"Dutch rock band Shocking Blue was at their peak in the '60s and '70s and gained major cross-Atlantic success. The band was founded in 1967 and is most known for their single 'Venus' (with which they became the first Dutch band ever to reach the first spot on the American Billboard Hot 100). The band had a series of subsequent hits and their influence reached well beyond their generation. Music On Vinyl proudly presents their legendary Scorpio's Dance album as a 2024 remastered edition from the original 1970 mix by Robbie van Leeuwen. It includes none less than four bonus tracks that were not featured on the original LP: 'Send Me A Postcard,' 'Mighty Joe,' 'Hello Darkness,' and 'Pickin' Tomatoes.' Scorpio's Dance (Remastered) is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on translucent red colored vinyl."

"Black, Gold & Green was the first of three albums Ken Boothe would record together with producer Lloyd Charmers and takes his Memphis-via-Kingston aesthetic to the next level. Some of the best soul singing of his career can be heard here on numbers such as 'Out of Love,' 'Missing You,' and the gritty ballad 'Second Chance.' His singing as being in the same kind of soul groove as the late and great Otis Redding. Ken's tradition, though, is based in the powerful religious messages reflected in the native Jamaican religion. Black, Gold & Green includes some serious social-political material, and these heavy tones permeate every note of this album. It also includes his great cover version of Bill Withers' 'Ain't No Sunshine.' Black, Gold & Green is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on orange colored vinyl."

"Cedar Walton was one of the most influential hard bop pianists and became well known as the pianist with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Bassist Ron Carter and drummer Jack DeJohnette both gained fame early in their careers for their associations with two different Miles Davis groups. This jazz album from 1984 was the only recording that these three jazz legends did together and was created on December 22-23 in 1983. The album is also known as The All American Trio. Cedar Walton / Ron Carter / Jack DeJohnette contains newly written liner-notes by jazz journalist/historian Scott Yanow."

"To celebrate the 45th anniversary of iconic Dutch jazz label Timeless Records, Music On Vinyl presents a series that features albums that are part of the Timeless Records legacy. To this day, jazz pianists are influenced by Bill Evans' use of impressionist harmony, interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, and his trademark rhythmically independent, 'singing' melodic lines. Evans gained his first spotlight when joining Miles Davis' sextet during the time Kind of Blue was recorded. After leaving the sextet, Evans began his career as bandleader. As trio with Marc Johnson on bass and Joe LaBarbera on drums, they recorded The Brilliant in 1980, just before Evans' passing."

"Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is the 2008 album by Lee 'Scratch' Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry), who was a Jamaican record producer, composer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and the use of studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing tracks. From his Black Ark Studio in Kingston Jamaica, he worked with and produced a wide variety of artists, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, Susan Cadogan, The Congos, and Max Romeo. Later, he moved to Switzerland and reinvented himself as a performance and visual artist but continued to produce innovative music -- collaborations include The Beastie Boys, The Clash, Keith Richards, George Clinton, and Adrian Sherwood. Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is the second in a series of three albums he made with English musician and producer Steve Marshall a.k.a. John Saxon. It features guest appearances by none other than George Clinton and Keith Richards. The 2LP Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on translucent green colored vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve."

"Deep Nyabinghi drumming and chanting on a version of the Ethiopian national anthem gets things underway on Slave Call, a majestic journey through the spiritual roots of reggae. Later songs add guitars, bass, keyboards, and horns to build a more standard reggae sound on that foundation, but there's always a dignified restraint and the profundity of the nyabinghi beat. the entire album revolves around Leonard Dillon's Rastafarian beliefs, with even the cover of the Beatles' 'Let It Be,' rewritten to a religious end. Slave Call is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange colored vinyl."

"Engine 54 is the debut studio album by The Ethiopians, who were one of Jamaica's best-loved harmony groups during the late ska, rocksteady and early reggae periods. Responsible for a significant number of hits between the mid-1960s and early 1970s, the group was also one of the first Jamaican acts to perform widely in Britain. Their debut album Engine 54 was originally released in 1968 and sounds far more rocksteady than ska, recorded with Tommy McCook and the Supersonics. Few if any other acts brought '60s soul and Jamaican rhythms together with such entrancing results. Engine 54 is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on gold colored vinyl."

"Naqoyqatsi is the third and final film in the Qatsi trilogy, meaning 'life as war.' About eighty percent of Naqoyqatsi uses archive footage and stock images manipulated and processed digitally on non-linear editing (workstations and intercut with specially produced computer-generated imagery to demonstrate society's transition from a natural environment to a technology-based one). Just like its predecessors Koyaanisqatsiand and Powaqqatsi, the music was composed by Philip Glass. Performed by members of the Philip Glass Ensemble, and featuring the amazing Yo-Yo Ma on cello, this completes the lengthy score which was begun for this film series with Koyaanisqatsi in 1982. The music is more in the traditional orchestral tradition than much of Glass's work as a familiar doorway to images so disconnected from the familiar world. One instrument, the cello, plays through much of the piece. Some unconventional instruments are used in addition to traditional ones, including a didgeridoo and an electronically created jaw harp. Naqoyqatsi is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on translucent red colored vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve and contains an eight-page booklet."

"First Utterance is the debut album of the progressive folk band Comus. It was released in 1971, with the opening song 'Diana' being released as a single. The album was notable for its unique blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, with elements of paganism and the macabre. The overall thematic tone of the album is of vulnerable innocence facing abusive power, the songs dealing with violence ('Drip Drip'), rape ('Diana,' 'Song to Comus'), and insulin shock therapy ('The Prisoner'). References to Comus by other bands and artists include Opeth, citing its lyrics in album and song titles. Experimental outfit Current 93 also covered 'Diana' as the opening song on their 1997 LP Horsey. The cover artwork was drawn in ball point pen by Roger Wootton, lead singer and songwriter of the band. The centerfold artwork was painted by guitarist Glenn Goring. First Utterance is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on crystal clear vinyl and includes an insert."

"Arguably the finest Jamaican soul singer of his generation, Ken Boothe burst onto the international stage when his sublime rendering of Bread's melancholic 'Everything I Own' topped the UK charts in the autumn of 1974. Within months of this success, the native-born Kingstonian returned to the national listings with the captivating 'Crying Over You', which made number 11 later that year. To coincide with the release of the latter, Trojan Records released the album, Everything I Own; a supremely soulful collection that featured his two international hits alongside a number of sublimely produced songs, cut in both Jamaica and the UK. Everything I Own is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on gold colored vinyl."

"The American bass guitarist and record producer Bill Laswell has been involved in thousands of recordings with many great artists, including Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Pharoah Sanders, and even produced the Miles Davis remix album Panthalassa. He draws his music from funk, world music, jazz, dub, and ambient styles. His 2001 album Divine Light features inspired 'reconstructions and mix translations' of tracks from Carlos Santana's first spiritual explorations. For this album, Laswell went for the two albums that were an explicit acknowledgement of Santana's love of John Coltrane, Illuminations (1974) and Love Devotion Surrender (1973). Divine Light (Reconstruction & Mix Translation By Bill Laswell) is available on vinyl for the very first time as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on yellow, red and black marbled vinyl. "Through his operas, his symphonies, his compositions for his own ensemble, and his wide-ranging collaborations with artists ranging from Twyla Tharp to Allen Ginsberg, Woody Allen to David Bowie, Philip Glass has had an extraordinary and unprecedented impact upon the musical and intellectual life of his times. The operas -- Einstein on the Beach, Satyagraha, and Akhnaten among many others -- play throughout the world's leading houses, and rarely to an empty seat. Glass has written music for experimental theater and for Academy Award-winning motion pictures. Glass is the first composer to win a wide, multi-generational audience in the opera house, the concert hall, the dance world, in film and in popular music - simultaneously. Much of his early work was based on the extended reiteration of brief, elegant melodic fragments that wove in and out of an aural tapestry. Or, to put it another way, it immersed a listener in a sort of sonic weather that twists, turns, surrounds, develops. In the past 30 years, Glass has composed more than twenty-five operas, large and small; twelve symphonies; three piano concertos and concertos for violin, piano, timpani, and saxophone quartet and orchestra; soundtracks to films ranging from new scores for the stylized classics of Jean Cocteau to Errol Morris's documentary about former defense secretary Robert McNamara; string quartets; a growing body of work for solo piano and organ. Essential is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on crystal clear vinyl. The 4LP is housed in a deluxe 10mm slipcase sleeve and includes a four-page booklet."

"Peter Green's fourth solo album Whatcha Gonna Do? was originally released in 1981. You can hear Green's natural affinity for R&B in both his fluid guitar and earthy vocals on some of the songs on this album. Like 'Trying to Hit My Head Against the Wall,' 'Like a Hot Tomato,' and 'Lost My Love' (the last of which, makes clear Green's overlooked love of sentimental '50s American R&B/proto soul). During the recordings, Green was accompanied by Fairport Convention-drummer Dave Mattacks.
