CODIS 021EP

Barcelona producers Velmondo (Hivern Discs) and Priorat have teamed up with Chicken Lips singer Jonny Spencer for an EP of deviant, darkly surreal and thoroughly epic house music, including the long-awaited release of Andrew Weatherall favorite "Dragging In The Mud". The EP, which will be released on Munich's Compost Records (Compost Disco), comprises two original tracks from Velmondo -- known for his work on John Talabot's Hivern Discs -- and young producer Priorat, who debuted on the compilation Hivernation from the same label. The release includes "Dragging In The Mud", which Weatherall played on his last NTS radio show before the much-loved DJ and producer's tragic death. Both original tracks feature debauched disco not disco beats, astral effects and production as deep as a Pacific trench, to which Spencer adds quirky spoken word vocals, pushing the music out to newly twisted and spaced-out plains. Absolutely essential for fans of Liquid Liquid, Liaisons Dangereuses or Suicide. The EP is completed with remixes by Barcelona's Marc Piñol and Swiss duo In Flagranti.

2023 repress. For 12 years, Compost Disco provide a massive package of 15 exclusive, previously unreleased tracks. A brilliant cocktail of disco-ish tunes by Dimitri From Paris and DJ Rocca, AN-2, Mark E, Ed Lee, Manuel Tur, Chocolate Garage Production, Velmondo, Ron Deacon, and some other suspect alter egos. Destined for the sunset crew, for the hip shaking, for the gym, for those, who are open minded with disco anyways, for more parties, last but not least for salvation. The variety range across the floor from boogie, Italo, new wave, classic soulful, Balearic, neo-disco, house-y, downbeat, fusion, garage, to tech disco. Tasty, hypnotizing, and emotional. A big shout-out, respect and thanks goes to Benjamin Röder, who does all the fantastic artwork for the 25 Compost Disco releases. Also features Alison David, Moodorama, Sharp 9, Priorat, Jonny Spencer, Kovi, Imperial Porcelain, and Grosso Modo.

Clavis is the formidable production duo of Manuel Tur and Adrian Hoffmann (aka Urban Absolutes). Having been friends since high school, it still took another decade after graduation until they released their first joint EP on Freerange Records in 2015. Since then the duo has steadily built up a discography based on a 'one EP a year' principle and selected remixes for artists like Ane Brun or Andhim. Besides Clavis, they are also involved in the production of several other projects, such as Amberoom, which recently caused quite a stir with remixes by Dixon and Isolée. Clavis live and work in Essen, Germany. The three energetic synth disco tunes from Clavis's Rocket Dial EP emerged from more or less spontaneous live jams with some vintage hardware, such as Roland TR-808 and SH-09 spiced up with modern drums and guitar overdubs. Miami Vice is calling...

What we gonna do right here is "Go Back", way back. It not only reminds of an Arthur Russell vibe, it has the de-facto ingredients of Arthur Russell's highly-acclaimed garage sound: naturally Steven Hall, aka Nirosta Steel, was the guitarist and/or singer of a few Arthur Russell hits. Never oxidizing, Nirosta Steel met up with DJ, producer, and Chinese record shop owner Tomasz Guiddo. When Kalabrese heard the original, he said it reminded him of the Talking Heads. Anyway, Kalabrese delivered his typical live-made disco-tinged joy ride, while Shahrokh Dini pushes "Go Back" forward into an enervating house hemisphere.

Peter Kruder and Rodney Hunter have been buddies for decades; it would only be a matter of time until the two would connect and start their legacy. The story took shape, when Peter and Rodney decided to meet up on a daily basis at Peter's house to jam and to record their musical ideas on a stereo tape deck, combining all of their influences; James Brown, Gary Numan, or even Bauhaus. The first results of these new jam sessions are two amazing tracks, the spectacular "This Is What U Get" and the mind-blowing "Addicted To Ganja."

Emerging almost twenty years ago listening to classic disco, Chicago house, and Detroit techno, Enzo Elia has crafted his own style of DJing and producing. Elia's chameleon approach also finds release in parallel projects like El Freakadell and Balearic Gabba Sound System. Game Of Circles mixes the unique and energetic sound of Florian Meindl's modular system, the guitar riff of Manuel Sirotti and more. You will get the essence of different musicians with different background (in only one thing). Not only strength in numbers, but also ideas, vibes, and bombastic contaminations. Cologne-based Chocolate Garage Production deliver a remix of "Voodoo," while DJ, producer, remixer, label owner, and club promoter JD Twitch (Optimo (Espacio)) remixes "Revely." Artwork -- as with all Compost Disco sleeves -- designed by Benjamin Röder (Charlie, Spectacle).

Ralph Obermauer and Oliver Brand are Genf Pakula. From an easy-listening cruise along the seaside promenade, tracks on Choices accelerate into the soundtrack ambience of '70s paranoid political thrillers and breathless chases through long corridors of looped machinery, breaking through to the cosmic neo-disco-dancefloor. With a tendency for Krautrock jams, an awareness for contemporary electronic club music, risky allusions to fusion and tacky orchestra pop, and roots in soul, punk and indie, all kinds of musical sensibilities are touched.

Feel-good dance music, smile 'n' drive mutant disco with remixes by Ilya Santana and Sleazy McQueen. Evol Ai, artistic moniker of Slovenian-based musician, producer and DJ Alan Roposa, represents the emotional half of his musical orientation, while the other half Qualiass aims more at his energetic soundscape. Besides producing, making music for video games, advertisements and theater, Alan's been involved in various bands as a guitar player and the man behind the machines, most notoriously with fellow studio partner Yanoosh (Ohm Fat), with whom they had a series of live performances, which concluded in 2011 as full band support for The Klaxons at various festivals and clubs. Besides distinctive live shows with the band, Alan also tends to put distinctive elements into his DJ sets, which are a kind of hybrid mix of DJ, live, and re-edit approaches from techno to disco.

El Freakadell is the new project founded by Enzo Elia (Balearic Gabba Sound System) and Roskow Kretschmann (Sygaire, Kosma, Mudegg and ex-Jazzanova). Here the duo delivers gorgeous garage, compatible to the famous loft classics. The original disco version "I've Got You" rings in with the traditional disco percussions in combination with shaking hi-hats and the appearance of strings and an outstanding soul voice. The house version combines a rubber roll-deep house chord with a laid-back atmosphere.

Sportloto rebuilds his hometown Izhevsk into a Balearic city with beaches and palm trees and Woolfy crafts a slick groove with wadding pads.
