"Like a fruit ripened away from sight, Sudden Fruit embodies the subtle magic that arises when two singular artists converge. This album is the result of a rare musical encounter between Japanese composer and pianist Midori Hirano and Russian-born experimentalist Ivan Pavlov, known as COH. Their collaboration bridges the organic and the synthetic, unfolding in a sonic space where time seems to hover -- neither blooming nor fading, but suspended in introspective grace. Midori Hirano, now based in Berlin, is known for her minimalist compositions that gently fuse acoustic piano with ambient electronic textures. Reminiscent of Ryuichi Sakamoto's later works, her music deconstructs classical traditions to reveal deeply meditative soundscapes. Under the alias Mimicof, she further explores more beat-driven territories, from ambient techno to IDM. COH, a long-standing figure in avant-garde electronic music, brings decades of sonic experimentation to the collaboration. Formerly an acoustic engineer in the Russian navy, Pavlov's work ranges from glitch and post-techno to ambient and electroacoustic. His partnerships with Peter Christopherson (COIL), Cosey Fanni Tutti, and Abul Mogard speak to his collaborative fluidity and precision. From the opening track 'Wave to Wave,' the album gracefully balances Hirano's emotive piano with Pavlov's subterranean frequencies. 'Mirages' slows time to a hush, while the title track nudges toward IDM. Throughout, Sudden Fruit reveals an uncanny sense of narrative, a dialogue between textures, gestures, and silences. Part of the Mind Travels collection, the album eludes classification. It is a work of quiet daring -- intimate yet expansive, cerebral yet emotional.
