Echospace continues their series of Radius's Interpolation Tapes with Restoration 2/3. Hot on the heels of 2018's Obsolete Machines [Stage Two], Radius's cassette demo restoration project returns to form with the Interpolation Tapes series. The original source tapes had aged, warped, and degraded and as a result the present release has preserved the best segments, sampled and reprocessed with a vintage Prophet 2000 sampler, studio 440 and various Linn samplers to add depth and range to the original source material. Echospace have spent nearly an entire year restoring and interpolating over 100 hours of music, processing sound and redesigning the blueprints of this long-forgotten project. Every track was originally recorded down to an old Tascam 688, an eight-track cassette recorder purchased and abused since 1992 and these tracks to our ears still sounds quite impressive, even by modern standards. Interpolation Tapes [Restoration 2/3] is the second part, following Interpolation Tapes [Restoration One] (RDS 002CD, 2017) in a series of three releases featuring unreleased material culled from the vault of the long out of print Radius project, an ageless analog tapestry of sound. This release features eight tracks revisited and restored from analog cassette tapes with recordings conducted from 1994-2001 with nothing but analog/digital hardware. The original source tapes had aged, warped and degraded and as a result Echospace has preserved the best segments, sampled and reprocessed them into an entirely new sonic spectrum. It's been a truly nostalgic experience re-visiting and re-arranging these masters. Regardless of the time passed, there's so much depth and organic movement that the music nearly breathes in slow motion. When considering the limitations of hardware in the era these were recorded, they've truly aged like a fine wine.

Echospace concludes Radius's Interpolation Tapes series with Interpolation Tapes [Restoration 3/3]. Following on from Interpolation Tapes [Restoration 2/3] (RDS 004CD, 2018) and Interpolation Tapes [Restoration One], (RDS 002CD, 2017), this marks the last release in this three-part edition of the Radius project, and it is quite possibly the favorite of the series. The final installment features three tracks flirting with the deepest spectrum of dubbed out analog bliss, enchanting, hypnotizing, and moving all at the same time. Restored and redesigned from analog cassette tapes with recordings conducted from 1994-2001 recorded exclusively with analog/digital hardware, the original source tapes had aged, warped and degraded and as a result Echospace has preserved the best segments, sampled and reprocessed them into an entirely new sonic spectrum. Regardless of the time passed, there's so much depth and organic movement that this music nearly breathes in slow motion. In reflection of the many years of development of the DEMF/Movement festival since its inception coupled with the near 15-year anniversary of these releases (and the first live appearance of DeepChord at DEMF with Mike Schommer), Echospace announce the continuation of their archival edition. Many of these releases -- originally appearing on Octal Records -- took center stage on the walls of the dance room at Record Time (circa 2001) canned by Detroit legend, Mike Huckaby. This release will mark the fourth installment to the coveted series and returns to form with a stone cold classic from the DC Trax vault. The first time ever released on CD, lovingly remastered and assembled by Rod Modell. Great measures, focus, and time were spent to preserve the analog warmth and sonic integrity of the original masters. For those who don't know, these releases are considered by many as some of the most inspired and influential sounds to emerge from Detroit well over 15 years ago -- a blueprint was set here for many artists to come, a step in the evolution. Expect gorgeous plumes of sound deeper than the ocean floor -- a rich analog tapestry made in the heart of Detroit, techno city. A beautiful analog tapestry made in the heart of Detroit, techno city. Includes unreleased material. Comes in a digipak with retro matte UV finish.

Hot off the heels of the beautiful Obsolete Machines LP (2017), Radius's cassette demo restoration project returns to form with the Interpolation Tapes series. The original source tapes had aged, warped, and degraded and as a result Echospace have preserved the best segments, sampled and reprocessed with a vintage Prophet 2000 sampler, Studio 440, and various Linn samplers to add depth and range to the original source material. Nearly every component has been replaced and re-calibrated to bring this obsolete machine back to life. It's been a truly nostalgic experience re-visiting and re-arranging these masters, regardless of the time passed, there's so much depth in sound design, raw emotions and when considering the limitations of hardware in the era these were recorded, they've truly aged like a fine wine... Shorelights' "Summer Cottage Music" is a project exquisitely emulating an environment to drift and engage in quiet relief, one that is highly-dynamic and seriously sublime. Soundscapes from the keen minds of Rod Modell, Walter Wasacz, and Chris McNamara with obscure field recordings conducted by the late Michael Mantra. Summer Cottage Soundscapes was recorded in the drizzle at Armstrong's Lakeport Resort Campground, Lakeport Michigan, in the spring of 2017. A quadraphonic recording; EQ curves optimized for low-volume playback; Mastered to Tandberg TD20A. Field recordings via Sound Devices 702, Core-Sound High End Binaural Microphones, and Marantz PMD-430 stereo cassette, and Crown SASS Microphone. The sound of sitting on the back-porch, watching Lake Huron during a spring drizzle; strange lights glistening in the trees; the omnipresent pulse of Mother Earth in the countryside. Quiet sonics/energies not experienced in today's busy metropolises. This and a pair of headphones is a ticket to a lakeside camp in a warm spring rain. Sensuous and evocative. A 60-minute sound sphere designed for escapism and exquisitely emulates an environment to drift and engage in quiet relief, one that is highly-dynamic and seriously sublime. Comes in a digipak with retro matte UV finish.

Hypnagogia is a word that describes the experience of transitioning from wakefulness into deep sleep. Mental phenomena that occur during this "threshold consciousness phase" include lucid thought, lucid dreaming, hallucinations, and sleep paralysis. A601-2's Shibuya Hypnagogia is a 61-minute generative-music composition designed to induce the shift from full awareness into a state of deep delta. It's an alien transmission from the threshold of perception - a tool for introducing shifting gradients of consciousness. Trans-dimensional voices drift in-and-out over an ocean of gentle sonic-cascades, sonic lifeforms hover weightlessly in your listening space with sounds of ghosts in the wires. Nocturnal field recordings from Tokyo (Shibuya/Shinjuku) combined with prototype generative-music composition software to form this otherworldly audio landscape. Mastering curves optimized for low-level playback. Tokyo recordings captured via Sound Devices 702 and Core Sound High End Binaural Microphones (DPA 4060 capsules). Mixed in real-time to a Tandberg TD20A recorder.

Echospace have spent years going through the analog tapes from the archives of cv313, aka Rod Modell and Stephen Hitchell. Here they present the long sold out LP edition of Dimensional Space from cv313, finally available on CD. Echospace pay tribute to the brilliant artwork from Lindsay Todd at Firecracker and House Of Traps and the superbly mastered recordings from Bazza at Alchemy Mastering, London. This edition features selected content from the LP set and unreleased versions of "Isis" and a killer new cut from the Beyond The Clouds sessions titled "Beyond Dreams". This edition also features two unreleased cuts which were scheduled to come out on the LP edition of the album but were omitted due to budgetary concerns, never to be heard - until now. This might be the soundtrack to the other side of the galaxy, a place where space meets bass.

The first solo album from Rod Modell (Deepchord) in nearly ten years, following up 2007's Incense & Black Light comes in lush form with, Mediterranea. Clocking in at 72 minutes, this cerebral epic reveals a sense of timelessness and stillness, an exquisite portrayal of reflection that is sonically enriching and emotionally engaging. Opening with field recordings conducted while abroad in the islands of Spain, Mediterranea sculpts a sublime sense of nuance that creeps into fore as time passes, gradually enveloping and evolving into what sounds like an orchestra playing from the fathomless ends of the ocean. The quiet jazz-induced snare percussion honors the melody hidden deep beneath the surface. Congas and tribal rhythms accentuate its colorful and vibrant dream-like melodies that slowly expose themselves into the mix. Haunting, alluding to the symphonic, its emotional depth shift gradually, revealing the underlying, subconscious tonal colors. The magic and lushness of the strings, the beautiful resonance of the violin and the love felt in each key stroke tugs right at the heart strings. Echospace considers Mediterranea to possibly be the most beautiful and inviting piece from Rod. Absolutely stunning, transitional sonic art.

Echospace present the secondary edition of Variant's Sequential Sleep, a beautiful complement to the original, but at the same time, entirely unique. Taking the foundation and elements of [Volume One] (SEQ 001CD, 2016) and stripping it back into the ether; dubbed out and treated from reel-to-reel tape creating an almost vaporous atmosphere all of its own - deep, organic and mystical. Utilizing a combination of purely analog mixing, a variety of field recording methods and dubbing it in real time - hands on the controls, no edits, no computer, just the ghostly harmonics and shivery bi-products you would come to expect of obsolete vintage electronics. The analog warmth has never sounded so sweet, mixed at antique modulation in Ann Arbor. Double CD housed in a beautiful retro matte finished eco wallet with UV coat.

Variant is a solo project of Stephen Hitchell, who is one half of the massively influential Echospace project with DeepChord's Rod Modell. Their landmark 2007 album The Coldest Season on the celebrated Modern Love imprint was named album of the year in over 40 different magazines around the world and was listed as one of "The Best Albums Of The Decade" in Resident Advisor. The Detroit/Chicago duo also record under a variety of monikers (cv313, DeepChord presents Echospace, Intrusion, and Phase90), but Hitchell uses the Variant project to release his more long-form ambient dub and ambient techno recordings. Variant's albums invoke various celestial phenomena ranging from comets to stars to the aurora borealis. The cosmic preoccupation plays out in the music too, which ranges from warm analog space ambient infused with field recordings to more rhythmically active synthesizer loops and drones. On this edition (Element Five) he closes in on nearly 70 minutes of celestial magic; spellbinding and enchanting, this is a soundtrack for dreams. This dives deep into analog exploration, taking footnotes while pushing sonic boundaries to the future. This is the realm of sonic mysticism, a place where one can breathe, pray, love, and drift away into the ether. Cloud-surfing an electric wave of vibrational pulses in slow motion, flotation of the soul. The newly inspired elements of this series bridge the gap between modular movements of the '70s and the reflective atmospherics of dream sphere. Cosmic sonic therapy. The sound simply floats around you while drifting thru the vortex.

Rays of light engulf the traveler, and what was once imagined as submission is now met with forwardness upon the hope for tranquility. Symphony of sounds and colors materialize brightly as sensations are heightened in lieu of warmth. The mind's horizon is one that wants to be shared and celebrated for this shape-shifting soundscape is the essence. Restraint is forgotten, and rebelliousness is forgiven, and emotions roam freely. The vortex traveled brightens, and you become the vibrational wave. The illusion reveals the nature of this reality, and the awakening is relief that lives on. The Detroit duo, DeepChord and Echospace also record under a variety of monikers (cv313, phase90, variant, etc.) and have continued to carve out an evocative, immersive sound born out of a love and passion for analog circuitry, sound design, field recordings and non-conventional methods of recording. But it's also work that's quintessentially building upon the Detroit electronic scene where it was born, and that divine marriage of roots and vision make the work at once so highly considered, so pertinent and so timeless. On this new project they collaborate with one of their closest friends and mentor, the late Michael Mantra. Michael's theories on 'Brain Hemisphere Harmonic Healing' were instrumental in the development of vibrational and sonic therapy. His experiments in the neural affects of sound paved the way for what has now become healing music. Echospace plays Michael Mantra's Sea Shell City is a 70-minute voyage into the furthest depths of the mind, featuring three tracks of ambient drone-based sonic worlds. On this album, sounds were sculpted with the use of hydrophones, piezoelectric transducers, wind harps, and binaural dummy-head microphones creating snapshots of normally unheard sonic worlds. Analogue oceans in slow motion, allowing one's mind to float into those mystical quiet zones, the brain hemisphere-sync effect Michael Mantra fostered for nearly three decades is ever present. "We're continuously reflecting on the teachings of Michael and in his honor, preserving the essence of sound and vibrational healing through music for immersive journeys into the vast beauty of atmosphere, the mind, nature and the inner self. Mike believed that listening with our whole heart and soul was the key to enjoying life to the fullest. He created auditory gradients for changing states of mind, and believed sound was the key to unlocking unseen universes. He dedicated himself to the spiritual liberation of all sentient beings through his sound-works. Desmond K. Hill once said that Mike's neuro-soundtracks could "radically transform the way human beings function psychologically". After 20-30 minutes of listening, I was incredibly relaxed with a lasting sensation of well-being. No concerns or thought crowded my mind, firmly in the present as opposed to being under the influence of memory or worries about the future, completely located in the now, with intense clarity, and deeper crispness of visual perception and thought." - Echospace

Sequential Sleep is an ambient two-part CD release made for dreaming, a sonic travelogue set in multiple locations within a winter forest. Everything in its natural environment is magnified with a 7:1 field recorder that captures the purest form of nature. Utilizing newly developed forms of FM, granular, and modular synthesis allowed this project to unravel in totally unexpected ways, like a visitor on foreign lands. Harmonic, angelic sequences continuously ebb and flow, slowly moving, like the tides meeting an estuary. Slowly evolving electric currents fluctuate in their purest essence, possessing the closest reach toward a pure analog sound experience. The interchange and combination of field recordings and spectrum of sounds via various 16-step sequences becomes alive, taking on an organic yet expansive and three-dimensional sound design that is out of this world. In the space-time continuum, every sound travels back down to earth within the spatial expanse, where recordings take on their own natural life in paradisiac existence. Based on the Sufi teachings of sound-arpeggiation and vibration, this music's vibrational pull of oscillating frequencies is founded on chord repetition, so too like chants that heal and allow the mind to reach meditative states. These immersive zones are the platform for a pure, rejuvenating, aqueous, trance-like experience of endless possibilities. Freely flowing and comforted, just as a mother's womb, the unconscious mind embraces all. These are songs that warmly envelop, soothe, and heal the soul. Nearly 2.5 hours long, both sonic journeys are adaptations of the other and the essence of the vision. And its sequences are steps into a dream, the steps into enchantment. Behind and beyond these recordings lies the inspiration of its mysticism: "When we pay attention to nature's music we find that every thing on the earth contributes to its harmony. The trees joyously wave their branches in rhythm with the wind; the sound of the sea, the murmuring of the breeze, the whistling of the wind through rocks, hills and mountains; the flash of the lightning, and the crash of the thunder, the harmony of the sun and moon, the movements of the stars and planets, the blooming of the flower, the fading of the leaf, the regular alternation of morning, evening, noon, and night, all reveal to the seer the music of nature." --The Mysticism of Sound and Music. The opium of openness by which all that dream, in wakefulness, or in sleep become one in the same dream. . . .

ECHOSPACE 313-6
|
Remastered double CD edition of Intrusion's now-classic, The Seduction of Silence, named and nominated one of the "Best Albums of 2009" in numerous magazines and honorable mentions in The Wire, Mixmag, DJ, XLR8R, Textura, URB, GO, De-Bug, Groove, and plenty more. This double CD edition includes never-before-heard songs, outtakes and B-sides to sweeten the deal, none of which were found on the first physical release. "Stephen Hitchell's full-length debut under his Intrusion moniker literally picks up where his last full-length -- Echospace's 2007 epic The Coldest Season, recorded with partner-in-crime Rod Modell -- left off. The massive 'Empyrean' that closed The Coldest Season with a floor-friendly journey into dub techno was the album's most overtly Jamaican-sounding and beat-laden track, and the Intrusion sound finds its roots within its blueprint. If The Coldest Season's was an updated take on Basic Channel's glacial soundscapes, then The Seduction of Silence sees Hitchell bringing the more explicitly reggae-influenced sounds of Rhythm And Sound into the present -- including two cuts (one a chilled dub mix of the other) with the honeyed vocals of Paul St. Hilaire (aka Tikiman). The Caribbean lilt present throughout the album (last year's mighty 'Tswana Dub' single, included here, and the two cuts with St. Hilaire being the standout examples) lends a unified air to the proceedings. Hitchell slowly but surely increases the pace and intensity of the tracks from the opener 'Montego Bay' through to the shuddering, staggering 'Intrusion Dub' before pulling back on the reins with the slinky, sexy 'Seduction' and then alternates between the deadly intense and dead mellow on the album's back half before finally concluding with the sparkling ambient coda of 'Under the Ocean.' Hitchell's solo work is far more rhythmically adventurous and danceable than most Echospace material. The delayed and doctored analog pulses (no sequencers here, thanks) are adorned with a smattering of congas and other percussion, as well as a standard deep bass drum stomp and Studio 1-inspired bass lines. Make no mistake -- the album doesn't sound explicitly like King Tubby; it's more like his ghost is haunting your favorite Maurizio sides. Beyond the phased and echoed chords and analog atmospherics, though, there is a palpable sense of spirituality present here that distinguishes The Seduction of Silence from most other dub techno, which has a tendency to be cold and metallic. There's a warm, celestial quality in the melodies here that looks skyward, and St. Hilaire's cuts provide the perfect bookends to the album; the dubbed-out 'Angel Version' is track two, while the full vocal version 'Little Angel' comes second to last. The lovestruck, inspirational lyrics and St. Hilaire's soothing tones go a long way toward lending a definitive voice to the album that travels beyond mere vocals into a deeper meaning that transcends the ten tracks. Though individual highlights abound on The Seduction of Silence, the album works best when taken as a whole, an endorsement of Hitchell's vision for an expertly paced and executed album that raises the bar on the dub techno game to stratospheric levels. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better winter warmer than this; remember it with warm thoughts when winter returns later this year, when it's time for year-end polls." --Resident Advisor

"There's been a world of hurt in regard to this album, the original masters recorded from 1996-2010 were submerged underwater due to the flood in our home studio where boxes of old reels were never to be recovered again. Finally, years of restructure on live recordings and painstaking undulation in the restoration process have lead us to finally accomplish what so many expected wouldn't happen: an awakening of sagacious spirit. With that being said, it's our distinct honor to present the sonic world of Dimensional Space -- the highly-anticipated debut album from cv313. This album has taken a cosmic eclipse where two events collide for unison. The culmination of this project led to synergy, creative experience re-invented and re-imagined -- the flow of an astral vortex." --Echospace; The second CD includes mixes of track "Subtraktive" from artists such as The Sight Below, Reference, Deepchord Presents: Echospace, King Midas Sound, Instrusion, and Bvdub.

The "live" element is more present here than in past live performances, recorded utilizing a myriad of analog circuitry filled with lo-fi warmth and sonic soul; the trademark of echospace. Highly Recommended!

It's been nearly 5 years since Brock's highly-acclaimed White Clouds Drift On and On debuted on Echospace earning a plethora of critical acclaim, including many coveted top albums of the year list from Resident Advisor to The Wire. Brock returns in beautiful form with what he's said to Echospace is his most personal and self-defining moment in his fruitful musical career. This album, however, strikes a very different chord from the last; rather than find contentment in repeating himself, he's sculpted a unique sound slightly out of focus from his previous work, a sound one could only say is like drifting in and out of consciousness. A place where early LSD experiments reveal third dimensions of the mind and evoke emotions so powerful they haunt you forever. Here we see Brock's true dedication to vision, maturity and growth, the reason why so many people have gravitated to his heart-tugging productions. On, Home he paints a near 3-hour exploration so beautiful and hypnotic, the listener feels as if only moments passed by, a second to forever. This is a welcome return to form in the one place Brock refers to as, "home" here on Echospace. If Burial were to meet Eno in the studio of a BBC radio workshop session with tape masters sent to Steve Roach for further deconstruction, this might be the unique result, residing somewhere in the ether. Brock has truly blown us away yet again with another stunning masterpiece.

Echospace is pleased to introduce the second edition of Echospace [Detroit] archival editions, a special edition series focused on the rare, historical works of Deepchord. The long out-of-print Deepchord catalog has since been remastered and will finally be available again on this gorgeous triple LP set. The release includes photography by Rod Modell and 2 12"x12" (frame-able) photographs emphasizing the creative eye and instincts of the artist. It's been a lengthy and timely process restoring old analog tape, DAT and cassette recordings (some dating back to 1994) all of which have been carefully resurrected from the vault of Detroit's revered NSC Studio. The long out-of-print catalog has been remastered, mixed, and once again bounced down to tape to ensure the best possible listening experience. Great measures, focus and time were spent to preserve the analog warmth and sonic integrity of the original masters. For those who don't know, these releases are considered by many to be some of the most inspired and influential sounds to emerge from Detroit well over 10 years ago -- a blue-print was set here for many artists to come, a step in the evolution. Expect gorgeous plumes of sound deeper than the ocean floor, a rich analog tapestry made in the heart of Detroit, techno city. [includes the delayed 12" x 12" print originally intended for the previous volume ''07/08/09'' as well.]
