Sweden's veteran DJ & producer Samuel L. Session makes his first appearance on Detelefunk with the Blue Ripple EP, a gem of a single that keeps things deep, yet for the dancefloor, showing his unique blend of the techno and house genres. "Blue Ripple" is a groovy tech house extravaganza, teasing throughout with alluring strings. "Staccato" and "Odyssey" pick up the pace more and head for those late-night peak-time dancefloors with driving kicks and filtered stabs.

Those fine purveyors of funk-fueled electronics, Detroit Grand Pubahs are back with their fourth studio album. This time the crazed ringmaster, Paris The Black Fu, resides over the Madd Circus with his equally deranged side-kick, Mr. O, making sure that the animals are entertained and the kids are kept in check. Madd Circus sees the duo return to the booty, electro-pop and funk of their critically acclaimed debut and the skitzoid electro of Paris' debut solo release The Mad Circus EP back in '99 on Detroit indie label, Throw. As Paris himself states, "this album is a journey into the booty electro and pop contempo -- almost funk but not quite so." Did someone say dead elephants, tigers and horses? No, they're not dead, just driven madd by the Ring Master FU and the freak-inhabited Mr O. From the opening electro-pop of "Autotragik" and recent single "NUmb Deaf and Dumb," (see video on www.senmusictv.com) the Pubahs are back on top of the electro form. The electro booty of "Zombies Playing Dead" fits well with the skittish, Drexciyan-style funk of the closing "Clone Mobile" while tracks such as "Mashed Potato" are pure, unrefined funk. "Breakfast In Bed" sees Barry White taking over as Paris declares that "there's no reason to get out of bed cause the buffet is right here." "Maybe I Do" and "Madd Circus" fire a droning rock workout and twisted drum n' bass into the crazed big top and "Mysterious Sights" drops a bass-heavy dubstep sound into the travelling freakshow that can only be the Detroit Grand Pubah's Madd Circus. Well-produced and still raw at the same time, Madd Circus is the best Detroit Grand Pubahs so far.

Detroit Grand Pubahs' Numb Deaf & Dumb EP takes on a classic break-up song with electro twists and turns. In typical Pubahs style, the deep, sincere vocals, but sometimes tongue-in-cheek lyrics are underpinned by inspired machine antics. Space DJz (Ben Long/Jamie Bissmire) turn in the first alternative mix; a stripped-down rumbler of dark electro proportions. DJ Pierre draws on his pioneering acid skills to distort the vocals and add effective definition, making his "Afro Acid Mix" a major dancefloor contender.

Detelefunk presents DJ/producer K' Alexi Shelby. Kaay is a pioneer of the Chicago sound with several early acid-house classics on Trax, DJ International, Transmat, ACV and Djax-Up-Beats. His unique, smooth blend of techno and house, as Kaay calls "TecSoul," attracted the eye of the Detroit Grand Pubahs. "I Can Go" features Kaay's vocals and heavy female breathing. The "Chicago House Mx1" is deeper and more house-oriented, while the "TecSoul" version leans towards the jackin' techno side. Also includes a mix by Raudive.

Detroit Grand Pubahs relaunch their imprint with a remix series of some of their favorite producers remixing tracks from their last 3 albums, eventually leading to a remix compilation featuring the finest remixes of the Pubahs' music. Robert Hood remixes the title track from the Pubahs' Funk All Y'all, while DJ 3000 takes one of Paris The Black Fu's first tracks and adds his Albanian rhythms. Finally, Samuel L Session delivers this peak-time dancefloor remix of "Dr. Bootygrabber."

The Detroit Grand Pubahs return with their third full-length release, Nuttin' Butt Funk. Keeping their uncontrollable infatuation with booty (butt, ass, gluteus maximus) in tact, the teaming of Mack Goudy Jr. (aka Paris The Black Fu aka Dr. Bootygrabber) and The Mysterious Mr O was a natural disaster waiting to happen. Miraculously, the personalities of these two tweaked characters seemed to compliment each other perfectly and instantly bonded them together. On Nuttin' Butt Funk, you can hear the Pubahs flexing their production muscle across wigged-out electro on cuts like "Earth Hoes," "Dirty 'Ole Man" and "Butt Market," straight-up dancefloor techno on "50,000 Legions," "ChiTown Shuffle" and "Message From Overkill," strung out Detroit deepness as exemplified by the beautiful opener "Skydive From Venus," the odd comedy interlude ("Condom-Mints" anyone?) and twisted funk-rock as highlighted by next single "Rollin' Papers & Bush" and the demo mix of hidden track "Rebel Music" (Living Room Edit). The Pubahs now also run their own label, Det.Ele.Funk (or to give it its full title "Detroit Electro Funk") and the now Geneva-based Paris has been busying himself with various other projects including guest vocals for The Advent, St. Plomb and Marc Romboy, as well as his new production project Filth N Dirt with Dave The Hustler.
