2015 release. Bristol-born Chris Cole returns to his Manyfingers project for the first time since 2005 with the project's innovative, diverse third album. Cole, who has collaborated with Matt Elliott (on The Dark (IDA 071CD, 2010) by The Third Eye Foundation) and was a member of Numbers Not Names, showcases his eclectic style in the depth and scope of The Spectacular Nowhere. Incorporating minimal composition, experimental music, the avant-garde, moments of pop dynamism, and cinematic pieces, the work nods to Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and Moondog ("Ode to Louis Thomas Hardin"), while also making more pop-based references to Hood and Portishead. The Spectacular Nowhere invites the listener into a world of aural intrigues -- some bittersweet, some melancholic, and others full of joy and wonder. Features vocals and lyrics from the legendary David Callahan (Moonshake, The Wolfhounds), whose modernist urban fables touched by cynicism lend the album a quintessentially British black humor. Eclectic and uncompromising, The Spectacular Nowhere is a deeply rewarding album in which Cole confirms his status as a composer.
