MAMIE 005EP
|
For its first compilation, Mamie's Records is proud to introduce Sai Yin Pun EP, focusing on the Hong Kong house activists with three tracks from Reba, Romain FX, and Sanpé. The history of Sai Ying Pun began long ago in the mid-19th century when the British military first landed and set up their camps in the area before the colonial era, which in turn boosted the development of the neighborhood; the name Sai Ying Pun literally means "western camps." The first track is a heavy hitter from Reba that takes a very UK/dancehall approach with dry drum machine sounds and a catchy repeated vocal throughout the track, a dance floor killer guaranteed. The second track is a jumping dance floor hit guaranteed with a more groovy house track from Romain FX, incorporating chops throughout with deep bass line breaks and dreamy house chords to get lifted into the air. And finally, to close off the EP, Sanpé has a very minimal gloomy approach, keeping the deep house vibes with subtle touches of raw goodness throughout.

Mamie's Records welcomes Playin' 4 The City for their second release. The deep and soulful house band run by Olivier Portal delivers a versatile and classy sound on Mighty EP. The A side fully illustrates the vibe and sound palette you can experience during their live shows, from gospel with Marilyn's voice on "Lord & Master" to summer with Slikk Tim's tight and funky bass play on "Time 4 Passion". B side goes "back to the roots" with the "Straight Up" sound, a deep house label Olivier ran at the end of the '90s -- "No Compromises" is a banger.
