RELEASE DATE: 12/13/2024
In 2015, Membranes released their first album for 25 years. It was a critically acclaimed double album about life, death, and the universe. An ambitious work, it became the band's best-selling album in a long and unconventional career. Dark Matter / Dark Energy was both the band's critically acclaimed return and best-selling release and, due to public demand, it is now reissued as a double vinyl album in stunning and experimental, ground-breaking new artwork and packaging. The album was inspired by Membranes' John Robb, meeting John Incandela the head scientist from the CERN project at a TEDx talk they were both giving. Incandela had just completed his work on the Higgs Boson particle project, and Robb became friends with him and other scientists from the project. Their conversations about the universe were mind-blowing, and the album attempted to capture these in musical form. The band toured the album around the world, supporting The Stranglers, The Sisters Of Mercy, and Mark Lanegan, who called the Membranes one of his favorite all-time post-punk bands and said that "John Robb is a legend -- I'm truly honored to know him." The Membranes were formed in Blackpool in the late seventies and were big John Peel and music press favorites with their innovative bass driven discordant "Death To Trad Rock" sound providing a template and influence for many bands over the years including Big Black, Mercury Rev, The Wedding Present and even the likes of the Lambchop who covered them. John Robb is also a well-known face on TV and radio as well as running the Louder Than War music and culture website and writing best-selling books like Punk Rock - An Oral History and The Art Of Darkness - The History Of Goth. The new edition of the album comes in revolutionary and stunning new artwork gatefold sleeve, complete with lyric sheet, and a poster of the original album cover, all of which captures its interstellar themes.

Blackpool based noise rock and punk trio Those Fucking Snowflakes are a vibrant clash of political punk, hardcore rock, and math rock that has been getting the likes of Tom Robinson and Gideon Coe as well Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods. The band formed as a means to scream the dread and horror faced in these confusing times of our modern society. From the current mess of the UK political system to the intolerance of, well, everything. From race and gender to such simple items as Greggs releasing a Vegan Sausage Roll, the band are shouting about it backed with a tight unique sound and occasional off kilter humor. The band have self-released two EPs: U Ok Hun? and Straight Wealthy White Male Suffrage on their own label The Recording Industry Is Dead, Records.

The older brother of Nicky Wire from the Manic Street Preachers, Patrick Jones is a brilliant poet whose hypnotic Welsh lilt empowers his compassionate and very human lyrics full of community and love in these Brexit times with a lone political voice. The 21st Century Dylan Thomas has recorded this album with the Membranes' John Robb who provides the haunting musical pieces, scoring powerful classical strings backings full of the same drama and landscapes as the words. Renegade Psalms, 18 months in the making. The personal is the political. The political has become personal. Raging words and brooding beats. A sonic document of our times. Jones takes aim at borders, the bedroom tax, the monarchy, Tory dismantling of the welfare state, greed, and austerity whilst celebrating the resilience of the human spirit, love, the power of literature and the growing tide of protest as Robb's atmospheric soundscapes fill the grooves with a sense of emotional urgency."Then the world will be for the common people, and the sounds of happiness will reach the deepest springs. Ah! Come! People of every land, how can you not be roused." --The Communist Manifesto, 1848.
"a cunning concoction of laissez-faire and big brother a meticulous maledicta that sets one against another as Starbucks and Amazon find new ways to fall beneath the radar the most vulnerable, the sick, the poor are targeted by IDS, the moral crusader" --from "Demonise or Die" (for Stephanie Bottrill) .

10" version. "The songs follow no rules. There are no reference points. It's utterly original. You type out words like Patti Smith or The Slits but that's lazy old man thinking." --John Robb
When John Robb saw Glove (from Liverpool) play a year ago he was blown away. "It's impossible to see anything as vibrant or totally original as this but Glove are captivating, fiercely intelligent and can turn any room into a physical and mental hoe down. With the same sort of poetic skree as primetime Patti Smith that makes you think and feel alive and minimalist stripped down music played on one bass and one tom they deliver an invigorating set of emotions and I knew I had to release this their debut EP which I also produced." Glove is collaboration between artists SloSilver and Stephanie Finegan. It flowed forth that now is the time for Glove. And so, from one sleepy jam, 12 songs were born.
"When you have been to thousands of gigs but still retain the hunger for the new, a rare WTF moment is worth a million dollars. Every now and then, at one of these music showcase events, you see band that changes your life. Again. A mesmerising, talismanic piece of magic that is beyond. Glove is that band. Two wild painted women who turn music inside out and reinvent the wheel. Stunning. We walk into the back room of one pub to see our first band and our minds are blown by Glove -- nothing is going to match these two wired women who are oozing art, poetry and a musical brilliance that sets your mind racing and your heart pounding. There's is a stripped-down basic sound -- rhythm comes from a pounding tom tom played against a bass or in other songs a scratchy guitar. It's pounding and highly effective -- most of the songs are given a running bass line backbone and the minimalistic, no wave combination is perfect for the poetry in motion of the vocals that switch between volumes of wild-eyed beat poetry and stunningly sung vocal lines." --Louder Than War
"Something entirely revolutionary. Minds were blown." --Drowned In Sound

Double LP version. Gatefold sleeve. The Membranes released their first album in 26 years with the critically acclaimed Dark Matter/Dark Energy (2015). The album received great reviews all over the world and lots of radio play. An ambitious album, it was sparked by a meeting between John Robb and the head of the CERN project which inspired the songs about the universe, life and death with the death of Robb's father feeding into the songs. Many fellow musicians and authors also called it their album of the year from author Ian Rankin to Mark Lanegan to the Manic Street Preachers. The Membranes decided on another ambitious project - to remix the whole of the album with special guests. The result is Inner Space/Outer Space - a re-envisioning of the whole album. Remixes by: Manic Street Preachers, Phillip Boa, Mark Lanegan, Clint Mansell, Godflesh, Tunnelmental Assembly, Black Yoga Collective, Reverend And The Makers, Keith Levene, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Youth from Killing Joke, Harry Stafford from Inca Babies, Therapy, In The Nursery, Bartak and Einsturzende Neubauten.

Like Hawkwind on even more acid or Sunn O))) meets Butthole Surfers/P.I.L. with four bassists and droning powerful songs... Those masked marauding architects of cacophonic, bombastic, psychedelic, bass-bothering rock have been at it again, making another album of unrivalled and quintessentially unique rock music. To say that Everybody Come to Church has been eagerly awaited in many quarters is an understatement; fellow Northwest England-based musician Mr. Mark E. Smith, who's been heard to say of the Blizzard, "I like Evil Blizzard, they give me hope that music is alive and kicking," would no doubt agree. The Guardian are also huge fans of the band, having featured them on their cover and described them as "a fearsome collision of Hawkwind, krautrock, molten noise, dazzling psychedelic lights and weird, gnarly looking masks." The album was "recorded live in one day with minimal overdubs at Magnetic North Studios... a fierce, spontaneous outburst of evil noise." They had only four songs written before entering the studio and the rest of the album just happened around ideas they'd had kicking around. Everybody Come to Church features eight tracks of brooding, sinister psychedelic rock that will melt your mind and soul.

The Nightingales were formed by vocalist Robert Lloyd, formerly of The Prefects (part of The Clash's "White Riot Tour," John Peel favorites, etc.), recorded a bunch of albums and 45s in the 1980s, and played shows throughout Europe as headliners and in support of acts as diverse as Bo Diddley and Nico, but stopped working when Lloyd decided to combine a solo career with money-earning manual labor. In 2004, Lloyd reformed the band, not as a nostalgia act performing old material for the entertainment of the affluent and aging ex-punk/indie brigade, but as an uncompromising, confrontational contemporary group. After much coming and going of various mercenary, starry eyed, wastrel and/or part time musicians, Lloyd met Andreas Schmid during the recording of Insult to Injury in 2008; Schmid joined the band and the group, as Lloyd says, "got good." The Nightingales then "got great" when former Violet Violet drummer Fliss Kitson joined the group before the recording of No Love Lost in 2012. This lineup (completed by original Prefect Alan Apperley on guitar) became a top-notch live unit and, following the sold-out, self-released For Fuck's Sake LP (2014), the streamlined four-piece Nightingales embarked on their most successful UK tour to date before writing and recording Mind Over Matter in September, 2014, at the end of a short tour of Germany and Austria. Mind Over Matter is a short, sharp blast of melody, rhythm, irritation, and humor. The group might play around but does not fuck around. They may indulge themselves but do not waste your time. They could be insane but are most certainly diligent. The album is released to coincide with a session for Marc Riley's BBC 6 Music show on May 13, before a tour of the UK and Ireland and trips to West Coast USA and mainland Europe. A compilation of covers of 'Gales songs by various fans/artists is also scheduled for release in 2015 or '16. Like the band's three preceding albums, Mind Over Matter was recorded in Germany at Hans-Joachim Irmler's Faust Studio and produced by the 'Gales bassist and Faust Studio house engineer Andreas Schmid.

"What if Can played Ghanaian highlife? What if Ennio Morricone had scored Spaghetti Westerns in a Moroccan souk? What if The Fall had garnished their rockabilly grooves with swing-era horns? King Champion Sounds recombine canonical influences in new contexts." --Stewart Lee, The Sunday Times, December 2013; King Champion Sounds deliver a blistering 10" album combining hypnotic Krautedelic/dub/minimalist electronica tunes with a sugarshit-sharp wordsmith in his element. Welcome to the surreal and slightly worrying world of Evil Blizzard. An assault on the ears and the eyes, their brutal onslaught of bludgeoning riffs has been making friends and enemies in equal measures throughout the country over the past 12 months. The debut album The Dangers of Evil Blizzard is released on John Robb's Louder Than War Records on CD and very limited edition pink vinyl (500 only for the world). Comprised of four bass guitars, with minimal vocals, keyboards, and samples, the band has drilled right into the void currently present in the UK music scene. With influences ranging from Hawkwind, dub reggae, Krautrock, and Black Sabbath, they have amassed a huge and dedicated following in a short space of time, playing with such varied acts as Bo Ningen, Conan, Ufomammut, and Gnod. Spotted at an early gig by Mark E. Smith, who promptly took the band on tour supporting The Fall, the band have spent the past year gathering phenomenal reviews for their incredible live shows which feature a myriad of masks, onstage brawls, offstage brawls, stage invasions, and audience participation. Their tribal and ritualistic performances are a B-movie theater of the absurd; a mix of bewilderment and celebration. The album was recorded live in one take at Sunshine Studios in Manchester by Andy Gibbon (who has worked with The Fall, amongst others). Recording it took five hours. Mixing it to emulate the chaos of them live took five months. Listed as "one of the top 20 bands to watch out for in 2013" on the hugely-influential web site Louder Than War, supremo John Robb was so impressed with the band, he set up the Louder Than War label to release the album, despite the band having several other label-offers.
