut's simple and effective beat 'n' bass patterns. However, the secret show-stopper of this release might actually be the flipside's aptly-named cut "Supertrip" -- a dramatic, string-laden techno journey that starts with a spartan, but heartily grinding bass line and soon evolves into a fully-fledged synth-stomper.

It's when Voigt & Voigt gather in the same studio that the sparks start to fly dangerously low within this unique machinery humbly named Kompakt, resulting more often than not in a rather unlikely combination of separate elements suddenly kickstarting into communication. For their debut full-length Die Zauberhafte Welt Der Anderen, the Voigt brothers draw from a plethora of influences to build an incomparable sound world, for the first time fully realizing what previous, now classic tracks on Speicher have been hinting at. Produced side by side with the essential techno of Erdingertrax, this album opts for a strong psychedelic narrative, brilliantly showcasing Voigt & Voigt's experimental inclinations while knowing a thing or two about the perfect groove. Marrying the more cerebral aspects of techno science with the sheer will to party, the Voigtian output is an unpredictable, but constant fixture in Kompakt's back catalog that brings together the distinctive talents of brothers Wolfgang and Reinhard Voigt. With each one being a highly prolific artist in his own right, the joint work on their album debut never ceased to surprise even its originators, who used the twilight of their nightly studio sessions to process a shared stream of auditive consciousness feeding on influences as diverse as techno and New German cinema. Full of nods to specific movie and TV esthetics, Voigt & Voigt's Die Zauberhafte Welt Der Anderen references the higher and lower brows of auteur film culture already in its name, where widely known French alternative comedy Die Zauberhafte Welt Der Amelie and Oscar-winning German drama Die Welt Der Anderen find themselves forming a truly odd couple. It's an unusual combination, but it works.

Both sides of this new Speicher edition will surprise listeners with its unorthodox arrangements. "Synthesize" hypnotizes with a persistent '80s vocal loop that moves over some kind of industrial bridge, then sways on a disco house loop into nirvana. "Idolize" sounds more like noble-trance, starting with a dark chord bass/piano riff and then climbing over a Klaus-Schulze-like sequencing ladder into the heaven of rave-bliss. A warm summer rain on the beach of Ibiza in the '70s.

Kuhglocken. Bergkristalle. Alpendisko. Schweiztechno.

"There is a new term going around cologne: abspeichern! - friendly beckoning to Frankfurt where they have been heavily pumping for quite a while now, Kompakt sends out a new racer: it's hard but it's fair. It's simple but two- to three-dimensional. But above all, it's rocking as if there wasn't a tomorrow. Following the hot predecessors by M. Mayer, Superpitcher and the brothers Voigt, it's now time for the 5th push -- again released by the brothers voigt: Reinhard Voigt -- also called 'the kompakt animal' due to his most successful live performances in Germany and abroad -- at his best regarding pressure and hardness. His track 'Dorn' is a pitbull with knacking acid sounds. Wolfgang Voigt, in contrast, comes up with 'Vision 03'. A real jewel where he concentrates the very beginnings of 'Roxy'/Speicher 3 to a so far unknown mutation of disco music and which, if played at the right time, exhibits an tremendous emotional power. The tempo is sexy, the sound like a soft stone. A kaleidoscope of colours. And the world is plunged in a light of hope and a better tomorrow. May the planet keep on dancing. But with a vision...."
