Tobias Freund, the Berlin based producer, musician, and label owner of Non Standard Productions has created an incredible cover record that pays tribute to some of the most iconic and influential artists of the past four decades. The album Tobias. & Friends' Top Ten places a unique spin on the original tracks, with its combination of electronic sounds and vocal performances from Javiera González, Barbie Williams, Cormac McAdam, Carlos Cabezas, and Stian Westerhus. Having already worked with Javiera González on the recent post punk album release The Mutual Torture's Don't (NSP 019LP, 2022), Tobias has once again used his talents to honor some of his favorite bands. Each track has been carefully re-produced at Non Standard Studios in Berlin, resulting in a perfectly balanced mix of old and new. Highlights from the record include "Used To" by Wire, "All We Ever Wanted" by Bauhaus, and "Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy" by DEVO. The tracks range from the upbeat, '80s-inspired "Pure Jam" by Yellow Magic Orchestra to the more somber "My Sex" by Ultravox. Tobias has given us a thoughtful, creative, and enjoyable record that is sure to please any fan of these bands. All in all, this is an exceptional release, a masterful blend of past and present, and a perfect tribute to some of the greatest musical acts of our time.

The Mutual Torture pay homage to many of their music heroes from the early '80s. Consequently, their modus operandi is deeply rooted in post punk paranoia, alien soundtracks, improvisation, and simulation. Their outcome is coolness that's glowing cold under the red sun, structure and order, and 12 transcendental messages. In the end, there are no more heroes left but just The Mutual Torture. This band of non-standard humans appears with a conceptual approach to transforming the energy and the boldness of a genre which is known for its pioneering spirit, overwhelming playfulness and a strong desire to experiment. The Mutual Torture are soulmates of those who formed this genre: a German-Chilean band with an attitude and a plan to tour their album live. In particular: Tobias Freund (drum computers and electronics), André Schöne (bass), and Javiera González (vibrantly morphing vocals). All tracks have been written and produced by Tobias Freund at Non Standard Studios, 2021.

After seven years, the second release of Max Loderbauer on Non Standard Productions arrives again in his style of post-German-electronic-avant garde. Donnerwetter is the perfect blue print of modern reduced electronic adventures. Carefully chosen out of a pool of recordings produced by Max in the last years, slightly edited and arranged into a full-length album.

Tobias. on Studios Works 1986-1988: "In 1985, I started working as a sound engineer in the famed Far Studios of German hit producer legend Frank Farian in Rosbach near Frankfurt, and there had an array of gear at my disposal that not many producers could afford, and know how to use in consequence. In the center a high-end Neve studio desk, but also the finest machines created by mythic brands like Linn, Kurzweil, Publison, or Quantec. Confronted with this considerable amount of opportunities on a daily basis, I soon decided to use what I was surrounded with for my own musical ideas, and started experimenting with it in my spare time. My perception of sounds quickly surpassed what I had known before. The equipment offered me many possibilities to position sounds within a song and I learnt how to compose by filling up all the places in between the speakers. There was not only left and right but near and far as well, and even up and down. My preferred perspective grew to be that of standing in front of the speakers, 'looking down' on a song from a slightly higher position. The material was recorded on analogue reel-to-reel audiotape, which I subsequently edited and deconstructed manually with a razor blade, an edit block and a roll of audio splicing tape." Second album of archival material, never released before.

"A decade has passed since Tobias Freund and Max Loderbauer, aka Non Standard Institute (NSI.), released their enigmatic collection of 'non-standards' (2007). Playing with mystery is the name of the game here as well. The new CD, entitled with the code 5863, is the result of collecting creative moments over years and stringing together twenty short pieces that jointly amount to almost an hour of playtime. Meditative, reflective, introspective, but also occasionally exhilarated... All these descriptions come to mind. But there's more to the story line which emerges in patient increments as the album unfolds. Music comes mostly in the form of sparse but evocative piano improvisations, layering personal expression and subtle references anchored within the depth of the musicians' experience. As the cryptic title suggests, the scope of examined experience can be symbolized through dates or years. But what counts for much more here is the sonic narrative itself with all its openness to interpretation. Some of these concise tracks can swiftly transport the listener to iconic harmonies of other musical contexts as they seamlessly relink the piano avant-gardism of Erik Satie with echoes of modern psychedelia and futuristic soundtracks. As a whole, however, the minimal instrumentalism of NSI. is as much about the notes and emotions that punctuate the electronic soundscapes generated by Tobias's unerring use of studio as it is about the space created between them. This method brings to mind the Japanese concept of 'Ma' which emphasizes the fundamental meaning of interval or space for any structure. It is the in-between that matters. The non-being. The non-standard." --Dominik Bartmanski, Berlin, February 2018

Recent Arts is a duo formed by Chilean visual artist Valentina Berthelon and German musician Tobias Freund. Together they present live audio-visual shows ranging from experimental improvisations to works that are more aligned with the global electronic music club scene. Recent Arts manipulate sound and image in real time during their stage shows. The music is created and performed by means of an application based on Max/MSP. This application was developed by Max Loderbauer and Tom Thiel, and finalized based on ideas by Tobias Freund. It is a "Loop Based Computer Controlled Engine" that repeats and processes sounds in a free and natural way -- which feels like listening to the flowing water of a creek, or to the sound of the wind. Repetitions are constantly being modulated, and no patterns are the same. In addition, the musical structure is combined with a full range of analog synthesis to achieve a wide spectrum of frequencies.
