Then Sand - Ludwig Papenberg and his brother Ullrich, and Johannes Vester - developed a more avant-gardist, proto-industrial, visionary experimental approach, a truly unique entity in the history of music. Not dependent on a classical "krautrock" style, Sand is nevertheless part of this movement of German cosmic/psychedelic bands, as well as being the originators of proto-industrial music. Golem, originally released in 1974, is a legendary album from the cosmic and psychedelic genius that is Sand. Factory-noise, riveting hammers from the dockyards, agricultural machines, starfighters low-level flights, land maneuver by the British Forces in the mountainous countryside along the winding river were the culture medium for extended sound aesthetics.
