"In the fifties, the influence of Indian music on the West manifested itself in the work of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Eric Dolphy and Ornette Coleman: pioneer jazz musicians of a golden generation who were fascinated by its form and how it worked as a model of improvisation, the skill that lay at the heart of their own art. A decade later, it took the Beatles to catapult Indian music to the forefront of public awareness and make the sound of the sitar a common feature of popular culture in the West. Their engagement with the ancient classical music of the subcontinent started an avalanche of similar experiments in the rock and pop world, engendering what Ravi Shankar called 'the Sitar Explosion'. For a while, the sitar or some other element from Indian music was increasingly heard in the background of general texture of recordings by many famous British groups: the Rolling Stones, Traffic, Kinks, Yardbirds, to name but a few, while musicians working in the domestic folk-rock field such as Pentangle, the Incredible String Band, and the guitarist Davy Graham also picked up on it. In the United States, aspects of Indian music would be absorbed both by such psychedelic bands as The Byrds, The Doors, Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane and by composers of new music, the minimalists: Terry Riley, La Monte Young, Steve Reich and Philip Glass. But Western fascination with Orientalism was not entirely new; its piquancy is evident in the works of such impressionists as Claude Debussy, Benjamin Britten and Maurice Ravel, a composer considered to be the father of Exotica, whose sound world is at the heart of the works of Exotica's most formidable icons, Les Baxter and Martin Denny. This presentation comprises key recordings by major Western jazz, exotica and classical artists under the spell of Indian music and culture, combined with the long, perfumed recordings by Ravi Shankar and his Indian contemporaries which most influenced them."

Warehouse find, last copies. "Formerly of '60s US psych-folk band Euphoria, Roger & Wendy financed this privately pressed album for family and friends in 1971. They later renamed themselves Bermuda Triangle (their 1977 album recently reissued). This $900+ rated album is the rarest of the lot and is a top notch collection of psych-folk gems. A superb artifact from the early '70s US underground psych folk scene. Taken from the original master tapes, and using the original sleeve artwork, this is a strict limited edition of 450 copies pressed on virgin DMM vinyl.'

"For the first time ever, here's an official reissue of Peter Howell/John Ferdinando's soundtrack of the film Tomorrow Come Someday from 1970. Like Alice, only a handful of copies were made back then, and this is now a £1000-plus mega bucks item. From the musicians who made the legendary Agincourt and Ithaca albums, here is the second album that this duo made. The short film was given a limited release at the time, and the folk flavor throughout the soundtrack feature male and female vocals. This superb reissue has come from the original master tapes, directly transferred by Peter Howell himself from the original machine that recorded the album! A strictly limited edition of 500 copies only on deluxe DMM vinyl, shrinkwrapped and stickered."

First readily available reissues of these Spriguns' albums from the mid-70s, offiically licensed from Decca UK. Classic British folk rock output, for fans of Steeleye Span/Maddy Prior, Sandy Denny, Annie Briggs, etc. "Originally issued on Decca 1977. Only available on CD in Japan prior to this release." "It's a pity that Time Will Pass marked the end of Sprigun's major label days -- punk and new wave were culling all but the most profitable folk and prog bands from most label rosters by this time -- for it stands up against the other Brit-Folk of its time from far better known bands including Steeleye, Fairport, Pentangle, Strawbs and the rest." -- Jaeger.
