"Ever since we first got together in Oslo to produce music under the Of Norway moniker in 2006, we had dreams of producing a cohesive body of work rather than just single tracks and EPs. Following a few 12" singles on Connaisseur Recordings in 2011 and 2012, we got to talking to the label about producing a full-length album. Two years later we are very proud to present the completed Accretion. We chose the album title Accretion (def: 'Growth or increase in size by gradual external addition, fusion, or inclusion.') as we felt it applied to the entire process of recording and writing music. We start out with one sound or melody and build upon that by adding more and more layers. And it's something that quite often is reflected in the structure of our tracks. Furthermore the title applies to how the album came about, in the sense that we started off with the title-track, which defined our sound and we kept building around that until we had a solid body of work. Accretion was not an easy album to make, as it is our first album and uncharted territory for us. We both had the idea that the album should not just be a collection of random tracks, but rather more a little documentation of our lives, and something personal. This made it doubly difficult, since it also exposed us as people and not just anonymous producers. We wanted to play as many of the instruments as we could ourselves, not relying too much on loops, samples and programming machines alone. We opted for more dynamic instruments and outboard gear, in conjunction with some loops/samples and sequencers. Not that we shied away from groove-based sequencing totally -- we used the Native Instruments Maschine to a great extent, for instance -- but we wanted to try to get more expressive and personal, and thought we could achieve this by mixing it up a little. Chief among the instruments we've played on the album is the Fender Jazz bass, various guitars, percussion instruments (anything from wood blocks to the Korg Wavedrum), and some synths like Moog Slim Phatty, Waldorf Blofeld, Korg DSS1, and so forth. Not to forget the help we've gotten from our vocalists, who've put their unique signatures on some of the tracks! This was all quite time-consuming and challenging, but also very rewarding. The album showcases productions from the very organic and almost entirely acoustic works to long, trance-inducing pieces that take your mind for a ride if you let it. The end result being a mix of moods and personalities and a glimpse into our lives at a period of time, which is a scary concept to present to the world, but sometimes you just have to jump out in the deep end and hope you stay afloat. We are both very proud of our debut album and hope you enjoy our Accretion as much as we do. Much love, Vegard Wolf Dyvik & Carl Christian Steenstrup."

When Connaisseur Recordings released Thor's "Yellow Sky Over Reykjavík" on the first part of their Icelandic Lost Tracks series in 2010, they were proud beyond words to discover such an outstanding and still unreleased track from one of their heroes from the '90s. When they decided to do the Iconography series with its wonderful artwork, split in four parts and illustrated by Julia Humpfer, they knew they had to use this bomb for it, but also that they had to choose the remixers wisely. Prins Thomas and Baikal interpreted the tune in a very personal way, but with full respect for the original parts.

"In June 2010, I moved to Berlin. I'd been in Barcelona for three years previous to that. Overall, as good as my social life and the experiences that I had there were, musically I was treading water. Everything changed once I moved to Berlin. The different environment and way of life was exactly what I needed to get my creative juices flowing again. That same month I sent three tracks to Connaisseur, which would become the Ghosts EP. At that point, the label asked me if I wanted to do an album for them. It wasn't something I had properly considered in quite some time, but I jumped at the prospect. I had self-released my debut album back in 2005 which was a collection of tracks I made from 2002 until that point. Once I started releasing internationally, I was just stoked to be releasing EPs. I didn't listen to any electronic albums, period. Only EPs and single tracks. I thought that the album was pointless in the electronic world. Luckily, I came around from that point of view, and it coincided with Connaisseur asking me to do the album. So then I tried to decide what angle to take with the album. Should it be a bunch of tracks all written in a short period of time with a similar theme, or a collection of different tracks brought together under the umbrella of an album? Should I cater for the floor or for the home-listening experience? So I racked my brains for a bit and thought, 'what would I like to listen to from start to finish in an album?' I told the label that I thought the album should be organic, some tracks might work in deeper sets but the most important thing is that they could be listened to in a variety of environments and not sound out of place. And the label agreed with me. With that I started working in earnest on the album, churning out many tracks in a similar vein, then banging my head on the keyboard for months at a time until the next wave came, with invariably a slightly different evolution of my sound. Equal parts synthesis and sampling, but 100% organic, touching on various different genres. In a way it's return to my initial methods of music creation, but also an evolution from that. A listening experience from start to finish and constructed as such. It also marks the first time I've worked with vocalists, featuring contributions from Emilie Harsongkram and two English singers, Emma Greenfield and Moss Beynon Juckes." Bren Gregoriy (Chymera)

Subtitled: A Journey Of Essential Wareika Interpretations. "Per Aspera Ad Astra" means "through hardships to the stars," and that is precisely Wareika's motto. You could say that the trio from Hamburg is the hardest-working bunch in the music business. In 2010, they released two albums back-to-back, Formation (TART 001CD) on Tartelet Records and Harmonie Park (PERL 081LP) on Perlon Records. The enormous output by the trio is reminiscent of jazz musicians of the '60s. Wareika have released several singles and have done some astonishing remix work within the past three years. Therefore, their collection of ten remixes, or better, reworked and interpreted songs, will give you a fine impression of how Wareika have elaborated their unique sound. To involve Alex Flitsch of Connaisseur Recordings was self-evident for the band. They started out on his label, made several remixes for it, and contributed tracks to the Grand Cru compilation. This also made it a matter of course to feature the exclusive remix of Connaisseur-act Kollektiv Turmstrasse's "Tristesse" on this album. In order to give it even more of a proper album feel, Wareika have delivered an intro and outro, making this collection sound more balanced and harmonious. Please enjoy this almost 80 minute-long journey to the stars with Wareika. Also features remixes of artists such as Aufgang, Gus Gus, Daniel Nitsch, Mathias Kaden, Alex Flatner & Lopazz, Patrick Chardronnet, Kasper Björke & His Friendly Ghost, Soukie & Windisch and Manolo.

Ghosts is Chymera's second cooperation with Connaisseur. Apart from his already very strong Detroit-ish output, he has started experimenting with house, disco and electronica to create a new subtle and more diverse sound spectrum. "Ghosts" is a very touching Detroit epic with a highly-motivating groove and a goosebump-inducing string theme. "These Jagged Shards" is the definition of deep -- a slow builder with an imperative dub groove, chopped-up vocals and driving drums, ensnaring the listener from beginning to end.

This is the debut full-length album from Hamburg's Kollektiv Turmstrasse. Rebellion Der Träumer (trans. "Rebellion Of The Dreamers") is so much more than an album: it reflects the duo's development over the past years, assimilating experienced impressions and presenting another side of Kollektiv Turmstrasse. It reveals their true nature and what they really are: dreamers. A great deal of love, time and passion was invested into this album, aiming to touch both heart and mind, and to take you on a musical journey. These are deep, rolling tunes mixed with a significant amount of groove, delicate percussion, minimal elegance, and slower, more contemplative bpms. Meanwhile, their soundtrack for dreamers has inspired several artists, filmmakers and graphic designers to work on the visualization of some of the pieces. Soon, music and films will be made public on www.rebellion-der-traeumer.de.

Patrick Chardronnet offers this double A-side on Connaisseur Recordings, opening a new chapter of his delightfully trippy & emotional adventures. Enchanting, mesmeric and deeply touching, these two tracks reinforce Chardronnet's hypnotic side. "Boggler" is a simple and reduced spacer that features wonderfully processed drums and endless arpeggio hypnosis. "Eve By Night" -- a counterpart to "Eve By Day," Patrick's biggest hit so far, starts rather smoothly and up-building. Then the track turns to a skipping, complex and meandering monster.

This is the third single from Estroe's Elemental Assets full-length (CNS 003CD), with interpretations by Ripperton and Melon. Ripperton's "Late Night Take #7 Mix" is surprisingly different from his usual productions, and is a piece of very organic, low-slung, addictive groove music. Drifting, melodic patterns and hypnotic keys combined with a phat, low-key bass line provide top-notch spookiness for enlightened dancefloors. Melon's "Winter Depression Remix" is a reduced, percussion-led groover that explores Melon's more melancholic side of things.

This is the debut full-length release by hotly-tipped Rotterdam-based Estroe. The CD consists of tracks produced by Estroe over the span of a few years, in which she spent a lot of time enhancing her production techniques and developing her creativity. As the artist herself explains: "Some tracks were made in rough times, while others were made under happy circumstances, and perhaps you can tell. For me, music is an emotional vent allowing me to express my feelings and freeing me of my restlessness. This makes the album very personal and I am terribly excited to share it with the world and with you." Directly inspired by her recent life experiences and passions, "Flirtatious Concubine" was produced right after a particularly-inspiring booking in Tokyo, and "Inspirited Away" came to life thinking about two producers who really inspired Estroe: Steve Rachmad and John Beltran. Elemental Assets is reflective of her DJ-work -- full of versatile techno with room for deep undercurrents as well as pure dancefloor work. Her style is warm, subtle, but at the same time very energetic. Two guest vocalists, Miss Kittin and Sam Leigh-Brown, also help lift these delicately-crafted tech-house tracks to the next level.

Presenting the second single from Estroe's Elemental Assets, with interpretations by Joel Mull and Tedd Patterson. Joey Mull delivers a straight, pumping, but still-melodic dancefloor mover. The "Tedd Patterson Estroe-Glide" rework is a genuine groove-monster that combines classic U.S. techno elements with a strong disco edit feeling. Last but not least, there's the great Detroitish original of "Updraft," which was picked for the add-on CD in the Nov./Dec. issue of Germany's Groove magazine.

The Grand Seigneur of dub, Brendon Moeller, serves up his follow-up to the already delightful Big Thrill release on Connaisseur's sub-imprint Supérieur. With his Big Shot EP, the South-African living in New York drops four massive cuts of deep dub -- timeless and full of Detroitish and Hardwax-esque references. "Big Shot" comes in dub and original, "The Boost" is somewhere between house, techno and dub, and "The Urge" is classic, timeless dub-techno with dusty and mumbling soundscapes.

The Plasmik brothers present three true Plasmik cuts, timeless grooves between deep house and techno with a strong American twist. Real Connaisseur music. "Night Bell" is a trippin' track, dominated by a psychic, wobbling bell theme. Its old-school feel becomes intensified by a subtle, disco-like melody. "Sneaky Dee" is brilliant deep house with a slightly tech-y touch and a sticky theme. "Red Tension" is a pure beauty. Acoustic instruments appear sporadically and guide you through a wonderfully laidback sound universe.

Timo Maas and Santos are ready for their second strike on Connaisseur with their project Mutant Clan. With Mutanism, they present two tracks, epic monsters, musical mutants between different genres; however, both with a touch of Detroit in its most modern form. "Perfect Place" is a marathoner of a tune with an Olympic length of almost 13 minutes. Its dubby and chordish sound design makes it an all-purpose choice, both for house and techno DJs.

Brilliant remixes of Federleicht's "On The Streets," originally released on Connaisseur's Grand Cru 2008 compilation. Federleicht is a collaboration between Florian Schirmacher and Marc Bammann. Far from any typical restrictive club style, Florian and Mark have developed a project that reflects elements as diverse as multilayered deep house, intelligent techno, downbeat grooves and abstract soundscapes. Outstanding remix treatments by Kollektiv Turmstrasse and SiS.

Presenting Kollektiv Turmstrasse's remix of Federleicht's "On The Streets" -- the climax of every one of their live sets in 2008. A famous Martin Luther King speech is the sticking moment on this emotional journey. A serious hit candidate! The high priests of jackin' Afro-tech return with an impressive release. Florian Schirmacher, Henrik Raabe and Jakob Seidensticker are the voice of Wareika, finding common ground on the dancefloor by pushing bass lines, synthesizing emotions and by using emotive vocals. "Impulse" sounds like Carl Craig and a snake charmer having drinks at a grubby jazz bar. "Be Real" is a deep Chicago affair. Smoothly jackin', it draws you into a sea of meandering synths -- truly soulful.

Connaisseur Recordings proudly presents the second edition of the annual label compilation, Grand Cru. This year's vintage, Grand Cru 2008, captivates not only with subtle, deep and more complex flavors, but also shows the whole bandwidth of the Connaisseur family's taste in music. 2007's compilation was a pleasurable success which was proven by being ranked as 11th best compilation of the year in Germany's Groove magazine. Along with this, the Grand Cru Tour stopped in the best European clubs like the Watergate (Berlin), Loft (Barcelona), Propaganda (Moscow), Doornroosje (Nijmegen), and Club Q (Zurich), always packing a wonderful audience and excessive vibes. Grand Cru 2008 offers a brilliant mélange of known artists from the Connaisseur roster like Patrick Chardronnet, Ripperton, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Daso, Sebastian Roya and two wonderful ladies from the Netherlands: Estroe and ZoëXenia. Apart from that, Connaisseur presents new outstanding talents like Art Bleek, Andrès Garcìa, Wareika and Federleicht. Since Grand Cru stands for a marriage of the finest grapes, the 2008 vintage again captivates with a great variety of exquisite electronic music, which has been compiled not only for the dancefloor but also for home enjoyment. It's almost a tradition to say that CD2 features a free bonus mix and this year, it has been compiled and mixed by label impresario Alex Flitsch, who presents a deep trip of upcoming pearls and highlights from the Connaisseur back catalog. Other artists include: Plasmik, Afrilounge, Rekleiner and Daniel Stefanik.

Rekleiner's second strike for Connaisseur is called Los Caminos, offering two mesmerizing cuts of the deepest forms of electronic club music. Rekleiner is a collaboration between Stuart Geddes, Anthony Middleton & Luca Saporito. All three of them are players within the London underground club scene, and Luca and Anthony are also known as Audiofly. "Q Onda" is a meandering ride through advanced soundscapes. Things evolve gradually, spurred on by a steady kick and an almighty rumbling bassline. "Dos Caminos" starts with an ultra-deep groove, the track slowly growing into an atmospheric epic. This 2CD compilation is the beginning of a yearly series and is a representative selection of established Connaisseur artists as well as up-and-coming new members of the label's roster. "Grand Cru" is a term used in the wine business and normally denominates a special wine, which is made from the best grapes of both one wine-producing area and one vintage. The stylistic diversities featured on this compilation aren't less refined and versatile. CD1 features artists such as Afrilounge, with an elegantly lowered house groove and Jochen Trappe, setting the benchmark with his glitch-rock tech. Daso teams up with his ingenious partner, Pawas to make even the most lame couch potato taste their own very special Beaujolais and freak out on the dancefloor. Furthermore, Ripperton bares his Detroit soul with a special track that makes everyone's heart beat and the legs boogie. Needless to say, Connaisseur's old school techno preachers Plasmik are also on board with a crunchy and massively deep groover while Girrèsse & Erb and Estroe & ZoëXenia manage to come up with tracks interwoven with smooth vocals. Pele is a highly promising producer talent who had his debut on Connaisseur with a compact gem. CD2 is a joyous melding of all these sounds and more, mixed by the inimitable Patrick Chardronnet. Other artists include: Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Sebastian Roya, Simon Baker, Shokh and Rekleiner.

This is Mark August's first solo release. His tracks declare his love for Detroit techno and house, with a modern but classic understanding. You should be prepared for something extraordinary; a colorful and dynamic pallet of sound that will rock your mind and body. "Old Joy" sounds like a fine blend of an old Djax-Up record and fresh neo-Detroitish ingredients. "Just Like That" lifts up to the dubby side of life, starting with spooky and weird underwater dub sounds that turn into Carl Craig-ish modwheel hymns in the end.
