2020 release. "There is an endless abundance of variations that the clarinet can use in changing the color of a single note. As a privileged listener -- and -- experiencer, Ben Bertrand through his favorite instrument shared the musical blueprints with me, which resulted in this album. His music has become a vivid part of my almost daily thoughts -- allowing what I hear to clash and sing with the patterns and rhythms already established in my mind. A voluntary trip, an absorbing experience in our Brussels vibrant cultural life. With his instrument and countless machines, Ben creates a web of sounds that are hard to pin down but easy to absorb as a whole. Ben Bertrand happened to me. His music, full of beauty, is good to listen to and pleasant to follow. A sense and perception of continued growth too illuminated and overwhelming to resist. While I sense when a new composition is coming, Ben was able in our daily conversations, to progressively untangle a musical mystery and layout the puzzle of a new creation. Listening to his music is like sitting at the sea, watching a slow motion of our crazy life sailing by. You, as a listener, with this record stepped in an early stage of his career, with hardly any involvement of other people, composition wise. Besides composing alone, there have been countless hours when Ben Bertrand worked and interacted with Christophe Albertijn for the recordings. There is also the essence of our regular exchanges and the visions we knit. These are in my opinion just the starting points of plural interactions and musical endeavors to be. It is a matter of his artistic trust and let go, while Ben creates his own language, package and macrocosm. The excellence of Ben Bertrand's music lays in its involving and easily accessible nature, regardless of your personal or musical past experience. Ben Bertrand is all before you for you to dig, and nobody is asking you to file him away under any category." --Tommy Denys Personnel: Ben Bertrand - compositions, bass clarinet, electronics; Claire Vailler - voice on "The Manmaipo".

After From 0 to 90, released in 2020 on the British label Phantom Limb, Humbros returns with Druidarium, always with this focus on the mixture, the hybridization of synthetic and acoustic sounds. Captured in the mass, the eleven pieces are a concentrate of the different mediums and materials explored by the duo during four days of improvisation in the Ateliers Claus studio in December 2020. Eleven scenes, panoramic or microscopic faux-field-recordings, strewn with stridulations and buzzes, from which sometimes emanate melodies seeming to escape from occult radios, from a deserted hotel hall, or even from a festive parade. Sound environments with different depths, textures, and distances made possible by the movement of microphones in space, the use of different types of speakers as well as a multitude of acoustic and electronic percussion played on both sides of the studio. Recorded by Christophe Albertijn at Les Ateliers Claus. Mixed by Etienne Foyer. Mastering by scape Mastering / Stefan Betke. Artwork by Valentin Verron.

Eric Copeland is a Brooklyn- based experimental musician and a core member of Black Dice. Eric is also one-half Terrestrial Tones duo, finding Animal Collective's Avey Tare on the other end of that project. Copeland continues on his path of deconstruction forming tracks of scrapped samples, damaged loops, and controlled chaos. On the new album Spiral Stairs, Eric Copeland offers seven avant-pop tracks packed with playful sequences, groovy bass lines, and catchy voiceovers. The compositions are full of multiple layers of sample collages, frequently shifting from one variation to another but far from being messy, rather suggesting the tidy logic of DJ and dancer-friendly songs. Somehow Copeland manages to pull through with his demented pop sensibilities crawling up from the muck and sprawling out on the beach to catch a tan. Spiral Stairs is as addictive as it is confusing with its screwed vocal hooks and demented twang heard throughout. A brilliant mix of riotous and cheerful makes it effortless to stick with it and dance to it. Following several releases on DFA, L.I.E.S., and Paw Tracks.

Ben Bertrand weaves transverse waves into otherworldly compositions. He embodies the singular motion of these melodic and harmonic forms in order to draft new sonic possibilities freed from the laws of the physical plane. Pulsating at the kernel of Ben Bertrand's musical universe are vivid dreams generating the fabric of these tapestries. Dokkaebi is deeply familiar yet refreshingly unknown, like a comforting whisper from your subconscious. It gently drifts into perception, glistening like the sun sparkling off a glacier gliding along the edge of your vision. Deep listening to these tonal sculptures is enriching. By opening oneself to their deliberate unfolding, you will discover new principles for sound organization far afield from common modes of operation. The gradual, rhythmic progression of his compositions are ever-shifting grains, which upon thoughtful contemplation, reveal astonishing worlds. Bertrand's music is constructed from blueprints drafted with honest intentions aspiring to bring humans closer to a sense of wonder. Ben Bertrand welcomes each listener to discover his music anew from their own perspectives. It is infinitely in time with your time. These are the ripples in the wake of successive revolutions of universal evolution. Dokkaebi is an example of musical expressions adapting to the contours of the human psyche through gentle reflection of multiplicity. They are sounds reshaping themselves to suit the contours of each individual's subconscious -- sonic entities projected simultaneously as molecular and holistic. Dokkaebi is an oceanic expression softly set in motion by honest aims that echo and grow. Ben Bertrand beckons you to listen up and look in. There is great reward in this generous flow. Dokkaebi is the third album by the Belgian composer and bass clarinet player. Ben Bertrand was accompanied by Christina Vantzou, Geoffrey Burton, Indré Jurgeleviciuté, Echo Collective (Margaret Hermant & Neil Leiter), and Otto Lindholm.

Lennert Jacobs's music is an echo of his imagination, inevitably reflecting and reinforcing a natural philosophy of enlightenment. L. Jacobs employs modern and classical instruments to enhance and distill a spirit of humanity through his aesthetic currency of sound. Surveying his debut album Enthusiasm and its instinctive impulses delivers a sublime sonic experience. Specifics of musical styles fade obliquely in service of resonance on a deeper level -- sound speaking on a universal language with innately humorous wonkiness whirling you into a state of pure delight. Kaleidoscopic keyboards shape a celebration of freedom and spontaneity. With warped beats, the songs clatter in crafted structures to create obscure alternative atmospheres. 'Enthusiasm' is a sonic lens that lands right from the first moment you hear it, a showcase of musical talent and intuitive expression. Lennert Jacobs does an excellent job of investing and producing mainly instrumental compositions which manage to touch on a wide variety of emotions over the course of their unfolding. The works on Enthusiasm are synthetic creatures, living and growing autonomously. The duality of the composer is on full holistic display: the lighter side -- relaxing, ethereal, and dreamy, and the darker -- disturbing and uncanny. This is a sonic transportation and cerebral massage. Stick a needle in it to activate. Silkscreened cover art; edition of 350.

Los Angeles-based duo Sana Shenai began in 2009 when their Dublab radio-affiliated ambient quintet Golden Hits went on hiatus. Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel, The Postal Service) and Mitchell Brown (LAFMS, Sun Araw, Sissy Spacek) have since amassed a mountain of material culled from ten years of home recording. In late 2018, the five-song digital EP Forewarm was released by Leaving Records, which now joins seven other pieces on this physical debut double-LP for Les Albums Claus, Warm Former. Brown reveals: "We initially set out to make oddball minimal techno using '50s-80s musique concrete studio techniques and modular synthesizers. This almost happened, perhaps best exemplified by the cut 'Humid Beings', but even by the first session's end we'd given in to the open-endedness of our gear, jamming entirely different stuff." Warm Former's sound palette is vast with plenty of almosts and could bes, hosting shape-shifting polyglot sound-field games to investigate, decipher and re-decipher. Tracks "Frozen Host" and "Laqua" might be considered uncanny and reminiscent of memories not quite your own. "No One There to Confirm" is the moody melodic sprawler that heavily features both Serge and Buchla synths. Wonky, splice-y ¼"analog tape loops are hiding all over this album but are definitely the stars on "Wizard A Baby". "Worm Farmer" might be the most accessible tune, falling near the crossroads of motorik '70s krautrock and the sprightlier side of Tamborello's own Dntel catalog. Includes printed inner sleeve.

Presenting ten experimental/ambient compositions performed live in a living room in 2017 with a Buchla Music Easel, and some pedals, then edited. "I've felt more and more anger and frustration over the last few years. I set up a little mini-studio in my living room where i could make drones and noodle around while looking out the window. I thought of it as a way to meditate and to create something in a time when it felt kind of pointless to create anything. This tape is a collection of moments from those hours of recordings, edited down and adorned a little..." --Jimmy Tamborello

Alkisah is the new album by Indonesian duo Senyawa. Alkisah is co-released by a multitude of independent record labels from all over the globe each with different packaging and design, with multiple version of remixes by various artists. Senyawa is an experimental music duo made up of Rully Shabara (extended vocal technique) and Wukir Suryadi (homemade instrument). The music that they create is a combination of extended vocal technique and a homemade instrument. The instrument was handcrafted by master instrument builder Wukir out of one long piece of bamboo, it is a string instrument with guitar pick-ups -- it is amplified and processed through several effects pedals but at times is played as an acoustic instrument, percussion, and string instrument. They are located in the ancient city of Jogjakarta, Central Java, Indonesia and their music is a reflection of their traditional Javanese heritage filtered through a framework of contemporary experimental music practices. Senyawa try to push the boundaries of both traditions in an attempt to mix music of the east and the west to create a new sound. As a duo they have been performing and playing together extensively for the last three years and have toured Indonesia several times over. They were invited to perform internationally for the first time at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival sharing the stage with many great musicians such as Faust, Yoshida Tatsuya, Tony Conrad, and Charlemagne Palestine. "Senyawa's music rises from the belly of the beast and crawls out of its gaping maw. Each wail, drone, and plucked guitar string from the experimental Indonesian duo evokes the feeling of deep-set hunger; every sound contributes to the tension." --Whitney Wei, Pitchfork (2018)

Early summer 2019, João Lobo started recording his compositions at les Ateliers Claus in Brussels, with guitarist Norberto Lobo, bassist Soet Kempeneer, and recording engineer Christophe Albertijn. The recording sessions were planned over the course of one week, however the job was mostly done in just a few takes. With the addition of some overdubs, the whole process was finalized in a spontaneous wave. It is too simplistic to define Joao Lobo's compositions with one term, and the association of the album Simorgh with this ingenious partnership's new creations, is inevitable. While the mix of genres and styles may be easy to distinguish, the focus centers on the result of the mixing: a highly grooving and an occasionally paused and introspective music that seems out of time and out of space. It is difficult to grasp or define a specific period in time or a geographic origin in this fusion of references, as what you listen to is a bold creation of original and surprising elements. Drummers -- such as João Lobo -- employ a multi-layered concept in their music, weaving the different tracks into a linear wash of sound. He plays the song with the drum set while the other members fly in and out of the compositions, always gathering around their phoenix in order to attain enlightenment. What João Lobo and many of his contemporaries are up to, can be explained through simple terms as a future exploration of the emotionally expressive possibilities of sound. It breaks away from the conventional order providing space for the discovery of a new order. Simultaneously it allows a more profound and broader expression of what the current reality of music is and represents. It was instantly clear for me that we had to share his music with our audience and create this medium for happiness. This release is the trio's debut record, which is the impetus for their personal development in the realization that features João as a mentor in the creation process. The featured compositions highlight the musicians' unique physical aspect to control their instruments and their hidden techniques that underlying these tracks. The result is an ongoing aural interplay. It was love at first sound. This album is a co-release between Les Albums Claus and Shhpuma.
