Ben Kaczor and Niculin Barandun reveal their debut album Pointed Frequencies on Dial Records, dedicated to the healing properties of sound. Pointed Frequencies contains six mesmerizing compositions and comes along with two video shorts by the artist Marie Sutter. The collaboration between Niculin Barandun and Ben Kaczor started in 2022 with a carte blanche for an audiovisual show at Digital Art Festival Zurich. While working on the performance, a common understanding of sound aesthetics emerged and the foundation for the duo's project was laid. At that time Ben Kaczor studied sound therapy. Niculin Barandun was intrigued by the concept, and it became subject of the album's creation. The intention behind Pointed Frequencies is to explore the therapeutic potential of binaural beats and solfeggio frequencies, providing listeners with a healing experience. These elements are subtly integrated into the recordings, becoming a freeform blend of experimental and ambient music. A contemporary approach suspends the esoteric background common in this field. Instead, the focus is on crafting a unique sound that is appealing to those seeking a more accessible form of musical recreation. With the dynamics of free improvisation, Ben Kaczor and Niculin Barandun create virtuously interwoven sound structures. Ambient timbres evoke the presence of the room and create an experience of wordless thinking. An immersive journey invites the listener to sense of intimacy and movement. Calmness and contemplation, beauty and melancholy meet unconventional and stochastic scenes of dramatic character. The exquisite visualizations for the live performance as well as two experimental short-films are supplied by artist and director Marie Sutter. Fluid abstractions of light move inside her structural compositions. Sutter's videos reflect the brooding energy and nascent forms of Pointed Frequencies perfectly. A poem by writer Carla Patricia Kojich is embedded in the titles of the tracks. Artist Inga Danysz created the cover artwork and the graphic design comes by Sandro Weber (Atelier Maeve). Pointed Frequencies marks the 25th anniversary of Dial Records, founded in the winter of 1999/2000. While the label is best known for its club-oriented music, Dial has a long tradition in releasing experimental music and ambient.

Dial announce Ben Kaczor's album, Petrovo Uho. After his debut LP, Sun Chapter One on KCZ, Ben Kaczor presents eleven brand new tracks. "For the album, an important conceptual thought came from encountering a rare ear-shaped seashell called 'Petro Uvo (Peter's Ear).' I found it while diving in Dubrovnik, Croatia in the summer. Inspired by the sound of a foreign language, I decided to keep all the tracks in Croatian, some of them in the dialect of the town of Dubrovnik, because the atmospheric soundscapes of the tracks reflect memories and feelings of traveling through Croatia, the force of the sea and wind, the play of lights and moods." --Ben Kaczor, 2022. Edition of 250.

Once upon a time, two operators stared at their screens. They sat silently for hours, their whole being dedicated to the task they had been assigned to. Days and nights passed in the same monotonous manner. Suddenly signals showed up on their monitors. Alarms started to ring. Both reacted at the same speed and did what they were supposed to do. Controls and commands were entered, as was protocol. After observing these waves for 61:01 minutes, everything became quiet again. What they had just witnessed made them wonder. For the first time they addressed each other. "The data is transferring through our system," announced the first. "Let us both check how this can be interpreted." The second validated the response. Together, they looked at what had been recorded. Ideas raced through their complicated minds until they realized simultaneously: sounds! They listened. "Is this an unknown language?" one asked. "This is the first time this has been heard throughout our history," the other answered. They listened again and again. "This electricity has been arranged to form a cohesive entity," the first said. "Why would machines be used to create that?" the second mused. Something had awakened inside of them, an obsessive curiosity they had never experienced before. They did not understand and were blown away by the beauty of it. "Do you think it could have been left by humans before us?" one whispered. "If it was, these would be Major Signals," the other concluded. As they processed these thoughts, the two artificial intelligences sat still.

The 20th anniversary year of Dial Records couldn't have been more exciting for the label! They announce the second album release of 2020: XDB's Inspiron. As a longtime companion and true inspiration throughout the label's twenty-year history, Kosta Athanassiadis, aka XDB, releases his long-overdue full-length debut albumInspiron. For almost three decades now Kosta Athanassiadis aka XDB has been involved in the constantly changing world of dance music. His curiosity and dedication to electronic music spiral deep into the depth of house music and techno and wherever he appears he generously shares his unique knowledge in this field with equally dedicated crowds. Whether you follow his bloggish Tracks I do really LOVE, a collection of club essentials and a library of taste, or you witness one of his remarkable DJ sets from Panorama Bar to Freerotation Festival -- XDB will elevate you to one of those unforgettably magical music moments. In 1993, Kosta Athanassiadis started his DJ career in the medieval hometown of Goettingen. To find what he was really looking for, namely, the newest and most exciting new records he frequently had to leave this picturesque city, that is most popular for inventing the traditional Baumkuchen pastry, but has not been on the maps of music connoisseurs necessarily. Frequent trips to visit records stores and clubs around Germany built a network of likely minded people. By the turn of the century, XDB hosted a series of nights at Goettingen's Eletroosho, where he invited Dial's own Lawrence and Carsten Jost in 2002, the beginning of a still ongoing friendship. He had established himself as a sought after and internationally active DJ and started his fist endeavors into music production as well. Later on, XDB founded his own Label Metrolux and released on iconic labels like Sistrum and Wave to be followed by countless remixes for legends like Aaron Carl, Norm Talley, and Patrice Scott. There are rarely DJs and producers who keep searching for this hidden formula in such a microscopically detailed way to pass a lifetime in house music and techno on to the world. XDB's Inspiron embraces this unique approach, filters and develops inspirations in an entirely delicate way, and magically emphasizes the desires of the most dedicated listeners and dancers.

A new addition to the label's extended family, Tracey arrives on Dial with his debut LP, Biostar. Following previous releases on Aus Music, Voyage Direct, and Intergraded, Biostar pushes the technical and emotional craft of this vital young producer in exciting new directions, submerging listeners in thirteen tracks of sublime electro, ambient experimentation, and warm, tonal techno. Based in the Netherlands, Tracey's music is undoubtedly indebted to a legacy of emotive electronic music, the sort whose stark futurist vision cannot be equaled. Instead he strives and succeeds to create something personal and charismatic from a perhaps familiar palette of sounds. Somewhere between experimentation and understated songwriting, Biostar is a worthy edition to Dial's legacy of unique, artist-led albums. In the tradition of established Dial artists such as Lawrence, Roman Flügel, and Efdemin, Tracey's immediately apparent strength is an almost supernatural ability to conjure affecting and memorable melodies with minimalist intent, often just utilizing the raw textures of his machines. From album-opener "THRRVL", Tracey tracks the initially gentle undulations of his studio seemingly waking to life, plotting a neat melodic shuffle on "TRR" and then, by, "CCLRT", something dense, trippy and yearning. From here on in, Biostar plots an intriguing course through hypnotic, clockwork crunch ("THWRD"), to Drexciyan submersion ("HDRCSTCS") and rhythmic experimentation on "PHTCPHRK". Some of the more affecting moments on Biostar emerge from its more obtuse sections; "DTFNK" deciphers a surprisingly catchy melody among waves of scrambled signals, while the initially skittish "DRMRBT" blossoms into an electro lullaby at 126bpm. By the arrival of wistful closing track "CLSTLBNG", listeners are likely to emerge content from the deepest exploration yet of Tracey's unique analog ecosystem.

Double LP version. John Thorp on Lawrence's Illusion: "Lawrence makes a full-length return to his own Dial label with Illusion. Following two critically-acclaimed albums for Mule Musiq, the follow-up to 2016's Yoyogi Park (MUSIQ 054CD/196LP) captures the Berlin-based artist, DJ, and label-owner at home in a suitably deep landscape of sound. Throughout, his involving and human approach to electronic music feels more inviting and more necessary than ever. Rather than the dancefloors across Europe that Lawrence has so fruitfully soundtracked over the past few decades, the sound of Illusion is inspired not only by his endless, constantly unfolding creative process, but a flurry of underground club gigs overseas including Japan and Mexico. In these close spaces, warmth and intimacy generate the atmosphere, and Illusion is naturally blessed with a typically delicate touch that might surprise even long-time devotees of the artist. On close listen, acoustic instruments and subtle field recordings provide a natural bedfellow to Lawrence's typically warm, earthy machine sound. Another influence is the artist's real-time live project, Sky Walking, and their shows in intimate venues such as Berlin's Acud and the legendary Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg. After pulling back the stage curtain with the mellow and inviting 'Crystal', the bubbling Lawrence grooves are quickly established on 'Treasure Box', alongside a complex but seductive tapestry of both electronic and acoustic sound. Before long the buoyant synths that drive 'Yu Yu' melt sensitively into a rich wash of strings. The second half of Illusion conjures somewhat darker magic, tunneling more so into the darker, psychedelic impulse within Lawrence's synthesis. 'Transitions' establishes an eerie atmosphere that's complemented by 'Dark Swirl', in which a deep, bottom-heavy bass line dances around a dense, atmospheric forest of effects. The record concludes with perhaps it's greatest moments of potential physical delight. Montreux divulges it's details gradually yet beautifully, anchored by a powerful kick, while 'Creepers' finishes the show with a deeply resonant, melodic and altogether transcendent trip, a full-scale but understated soothing of the body and mind. Continuing his story as one of the most accomplished producers in electronic music, Illusion finds Lawrence reflecting inward, back where he began. Able to conjure quietly breathtaking moments out of thin air, the intriguing effect of Lawrence's music continues to resonate."

Following 2017's Path Of Ruin (DIAL 074EP), DJ Richard returns to Dial with his much-anticipated sophomore LP, Dies Iræ Xerox. Undoubtedly one of the most distinctive and fully-formed electronic producers in recent memory, DJ Richard imprinted the sound of a bubbling US underground with his label, White Material, founded in 2012 alongside Young Male. His first solo LP for Dial, 2015's Grind (DIAL 033CD/LP), found DJ Richard delicately establishing a discipline between his East Coast noise heritage and a physical, emotive tradition of house music, mastered during an extended stay in Berlin. Now firmly settled once more in his hometown of Providence, Dies Iræ Xerox is a personal and uncompromising journey that finds the Rhode Island native in reflective form. In part adapting its title from the Latin hymn "Dies irae", otherwise known as "Day of Wrath", Dies Iræ Xerox melds the physical and psychological aspects of DJ Richard's production ethos in sharper, more widescreen vision than before; the oceanic swells of ambience yet more powerful, and the rigid basslines sharper still. With the chaos of the Berlin club scene an increasingly distant memory, the album is enriched with a contemplative, even brittle tone, as informed by film soundtracks and literature as the pulse of city living. On Dies Iræ Xerox, the artist finds the space to write "the records I really want to play", and each suggests a template for genuine dancefloor transcendence, beginning with the electrifying "Vanguard". The sludgy yet sophisticated crawl of "Tunnel Stalker" sets the tone for the menacing yet somehow melancholy EBM of "In Broad Daylight", while the record draws to a breathless close with the affecting, drum machine lethargy of "Gate Of Roses". Drawing little distinction between his more physically rousing material and searching soundscapes, Dies Iræ Xerox instead finds a passage of catharsis throughout both. "Dissolving World", the album's breathtaking centerpiece, is a choral feature hypnotically overwhelmed by walls of electronic feedback, forging a dramatic link between old ways and new. On the bold and near-beatless "Ancestral Helm" and "Final Mercy", DJ Richard seems to grant both music and raw emotion the ability to simply float in the air, brilliantly, poignantly unresolved. If Grind, inspired by the weathered coastlines of Rhode Island, was a record concerning "the border between civilization and the ocean", then Dies Iræ Xerox is an unapologetic follow-up concerning that between macabre obsessions and fear of death.

Double LP version. In the midst of a busy year, full of wildly-varied accomplishments, David Lieske (aka Carsten Jost) presents Perishable Tactics, his first full-length album since 2001's You Don't Need A Weatherman To Know Which Way The Wind Blows. Since his last full-length, he's kept busy curating countless releases on Dial, the label he co-runs with Peter "Lawrence" Kersten, which celebrated a 15 year anniversary with an all-encompassing various artists compilation, he has released a gallery-edition album of his black ambient collaboration Misanthrope CA with Robert Kulisek, Deathbridge (DIAL 037LP, 2016), and he launched a new magazine project (also with Kulisek) named after the speed of light (i.e. 299792458m/s). Out of all of the Dial house and techno artists, Carsten Jost has always represented the most precise brand of exquisitely doom-laden house, laced with equally strong doses of melancholy and beauty. On Perishable Tactics, Lieske runs through his distinctively stealthy, low-slung beat-"mospheres", leaning towards a decidedly low-lit and sultry space, but mixed with a fresh, gently arcing feeling of romance and possibly love. Tellingly, he's seen it fit to include 2007's "Love", originally from a 2007 split release with Efdemin. But while "Love" represents a yearning towards a place where love might reside, the remaining tracks seem to represent a place where love actually exists. This feeling is woven into his deep, medium tempo, Detroit-inflected house rhythms, accented with crystalline keys, disembodied voices at times, and gently soaring strings. While anger may be less in the forefront here it is important to notice that these tracks are ripe with the balance of joy and unease inherent in house. There is definitely a newfound languid nature here that feels particularly like a moment shared by two (perhaps many), but the atmosphere still remains decidedly pensive. "Ambush", with its strolling beat, moody, yet sweet chords and chilling atmosphere, which is eventually joined by thunder cracking a safe-distance away. Of course diehard fans will find satisfaction knowing that Lieske's delectable angst hasn't completely abated. The title track takes a disarmingly peaceful setting and rolls a heavy fog over it to herald a sure-to-arrive fate that awaits the listener. But with "Dawn Patrol", the whispering hi-hat and gently clanking rhythm, offset by rolling strings, marries the old and new Carsten Jost most successfully. Dense atmospheres, bookended by tracks by Misanthrope CA, make for a perfectly foreboding, elegant, and deliciously dark album by Carsten Jost.

After the major and still ongoing success of his previous albums Fatty Folders (DIAL 023CD/LP, 2011) and Happiness is Happening (DIAL 031CD/LP, 2014), Roman Flügel is back with his third full-length album on Dial Records. All The Right Noises includes adventures into contemporary house/techno music, his finest ambient works, and unique broken pieces. An intense mixture of incredible warmth, weird fluffiness and highest uplift, written in his very own musical language - barely another artist, active since the early nineties, sounds as fresh and surprising as Roman Flügel. From the very first chord of "Fantasy", a dream becomes reality, followed by the wonderfully seducing "The Mighty Suns", a masterpiece of its own. Here the journey starts getting slightly provoking with the techy "Dead Idols". "Nameless Lake" and "Planet Zorg" are excessive hymns to start a rave night out. With "Warm And Dewy", "Dust" and "All The Right Noises", Roman Flügel proves his love for eternal madness. The closing tune "Live Tends To Come And Go" is another warm ambient tune in Roman Flügel perfection.

After their first limited tape reedition Amerika (2015), Deathbridge is a full-length album recorded in the Hamptons, New York, in collaboration with the Oslo gallery "VI, VII". LP version. Christian Naujoks follows his 2009 self-titled debut (DIAL 013CD) and his piano-focused 2012 follow-up, True Life/In Flames (DIAL 024CD/LP), with his third album, Wave, a work dedicated to the electric guitar. Inspired by The Durutti Column, John Fahey, Vincent Gallo, Azalia Snail, David Grubbs, and many others, Christian Naujoks breaks the boundaries between songwriting and minimalism; between folk music and contemporary art. The recording sessions at Electric Avenue Studios were accompanied by engineering master Tobias Levin, known for his work with Kreidler, Faust, Felix Kubin, and Pantha Du Prince & The Bell Laboratory, to name a few. With Wave, Naujoks and Levin create a seductive, state-of-the-art production of ten post-minimalist guitar pieces with an appearance of the artist's signature piano style on two of the songs. This release follows Naujoks's work with his band Sky Walking (with RVDS and Lawrence) and his 2016 piano cassette on Martin Hossbach's eponymous imprint (CABACH 001CS).

New York native James K has spent the 2010s quietly honing her sound and peculiar aesthetic; equally organic and electronic, her sound is a combination of odd dreams, industrial beats, and vocals, both incomprehensible and appealing, with a thick layer of glitter on top. James K is a concentrated dose of emotion mixed with sorrowful iciness, which in turn ties together ripped, broken, morphed, and enchanted samples. James K stands for a fusion of visual and sonic elements, deeply rooted in both conscious art practice and downright freak-out. James K creates a mythology of her own. Her debut album, Pet, is a co-release by Dial and her own label, She Rocks! In James K's words, "The underlying desire of Pet divides into two parts: an escape into ethereality and a mischievous denial of my own experience. It narrates my search for honest expression by means of the premature denial -- a childish excursion into a world of monstrosity and innocence. Pet reflects my mental state during its production -- as a person, I was owned, objectified and hurt by other, and that wound I then unwillingly internalized. I turned to my music as a way to dissect these thoughts. The product became my possession, or 'pet.' In retrospect, this process gives me strength over myself; love -- knowledge and wisdom enacted. The arrangement of the music and the Pet itself relates to my endless struggle, namely, my attempts to reclaim myself." Pet follows James K's appearance on Dial's 2015 15th-anniversary compilation All (DIAL 032CD) and a 2015 mini-LP from her noise-pop project Seth (with producer Gobby) released on 1080p. LP version. In the wake of the release of Dial's 2015 15th-anniversary compilation All (DIAL 032CD), one track seemed to be praised above all others: Dawn Mok's "Like Thought or Moments We'll Fall." It's an intensely touching piece produced by Berlin-based artist Felix Mura. Dial is honored to present the artist's full-length debut, Eternal Love, a journey into deep, dark shades of future RnB. Over a year of production and sound design, Dawn Mok has created a wonderful, surprising milestone of contemporary dance music and beyond. Mixed by Finland's Ville Haimala (Renaissance Man) and mastered by Rashad Becker (PAN). Artwork by Dan DeNorch.
