" Smothered in trademark atmospheric stealth and slither, 'Move Your Soul' has MRK1 making fanfares for imperial squadrons, and intercepting vintage female dance vocals in a hostage situation as he darts in and out of another of his chrome mazes. Remember when Peter Griffin from Family Guy is granted the wish of having his own theme music wherever he goes? MRK1 can conceivably pop round the newsagents to the sound of ominous intergalactic friction. Taken from the potential lipsmacker Sound Of Contagious album, it stands in the gap between dubstep and electronica at its surliest, moving to an easy-to-follow path so that the mass of the situation becomes hard to take on the chin. In other words, it may move freely, but it still casts a serious shadow. Another album preview is 'The Electrician,' which takes the rewiring of plugs to industrially Draconian lengths. Synths are programmed to kick you both in the guts and your fillings as MRK1 walks the plank of spinning blades with a crystal finish, operated by a black-hearted Speak n Spell. Dubstep's jackhammer blur of beats are dodged for a firm putting down of his foot while making the traditional aspect of dub stand out. It's the sound of an extreme version of LaserQuest: complete with pinging crossfire across the bass wastelands, the power-packs are taking the weight of a real ready-to-go arsenal."

"Chimpo has been DJing since he was a young chimp. He was a bad boy jungle DJ at 13 even though he was on a pair of soundlab belt drives that were falling apart. Since he was the age of 16, he's been knocking out killer hip hop, jungle, garage, grime and soul. He has recently been working closely with Zed Bias and MRK1 and has a forthcoming track on both of their labels. This is the Vip Version Skream has been playing -- proper bouncer bucket load of weightyyyy!"

"Manchester's biggest dubstep export marks the twentieth instalment of his Contagious Music with this pair of tough dancefloor rinsers. 'Dubelek' wastes no time, a basic intro of woozy detuned and choice ethnic vocals getting wound up tight before the heavy drop -- big fat halfstepping drums and pinpoint percussion propping up a monster stabbing bassline that filters and mutates as the tune goes on. 'Borderline' complements the A-side nicely, with more lively swinging drums driven onwards by a sick selection of evil wobble bass." -- IDJ Magazine

"Virus Syndicate have long held down the grime scene north of Watford Gap, and often run further afield with forays into vocalizing dubstep and UKHH. Here, they team up with David Lewis on Contagious, the label owned by MRK1 who also provides the beats. As the title suggests, 'For The Music' is a conscious piece from David Lewis, his sweet reggae vocal in the chorus propping up some standard but well-delivered vocals from Virus Syndicate, and he also features on the AA-side instrumental."

"Contagious returns with another CD album, this time enter Skittles with his debut album 2 Pints of Brandy & A Packet of Skittles. Skittles, originally hailing from Manchester, has claimed the Manchester scene and is now ready to take on the world. His eclectic sound and poetic lyrics have been dubbed as 'the next Mike Skinner.' The album itself is a portrayal of life and inspirations that surround him on a day-to-day basis and is a realistic snap shot of the trials and tribulations that surround the youth today. The album features productions by MRK1, Chimpo, Sam Skitt and Skittles himself. There are also a number of guest appearances from Virus Syndicate on the album."

"Contagious return with their 10th release of deep dubwise pressure. MRK1, a name familiar to all, drops the excellent 'Realmatize' with its cheeky bass warbles, big claps & groovy rhythm. Flip for some more devastation -- Chimpo bashes a deadly rhythm reminiscent of mid-'90s jungle with its moody bass , vocal & dub-wise atmospherics. Big and bashy!!!"

"Manchester's latest musical prodigies Virus Syndicate present some of the UK's finest vocal talents on MRK1's sub rocking imprint Contagious. For all those ignorant of the lyrical revolution occurring in Manchester, Contagious Vol 1 offers a refreshing insight into this somewhat London centric hype ridden scene. The vocal talents and production qualities of Manchester's finest, the Virus syndicate have been receiving acclaim from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Liam Howlett, Freq Nasty, Rob da Bank, Ras Kwame and Semtex to name a few and are carried through with this fine album. From satire to irony, humor to sincere, gangsta to socialist. Contagious Vol 1 offers a different view of today's youth and the skills and intelligence they possess. Tracks such as 'Politics' and 'Hunger' are a true sign of the times touching upon illegal wars, politics, poverty and the hierarchical system... disputes aside the album also delivers wonderfully crafted stories such as 'Man Who Would Be King' detailing a man's demise after selling his soul to the devil. Then there's the up front testosterone fueled tracks such as Plastician's 'Happy Shopper' which is a whooping swooping bass-driven speed train with a high speed vocal rinse out from Manchester's finest. With established artists such as Jammer, Ears and B Live new talent is also bought through such as the lyrically amazing Skittles, another Manchester starlet to watch out for. Contagious Rhymin Vol 1 is a definitive album of the new musical movement evolving from the UK be it grime, hip hop or dubstep, and is one album that will solidify Manchester's position (yet again) as one of the greatest musical hot pots in the world."

"Contagious returns with another 3-track EP, this time featuring MRK1 and Skream. Track 1 - MRK1 - 'Never Warned' -- A deep sub bass heavy monster that has been doing damage on dancefloors across the globe, with the likes of The Plastician, Hatcha, Kode 9, Skream, Pinch, Geenius to name a few playing it, every time getting a reaction. A tune that has to be heard out loud to understand its full capabilities. Track 2 - Skream - 'Plodder Remix' -- the man of the moment comes up with a huge remix to one of the biggest tunes of last year by MRK1. Currently being caned by all the top boys in the dubstep scene, this one reaches out across genres with its industrial bassline vibe. One not to be missed!!! Track 3 - MRK1 - 'Eye Of Ming' -- MRK1 comes with another Oriental dubstep track. Simple beats and massive basslines make this a tune that is capable of blowing your bassbins away. Another tune receiving a lot of play by the heads of the scene."
