"Following our reissue of Silvano Chimenti's classic Disco Music, Holy Basil delves back into the Usignolo catalog with the reissue of C 364, one of the most iconic releases of the series, the incredible Antico E Moderno by Mario Molino. Bringing some of the most eccentric, chaotic and spaced-out vibes you could hear in the mid '70s, Molino's mind bending arrangements are timeless classics, still standing the test of time and showing how he was way ahead of his time. Literally translating to 'Ancient and Modern,' showcases Molino's unique blend of traditional and contemporary musical styles, creating a captivating auditory experience for listeners."

"Holy Basil is back digging through Flipper's legendary catalog, more precisely in the Octopus Records section, and after bringing back Alessandroni's Storie Di Guerra here is the return of Amedeo Tommasi's Telegiornale, released under his Atmo alias. The album opens with a cinematic and suspenseful overture that immediately draws the listener into its world. Tommasi's virtuosic piano playing takes center stage throughout the album, with his nimble fingers crafting intricate melodies that are both evocative and emotionally charged. The title itself, which translates to 'newscast' in Italian, hints at the album's concept of offering a musical narrative akin to the ever-changing stories and emotions conveyed through a news broadcast, captured in this beautiful Italian library recording."

"Besides being a leading session musician in Milan's jazz scene between the '60s and '90s, Italian pianist Oscar Rocchi created a number of exquisite library albums in the pop-jazz genre. These include among others Erbe Selvatiche, Pop-Paraphrenia and Woman's Colours (the latter cowritten with his friend Giancarlo Barigozzi) as well as Alchemy in Jazz, which is now available in digital format for the first time ever. Originally released on Ring, an imprint of Edizioni Minstrel, the album was recorded by a quintet featuring Rocchi on piano plus long-time collaborators Hugo Heredia (sax and flute), Sergio Fanni (trumpet), Gianni Cazzola (drums) and Furio Di Castri (double bass), and has since become a cult record in countries from the US to Japan, where it was released for the first time on CD in 2013. With a palette ranging from frenzied post-bop echoes ('Gold-Fast,' Nigredo') to sentimental nocturnal ballads ('Solution,' 'Rubedo') to cheerful modern-jazz vibes ('Mercury,' 'Silver-Bop,' 'Sulphur'), here Rocchi paints an elegantly syncopated musical fresco that, like the magical, alchemical process referred to in the title, transmutes the harsher aspects of jazz syntax into a graceful and more euphonic style that is approachable for jazz neophytes and yet enjoyable for seasoned jazz lovers."

"Una Magnum Special Per Tony Saitta (aka. Blazing Magnum: Strange Shadows In An Empty Room) is a cop movie directed in 1976 by Alberto De Martino and starring Stuart Whitman, Martin Landau, Tisa Farrow, and Gayle Hunnicutt. It was co-produced by Italy and Canada. An Ottawa police captain searches for the person who poisoned his sister, who was attending the university in Montreal. Later on, he desperately starts to use his own brutal methods to find the killer, but the truth turns out to be something different than what he had expected. Armando Trovajoli has composed and conducted a score that elegantly occupies a place of all respect in the Cops/Giallo movies' scoring. The score alternates between action-driven funky music to nostalgic/ romantic music in a reflection of the two dimensions of the protagonist: his cop job full of tasks and his private life full of sadness, but he becomes the superhero of the story by taking vengeance against those who hurt him by killing his beloved sister, and ultimately discovering the unexpected truth. For this vinyl album the original record master in stereo sound was used, restored and remastered to the highest quality. More or less the music in the movie is featured on this album, prepared for release by the composer himself for a very fine listening experience. Enjoy a half-hour with Armando Trovajoli and his cool sound!"

"Originally released in 1976 as part of the Background Music series on Piero Umiliani's own Liuto Records, Temi Descrittivi Per Piccolo Complesso is a real gem in the maestro's vast and intricate catalogue. Flutes and horns alternate with pianofender to create some magical, sweet and intimate atmospheres, crafting an abstract and mysterious soundscape that could reminisce of medieval times as much as some distant galaxies. We are happy to bring back Temi Descrittivi Per Piccolo Complesso in our series of reissues from his catalog, officially licensed by Piero Umiliani's family and available as a limited edition pressing of 500 copies."

"Following the release of Lee Selmoco's Mosaico, we continue our journey with Vedette Records to bring back to life part of their incredible catalog, with the reissue of the first instalment of the High Tension series by Lesiman. Born in Florence in 1935, Paolo Renosto, the man behind the moniker Lesiman, was an incredible composer, experimenter, music teacher and piano player whose amazing skills and sound research brought him to work with Luigi Dallapiccola and Bruno Maderna, as well as being a member of the Associazione Nuova Consonanza of Roma. He obviously joined, for some time, the renowned Gruppo d'Improvvisazione, with Franco Evangelisti and Domenico Guaccero. Released exactly 50 years ago and packed with dramatic tension, obscure drums and asphyxiating atmospheres revolving around the theme of war, composed with the additional input of Romolo Grano, Sandro Brugnolini and Guido Baggiani, this first volume in the series is a holy grail in Italian libraries as well as a prime example of 'music especially crafted for films, television, radio, publicity and industrial use'. Now available on vinyl for the first time as a limited edition of 500 copies."

Various experimental elements perfectly intertwine in these skillful compositions, VCS3 blend with hair-raising violin notes on a pattern of ominous percussions by Egisto Macchi. "Francesco Anselmo, also known as Lee Selmoco, Dorsey Dodd, Alex Brown, Arsenio Bracco or Tommy Ruff, is an Italian keyboardist that covered the role of artistic director for Vedette Records, historical Italian imprint founded by director and violinist Armando Sciascia, and also recorded for its notorious Phase 6 Super Stereo, its sub-label focused on instrumental records and production music. Mosaico (Le Tastiere Di Lee Selmoco) is an incredible display of his creative and composing skills, featuring 14 tracks of what could be classified as 'happy music', with killer electric organ and rhythms alternating with fuzzy guitars and spacey/psychedelic hints thrown in for good measures, written alongside Guido Baggiani, alias Ruscigan. We are very happy to start a series of reissues from the Vedette Records catalog with the first ever reissue of this title after 50 years from its original release, and since the original pressing did not feature the correct track listing, it is reissued here for the first time in its correct version!"

"Directed in 1972 by Romano Scavolini, Un Bianco Vestito Per Mariale' features a cast with some familiar faces from the Italian thriller genre like Evelyn Stewart and Ivan Rassimov. The film was scored by a great name of the Italian film music scene, Fiorenzo Carpi, whose music was superbly arranged and conducted with his own and unique great style by Bruno Nicolai. Originally released on vinyl by Gemelli in 1975, three years after the release of the movie, this score is dominated by the Mariale' theme both with Piano and orchestra and Edda Dell'Orso's voice and orchestra versions, and also features several lounge and tensive themes. Long out-of-print, Holy Basil Records are proud to bring this beautiful soundtrack back on vinyl as a limited edition of 500 copies, including the instrumental version of 'Mariale'' and an alternative arrangement of 'Garden Party', available on vinyl for the first time."

"On May 27th 1983, drummer Masahiko Togashi and guitarist Masayuki Takayanagi, two pivotal figures in the Japanese free jazz scene that had been working together since the 1960's, performed and record this unique set at Zojoji Hall in Tokyo. At the time, Japanese jazz musicians were trying to find their own voice, welcoming creative elements coming in from the USA and Europe. The two musicians were at the fore-front of this generation, with Takayanagi developing his own guitar style through influences of mainstream and more extreme jazz, and drummer Togashi had developed a unique approach to drums and percussions, using silence as an integral part of music making, also due to an accident that forced him on a wheelchair after 1970. The record is divided in two tracks ('Inner Pulsation' and 'Outer Pulsation'), each one about 22 minutes in length, mirroring the original LP sides. The performance can be regarded as a single piece though, with a clearly symmetrical structure, even if the musicians cover much musical ground over the course of the album. The extreme abstractness of the music guarantees many possibilities, but the main themes here are pure sound and space, investigated through a massive use of silence, ever-changing dynamics and slow structural developments unfolding with a mysterious musical logic. Originally released on iconic Japanese label Paddle Wheel and out-of-print for a very long time, the album has become a very sought-after collector's item and we are glad to bring this back on vinyl in collaboration with King Record Co."

Reissue, originally released in 1975. "Considered by many one of the most gifted and outstanding players in the Electone community thanks to his fresh, energetic, rhythmic and sometimes humorous style of playing, from 1975 to 1977 Shigeo Sekitō released a four-LP album set titled Special Sound Series for the iconic Nippon Columbia. On the first chapter of this series, Sekitō revisits, in his own colourful style, compositions such as 'You Are The Sunshine Of My Life' by Stevie Wonder, 'Oh, My Love' by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, 'Andalucia' by Ernesto Lecuona, alongside some of his own composition such as 'My Sweet Girl' and the title track 'Catch In Alice', creating a blend of easy-listening jazz with funk and soul influences. Long out of press, we are very proud to bring this 'brilliant electone' album back on vinyl under exclusive license from Nippon Columbia. Licensed to Holy Basil Records by Nippon Columbia Co., Ltd."

Reissue, originally released in 1980. "Composed by legendary library guitarist and founding member of I Gres, Silvano Chimenti, and accompanied by his orchestra, Disco Music is an essential release of the Usignolo catalog and probably one of the most sought-after titles of the series. This album displays a broad range of styles masterfully blended together by Chimenti, going from disco-funky bangers "Happy California" and "Autostrade Americane" that lead way to the more dramatic and suspenseful vibes of "Society Problem" and "Tragedy", finishing off with the rock vibes of "Indian Summer" and the mellow atmospheres of softer, lounge-like songs such as "Lady Primavera" and "Chiara". One of the most complete and well-rounded library albums of its era, Disco Music is finally available on vinyl once again after a very long time as a limited edition pressing of 500 copies. Licensed to Holy Basil Records."

First released in 1987, the songs recorded for Dreams For Sax are a beautiful mélange of easy-listening electronic and jazzy vibes, from mellow tunes such as 'Dawning' and 'First Class' to some killer floor-filling Italo disco bangers such as 'Walking On Air' and 'Dance Power'. As the title might already suggest, the 14 songs bring an incredibly fresh mix of sounds and flavors, each one named after a different spirit, with every single track floating around different soundscapes and atmospheres. Whether it be a gin & tonic poolside, a melancholic drink of Strega on the hills of southern Italy or some Kümmel by a Dutch canal, this masterpiece has got something for every taste.
