"The versatile Dee Jay Cocoe has been performing in the Californian music scene for over a decade through his Abstract Workshop hip-hop collective, performing beside megastars The Black Eyed Peas, and alongside DJs such as Mark Farina, Little Louie Vega and Joe Claussell. Always conscious and ever soulful, Cocoe has finally graced Immigrant with one of his deepest house trax to date. So genuine the track, Jay Haze and Cadenza's Alejandro Vivanco were chomping at the bit to remix it. Together with Long Beach vocalist Mukwenda, this EP blends house and techno genres, appeasing both dancefloor and listening sensibilities. A1 - 'Webale' (Fuckpony Remix) -- Jay Haze has been unstoppable of late and it's under his Fuckpony alias that we asked him to transform Cocoe's loose rhythms and Mukwenda's African chants into a dancefloor smasher. The deservedly long mix delivers a hypnotic and tribal groove of bass, drums and synths that mutate, squelch and reverberate throughout the mix. Haze makes great use of the vocals, utilizing them frequently to cut through the mix, with tripped-out delays and creative editing. B1 - 'Webale (Alejandro Vivanco Remix)' -- the Cadenza cohort and Chilean native balances out the EP with a tripped-out tribal groover. Vivanco's Latin roots are at work in this remix, delivering a peak time mix within a framework of organic drums and hypnotic atmospherics."
