2022 repress on LP. Features eight song highlights from the original double CD version of the album (CCT 3019CD). On the planet dub, Dubblestandart have already left their own crater with ten albums by now. Founded in the late eighties under the impression of Lee Perry's unique Black Ark productions and Adrian Sherwood's radical mixing maneuvers on On-U-Sound, the proven and sought-after backing band (Ari Up, Lee "Scratch" Perry Dillinger, Lilian Allen, Top Cat) around Paul Zasky has given Jamaican production techniques their own European face: bass-based, new wave-informed, on the cutting edge of mixing and adept in the tightrope walk between digital wumms and analog warmth, wordlessly mediating between patois and schmäh. With their eleventh album, they crown their career with a series of sensational collaborations (including Lee "Scratch" Perry, Ari Up and director David Lynch) and one that is unparalleled in terms of density, richness, depth and weight this season. Recorded in Kingston, the Bronx and in the home studio in Vienna. 180 gram vinyl.

The Hamburg label Echo Beach is celebrating the Up, Bustle And Out's anniversary with an extravagant compilation. For over 25 years the name Up, Bustle And Out has been synonymous with music, sound experimentation, exotic places, and -- last, but not least -- a very specific mindset. The formation from Bristol are representatives of the first Ninja Tune generation, alongside DJ Food, 9 Lazy 9, and The Herbaliser. Up, Bustle And Out released their first singles on the label of Coldcut DJs Black & More and became a key act on the label's first compilations. The sound of the band, which comprises DJs Rupert Mould aka Senor Roddy and David "D" Fell aka Clandestine Ein, guitarist Senor Cuffy, beat representative Dave Cridge, and percussionist and singer Eugenia Knight, is shaped by the period in which turntablism and sample collages became the new jazz. The band presented their unique take on this direction; breakbeats of rare funk records, cuts, and scratches from the turntable, which back then were still the driving force underpinning club music, garnished with samples and Senior Cuffy's guitar. A preference for double bass and Latin American rhythms, was obvious from the start, running through the band's work like a leitmotif. But soon this frame became too narrow for the quintet, and UB&O started broadening their horizon geographically as well as musically. Up until then, they had sampled Bossa Nova and Cuban rhythms; now, though, UB&O left their comfort zone and traveled to Havana, Cuba, to pick up the music at its source. It has been a fantastic journey, spanning a quarter of a century and three continents; this ride is now being told in time-lapse on their latest release, Almanac. Field recordings and historic radio jingles add a dash of local color. Harnessing the power of disjointed jazz funk sample collages, elaborate productions in Havana's venerable recording studios, and travel snapshots of the digital age, on ten albums, numerous singles, versions, and compilations, Up, Bustle And Out tell a fascinating story -- with an open ear for the signals of globalization, hearts that beat stridently on the left, and always a step ahead of their time.

Dubblestandart proudly presents album #13. With Woman in Dub, a collaboration with singers from all over, their dub voyage continues -- a colorful journey that ranges from lover's reggae, dub poetry to R&B and indie-pop vibes. Starting with Chezere from Barbados (Don Letts & Screaming Targets/Big Audio Dynamite/Urban Species/The Roots), the album opens with a smooth reggae song followed by reggae legend Marcia Griffiths' (Jam) tempting "Holding You Close." AmA Tone seduces with her indie-pop influence as the wide range of crossover compositions unfolds. Whether Jazzmine Tutum (Jam-Zion Train) tells not to "Worry What People Think About You" or as Coshiva's song says, "what it is all about?" "With Music We Communicate." Dubblestandart's approach remains quality first: Their massive studio in Vienna is full of classic equipment, a 48-track mixing desk, and loads of outboard gear to build mixes for the audiophile. Have a listen to Kiras reshape of Marianne Faithfull's "Broken English" classic and you know what's happening. Also included is acclaimed singer Caron Wheeler (Soul II Soul) as well as to Hoda Mohajerani and Saria Idana with some profound content straight from their heart. Since 1990, Dubblestandart have released 12 full-length albums, several 12" and 7"s, and have featured on more than 70 compilations. Their collaborating artists list includes Lee Perry, Ari Up, David Lynch, Ken Boothe, Adrian Sherwood, Sly & Robbie, Dillinger, Anthony B., Elephant Man, William S. Burroughs, and Mad Prof, amongst others. Lovely lyrics and melodies perfectly melt with Dubblestandart's 21st century urban roots beats, into the great Woman in Dub experience.

Overproof Sound-System started its life in 2000 as a monthly reggae night called "Overproof" held at the Medicine Bar in Birmingham, England. The night was started by Different Drummer's Richard Wittingham (Rockers Hi Fi) Adam Regan (Leftfoot) and Birmingham's dub duo G.Corp. Since the '70s, reggae music in Birmingham had become ghettoized, pushed out of city venues into illegal parties and split into genres. With violence on the increase, it was only the brave that would get to hear it. The "Overproof" night was not only a way for those involved to escape the recording studio and party but a way of bringing reggae back to the masses. The night soon grew, often bringing together 1500 regulars for what have now become legendary parties. From the start, the microphone and DJ'ing duties were shared by Ras-T-Weed (Rockers Hi Fi) and Juggla and over time percussion was added in the form of The Mighty Magoo. Messenger Douglas later joined Overproof in 2003, and has been part of Overproof ever since. In 2001, a European promoter attended the club and so impressed with the good spirit and almost tribal quality of the party, he invited Overproof over to Europe, thus giving birth to the Overproof Sound-System. The Sound System has been touring constantly since 2001 and has become a solid core of five people Messenger Douglas, Juggla, Mighty Magoo, Stallion (G.Corp.) and Jah Grizzly (G.Corp.). In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original club night, Overproof have once again returned to the Elephant House to record their second album Pull It Up!. The album includes vocals from the main crew messenger Douglas and Juggla and a guest appearance from one of the originals, Ras Tweed. One of the tracks, an acoustic version of "War Must Cease" includes a unique appearance by the Myspace Choir. People from all over the world were invited to add their harmonies to what has ended up as a beautiful protest against the act of war. As with the first album, this is a collection of styles bound together by a strong reggae influence, catchy melodies, heavy bass lines and conscious lyrics.

2007 release. From Vienna, the hometown of Mozart and Haydn, Dubblestandart started in the early '90s and chose dub music as their musical lodestar. Working as a backing band for Dillinger, Lee Perry, Topcat, Lilian Allen and Ari Up on her European and American tour, they've finely honed their live skills. Their live sets are like sessions -- with the style responding to the vibes of the audience -- interacting with them while dubbing. In 2006, during their Canadian Festival circuit, they made an overwhelming appearance on stage in collaboration with the Sugarhill backing band (Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, Keith LeBlanc) and Adrian Sherwood on the mixing desk -- aka Tackhead or Little Axe. Immigration Dub is their 10th album, a far-out world of dream dub-rockadelic and sonic insanity. Featuring Ari Up, Gudrun, a remix by the legendary "mash-up" reggae producer JStar from London, the one and only Ken Boothe, Devon D & Truman Chewstick from Kingston/Jamaica, 3gga from Nigeria, Doug Cox, and Todd Butler .

"Up, Bustle & Out are one of the original Ninja Tune acts. Over the past ten years, UBO have released five albums and countless singles through the London-based label, kindling world-wide interest in their experimental, multicultural sound... Once again, UBO left no stone unturned to get together the right equipment to reproduce the original sound of 1970s Jamaica. From arrangement through to song writing, the result pays homage to the Jamaican producers of the 70s, beaming the dub space shuttle into a contemporary orbit at the same time."

2007 release. When the Wet Cookies played their first live sessions in 1999, their music was raw, untreated and loud. It was pure improvisation, inspired by '70s free-funk and albums like On The Corner by Miles Davis. This not only applied to individual solos, but the music itself was created spontaneously. All they needed was a basic guideline to really "get the thing goin'." Although based on traditional jazz instrumentation, their sound was clearly influenced by electronic music and artificial, psychedelic soundscapes. As the band experimented with numerous sound processors, electronic drums and mallets, the engineering gradually became an integral part of their live performances. In order to maintain this energy on CD, their debut album, Earthling, was entirely composed and recorded live at two studio sessions in Vienna. Rooted in tradition but also heading into the future, Earthling recalls not only styles from the likes of Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker or Gerry Mulligan but also elements of music like Groove Armada or St. Germain. Founders Axel Hirn (also known for his work with the dub combo Noiseshaper) and Bjoern Klein set out to make not just another nu-jazz album with some jazzy flavors over contemporary dance music, but to create an original piece of music that is entirely based on improvisation.

2005 release. The Slits, with borrowed equipment and knowledge of two, maybe three chords, were a reality and made some crude commercial recordings for Island Records and CBS, as well as recording a couple of John Peel's BBC radio sessions. Special moments were guaranteed and true when they worked with veteran reggae producer Dennis Bovell, setting the stage for a future generation of riot grrls and the remarkable sound of punky reggae. The re-release (original on Human Records) on Collision came out exactly in that period and featured John Holt's famous reggae composition "Man Next Door" on A-side, as well as the great Slits composition "In The Beginning." The B-Side includes the splendid and very rare full-length 12" version "Animal Space."
