Musique Pour La Danse invites you to rock your body and free your brain with the third volume of Break The Limits. Break The Limits are Bay B Kane and Mister E, two East London underground pioneers who released pivotal and visionary EPs between 1990 and 1991. Together, they produced some of the most innovative music of the era, a blueprint for the emerging warehouse/hardcore/breakbeat scene in the UK. In the same way 1977 was a crucial year for punk's explosion, 1990 was a madly creative and truly revolutionary year for dance music, the essence of which is captured in these tracks. Picture this: a low ceiling sweating red brick basement somewhere at Marshgate Lane, where multicolored lasers, turbo soundsystem. and wacky dancers in ecstatic rush. DJs like Fabio, Bukem, or Matthew B would spin an evil blend of early hardcore and trippy NY house, with live PA set by up and coming acts like The Prodigy, Unique 3, or Satin Storm. This was universal unity, complete mayhem, and total freedom taking a country by storm, with a mutant groove that later became the grooves of all the grooves. Nearly 30 years later, it's still fresh. Produced in Satin Storm's studio (another pioneer), these have shades of deep house, techno bleeps, and rough breakbeat blended in an intuitive and innovative way.

The unforgettable soundtrack of a lost erotic new beat VHS from 1989. The year is 1989 and it's the peak of the new beat craze that swept Europe and the world with Belgium at its epicenter. Not limited to records and clubs, the new beat lifestyle was marketed to death with all sorts of fashion items, a plethora of accessories and... erotic videos. Erotica, sensuality, and sexuality have always been part of new beat's DNA, but Musique Pour La Danse's jaw dropped to the floor when the label first laid eyes upon an erotic new beat VHS deadstock gathering dust in a forgotten video store in the middle of nowhere in Switzerland. So the label did what every new beat fan would have done, they watched the video and cringed (at its low budget production values and tacky male gaze) while they were transported to 1989 Belgium, with the bodies, poses, styles, and backdrops you'd expect from that bygone era. Their ears, however, were in for a treat. The video's OST uses almost the very same track list as one of the countless new beat compilations marketed as LPs: King of the Beat, instantly recognizable among many for its yellow front cover featuring a stamp with King Baudoin's profile. That record was actually a fake compilation seemingly gathering several artists but in fact entirely composed by the same trio. It offers a lovely snapshot of various moods and styles found within the new beat genre: downright erotic tracks, proto-Goa numbers, orientalist takes on exotic sounds, tracks driven by iconic film samples, and tracks built around silly samples, such as an elephant's trumpet. And then some. That's when Musique Pour La Danse decided to reissue this compilation. While many new beat tracks have been played and compiled to death, there are still brilliant records to rescue from oblivion, and this is one of them. Remastered from original tapes in 2020 with liner notes by Geert "Dr Vinyl" Sermon. The utterly tacky front cover is a detail from the VHS original artwork. Features Iconoclass, Corruption House, Axidan, Ugly Mood, Corruption House, and Acid Aliens. Neon pink vinyl.

Musique Pour La Danse release Collected Ambient Grooves 1993-2001, an anthology of music created by Osamu Sato, the Kyoto-born, Tokyo-based digital artist, photographer, and composer whose career began in the early '80s. In 1983, he released a cassette accompanied by silkscreen prints on Kaoru Sato's (EP-4, Vanity Records) sought-after Skating Pears label. He gained worldwide notoriety after creating cult video games Eastern Mind for Mac OS and LSD Dream Emulator for Sony Playstation, and composing groundbreaking soundtracks for both. This latter game, quite unlike anything before or after is often praised as a masterpiece that started a new era in the gaming community. "Osamu Sato remains one of the most sought-after and intriguing personalities in the world of cult gaming, a spirit that haunts those who hunt the surreal and those who clamor for more like he produced in the past" as VICE once put it. The previously unreleased and exclusive music gathered on this release explores the interzone between ambiance and a certain sense of groove and motion. Emotional melodies, deep and mystical moods, psychedelic progressions, along with electronic and organic instruments with Eastern influences are masterfully used by the composer to create tracks where the listener is always offered with a variety of layers to admire or get lost in. Some tracks fit more in the ambient category, while others are of a groovier persuasion but in reality, each track displays in its specific way a meticulous balance between both. A timeless collection of artful music that exists in a genre of its own, with cover and design created by Osamu Sato himself, this is a total work of art created by the artist who celebrates his 60th birthday in 2020. LP version comes on blue color vinyl.

As the title subtly suggest, this has to be played loud! In recent days, the title tune (that FX mix) has been played recently by the usual suspects. A classic and strong 12" by Orlando Voorn under his Baruka moniker focusing on twisted funky Detroit techno sound with his special signature. A colorful release, first issued in 1994 and remastered for the 21st century.

Musique Pour La Danse present Coil's unreleased soundtrack for the VHS only, pre-internet, sexual education documentary entitled The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex released in 1992. Members for this project were John Balance, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, and Danny Hyde. The OST, to quote John Balance's interview for Compulsion Online, "is [a] slightly new age-y, progressive house type thing". Another way to approach it is as a delightful collection of Balearic beats, smoking jazz not far removed from Badalamenti's work with David Lynch, somewhat of an ambient house album for your home listening and early morning sunrise dances, Coil style. Taken from the original masters provided by Danny Hyde, The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex features a new sexy edit of the main theme. Bonus tracks "Nasa-Arab" and "Omlagus Garfungiloops" are taken from the 1992 CD-only release Stolen And Contaminated Songs, both being original versions of the radically reworked (for the OST) "Nasa-Arab 2" and "Exploding Frogs" in order to balance the whole album and extend the listening pleasure.

Side A is a reissue of the highly sought-after Disdain EP from 1988 by White House White. While it's the most straightforward new beat/EBM section of Musique Pour La Danse's collections, Dirk Desaever's sense of dramaturgy, his sound design, rhythmic patterns, and use of film samples create a dark and mysterious ambiance at odds with the smiley atmosphere prevalent in most contemporary new beat productions. On Side B, three previously unreleased tracks in a similar spirit to WHW's sound with a dark and sleazy atmosphere, elegant arrangements.

Musique Pour La Danse presents its latest Collected anthology, the label's most ambitious release since an anthology of music by New Beat pioneer Ro Maron (MPD 001CD/LP, 2016). Label managers Olivier Ducret and Ed Isar have focused on another essential Belgian producer: Dirk Desaever, the man behind White House White, A Thunder Orchestra, and Danton's Voice. Some of his productions under these aliases have appeared in compilations such The Sound of Belgium (LMFLF 193CD, 2014), along with edits by Mick Wills and Marcel Dettman. What was initially supposed to be a simple reissue soon turned into a wider project, as Desaever shared heaps of amazing unreleased material. It seemed more interesting to shed light on the dark side of this producer's body of work, rather than to focus on content already reissued elsewhere. After listening to noisy tape rips over and over, Ducret and Isar opted to break this release into three formats, each with different content. They entrusted engineer Lorenzo Targhetta with remastering the music; it's impressive how much he managed to polish the sound without altering the unmistakable grain of music committed to cassette tape. All the music on this LP has never been heard before, except for a single tune released on a rare 7". The track selection and sequence is the result of Ducret & Isar closely listening to the many hours of material. The record can be approached as an imaginary album or even the soundtrack of a lost film or TV show. The idea was to tell a story about Desaever's music by highlighting its themes and variations. While some tunes can be imagined within a New Beat context, it's clear they were not created with clubs in mind. In fact, most of the material here is actually closer to minimal wave, synth wave and dark wave. With a certain gothic melancholia as the common thread running through the record, some tracks can only be described as lo-fi library music with a strong medieval reminiscence, others are closer to the wave aesthetic; a few could even be considered ambient. Desaever's house holds many rooms, each different from the other. After completing a grand tour of the mansion and seeing the bigger picture, it will become clear for listeners how truly unique this producer sounds, even compared with other Belgians from the '80s. Saved from oblivion and irremediable decay, the music on this LP is waiting to be played and listened as well as to inspire.

Musique Pour La Danse presents a double LP reissue of The Purple Universe, originally released in 1993 by Swiss duo Synectics (Marco Repetto and Stefan Riesen) on legendary braindance label Rephlex. Run by Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge, this early release is one of Rephlex's best-kept secrets. The year is 1992. Electronic music is experiencing a golden age of sorts. Equipment, inspiration, people, and music are less and less tied to specific places and scenes. Repetto is driving in Bern, the car stereo locked on Radio Couleur 3. The Young Gods are being interviewed, and the pioneering Swiss industrial band mentions the word "psychedelic" enough times for the driver to take heed. Inspired by a magical performance by the same band, he decides to experiment by injecting a dose of psychedelia into his productions. The result is "The Final Moment", a 24-minute trip which began as a club track before turning into an ambient and yes, psychedelic tune, reminiscent of progressive rock forays but entirely synthetic. Repetto then meets Riesen, and the pair produce more tracks in the same vein. Some are resolutely geared towards the dance floor; others would not be out of place in a chill-out context. Demos are sent to labels with "The Final Moment" accidentally included in the package. Rephlex was enthused with all tracks on the release but was especially impressed by "The Final Moment" and released The Purple Universe soon after. This album is of course neither the first nor the only one to blend electronic music and psychedelia. However, its sincerity and candid approach are immensely touching, a reminder of the sort of naiveté and creativity prevalent in the pre-Internet era. It is ironic that a Swiss duo can be credited in part with writing the template for post-Detroit British techno, proto-IDM and braindance. But, it is not surprising either that this record was originally released by Rephlex, a very logical decision in hindsight. The Purple Universe is a versatile album, with a few club-ready bangers full of emotion, some more experimental cuts that feel both introspective and forward-thinking as well as "The Final Moment", a universe in itself and a masterpiece of sorts, an important artifact of a time where it became more and more obvious that electronic music and dance music did not have to be safe, straightforward or tame. Includes three tracks from original CD version, never available on vinyl before.
