"Save Yourself is the debut solo album from rapper/producer ELUCID, New York's best-kept secret. He's worked with some of indie hip-hop's most celebrated artists, like Open Mike Eagle, Tanya Morgan, billy woods, Beans from Antipop, milo, J*Davey, Busdriver, Small Professor, and Rob Sonic. ELUCID has released critically-acclaimed collaborative projects as Armand Hammer with billy woods, and as Cult Favorite, with A.M Breakups, but Save Yourself represents a new chamber from a breakthrough artist. The album is largely self-produced with additional production by Willie Green, A.M. Breakups, Messiah Musik and more. This deluxe reissue features Save Yourself as a double LP 12" with grey marble colored vinyl in a gatefold jacket with photography by Alexander Richter. Side A/B is the main version and C/D is the instrumentals."

"Decay, the new album from New Jersey rapper Fatboi Sharif and producer Steel Tipped Dove, is an anomaly. In an era of microwave projects and email collaborations, the duo spent more than a year writing, recording and mixing Decay together in Dove's Brooklyn studio. At a moment when many independent hip-hop projects are sonically predictable, easily categorized, and derivative, Decay is unapologetically experimental. Love it or hate it, it doesn't sound like any other record out. Add to all that the fact that, bucking the trend of feature-laden rap records, there isn't a single guest appearance on Decay. This album is a one-of-one, handcrafted from the ground up by two of the genre's most esoteric artists, under the umbrella of indie rap's preeminent record label. In October 2020 Dove got in touch with Sharif after hearing Gandhi Loves Children, Sharif's project with Roper Williams. 'I really liked the experimental writing he was doing. The whole vibe was different from the beat choices, the visuals, the lyrics -- all unique,' Dove explains. The two of them linked up and hit it off immediately. 'In the first session we had made two songs that ended up being some of the best work on the album,' Sharif says, 'and as we worked on it we knew we had something special that we weren't hearing anywhere else and we kept building on that' Sharif found himself digging deeply in order to write, which he credits to Dove's attention to detail and ability to push the boundaries sonically. 'Dove's production kept me in the zone to touch on stories that I never touched on in my past work, from personal situations tucked away that I thought I wasn't ready to unveil yet, to convos we just would have regarding the state of everything going on in the world and beyond' For his part, Dove was consistently impressed by the young artists' dedication, as well as his ear for the unusual. 'It was almost like a challenge to him, if I had a beat that no one had chosen, or that had kinda strange timing, he would almost always choose that one' This is Koyaanisqatsi via Rahway, New Jersey. A winding nighttime drive along the narrow, rutted paths of a damaged psyche, dead deer watching from the roadside. Decay is a candlelit spades game in the parlor of a dilapidated mansion, eviction papers pasted atop one another on the front door. A black Woodstock in the wetlands, blotter acid in the headband, as ELUCID might say. Together, Sharif and Dove just flipped on the power to a carousel in the middle of an abandoned amusement park, and every horse has a rider, spinning and spinning in the dark."

"Curly Castro's new album Little Robert Hutton is a paen to the radical imagination. Over the course fourteen songs, the Bajan-American artist fuses his vivid wordplay with a historical continuum of black revolutionary thought and the result is an Afro-Futurist vision in 3-D IMAX. This is Castro's rawest and most uncompromising work, the heat from a thousand ghetto uprisings smoldering in every bar. Lyrical gymnastics take a backseat to the power of the word and the concussive energy of the beats. Little Robert Hutton is hard in every sense of the word, speaker rattling banger after banger. That production is handled by Quelle Chris, Messiah Musik, Blueprint, August Fanon, Locust, DOS4GW, and Jason Griff. The album also features guest appearances from Breezly Brewin, Mr. Lif, PremRock, billy woods, Zilla Rocca, Marcus Pinn, ALASKA, SKECH185, Candice Murray, and Margel the Sophant."

"An alloy is a mixture of chemical agents which forms a new substance that retains the characteristics of a metal. The mechanical properties of alloys often differ significantly from those of its individual constituents. It has been more than two years since ShrapKnel's debut album, during which time the duo of Curly Castro and PremRock have individually released successful solo albums with Backwoodz Studioz. Fittingly, these two albums were nothing alike; Castro's incendiary Little Robert Hutton is a high octane soundclash, a stark contrast to the knotty intimacy of PremRock's Load Bearing Crow's Feet. A new ShrapKnel album means a return to foundry and forge, the alchemy of turning two into one. Carbon and Iron make steel, rest assured, there will be no sophomore slump. Metal Lung is the evidence. The bulk of the production is provided by Steel Tipped Dove, who has worked with Nosaj, billy woods, SHIRT, R.A.P. Ferreira and just put out an incredible album of his own on Backwoodz last year (Call Me When You're Outside). Additional production comes from Child Actor (ELUCID, Serengeti, Armand Hammer) & Olof Melander (Moor Mother, Project Mooncircle). Mixed and mastered by the incomparable Willie Green."

"I Told Bessie is the third solo album from New York City rapper/producer Chaz Hall aka ELUCID. The title is a reference to his paternal grandmother, Bessie Hall, a powerful presence in his life until she passed away in 2017. From childhood afternoons running around her apartment in the Red Hook projects, to living under the same roof in Crown Heights when he was a young man, Bessie was an axis on which Hall's family turned. 'I remember her silver afro like a halo atop her head. I remember the Westerns that were always on television in the living room. I remember. I remember her pouring early ideals of Black consciousness into me. I remember the stories and lore,' ELUCID says. While best known as one-half of critically acclaimed duo Armand Hammer, ELUCID has also built an impressive resume of other collaborations and side projects over the past decade: Small Bills with multi-instrumentalist producer The Lasso (Mello Music), Nostrum Grocers with R.A.P. Ferreira (Ruby Yacht), Dirtee Deacon with Von Pea (Blonde Medicine), and self-produced experimental work like Valley of Grace, Bernadette, and Seership. His debut LP Save Yourself dropped in 2016 on Backwoodz Studioz and still holds up as one of the best releases in I Told Bessie like a culmination. 'I was staying with Bessie in Crown Heights, still early in my music journey -- probably leading through the Progress mixtape and up to the Smash & Grab days -- and she'd hear me scream rap into a closet at all hours of the day and night. We would read the newspaper and talk shit about Mayor Bloomberg and the NYPD. It was a pivotal time in my life and she was an important part of that, even just by letting me live there.' I Told Bessie features guests Pink Siifu, Quelle Chris, and billy woods. The album's production is handled by Child Actor, The Alchemist, P.U.D.G.E., Sebb Bash, The Lasso, Kenny Segal, August Fanon, and Messiah Musik. It's an impressive roster of producers, all of whom add something to the hard-hitting funk of this record's ever-warping sonics. Add to that the talents of engineer Willie Green, who helped build this from the ground up. Every song was recorded, mixed, and mastered at The Greenhouse, a process that helped shape a cohesive sound from disparate sources. Executive produced by billy woods and ELUCID, I Told Bessie is dedicated to its eponymous matriarch. 'Since she left this plane, I have felt her presence and voice in my life more than ever,' says ELUCID. With this album I want to pay tribute to her and acknowledge her continuing impact on my life path."

LP version. "In every arts community there are people who, despite being little known even to fans of the scene, are deeply embedded in its past and present. When it comes to NYC independent hip-hop, Joseph Fusaro aka Steel Tipped Dove is one of those people. Not only has he quietly made beats for everybody and their cousin but for more than fifteen years Dove has run a recording studio out of the same second floor walk-up in Brooklyn, weathering gentrification and the proliferation of home studios alike. In that time, a wealth of artists has crossed his threshold; some famous, some forgotten, and many in between. Dove's was always a place where you could schedule a last minute session or have an out of town artist meet you at 1am after their show, no need to worry, Dove would be there. It's a place that you drop by because you're around the corner and end up leaving with a jump drive full of wild beats. Call Me When You're Outside is a testament to that energy: inspired collaborations with disparate artists from across the country and the indie music spectrum. The album features ELUCID, billy woods, The Koreatown Oddity, KeiyaA, Pink Siifu, SHIRT, Fat Tony, Fielded, Fatboi Sharif, and SKECH185, and is entirely produced by Steel Tipped Dove. Mixed and mastered by Willie Green and executive produced by billy woods, CMWYO not only speaks to Dove's history in the scene but the vitality of his current work. He may have been in the game for a long time, but his beats have never sounded better and his vision as a producer has never been clearer. With that in mind, if you buy it directly from us the project comes with the full instrumentals, which are also included in the vinyl and CD versions. In some ways it's surprising that for all the artists Dove has worked with -- NOSAJ from New Kingdom, R.A.P. Ferreira, Tone Tank, Das Racist, ShrapKnel, Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire, Kemba fka YC The Cynic -- he has never put out a project like this. But if you know Joe, it's really not. He has always been comfortable playing the background and contributing in whatever way he could. For him, it's always been about the music. We hope you enjoy this rare peek into Dove's world: his sound, his friends and collaborators. The studio is open to everyone but the buzzer hasn't worked for fifteen years, so call when you're outside."
